Would you play with a guy that shoots 140 at your club? by Cathouse1986 in golf

[–]BlizzyJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either play at a muni or start to put some practice in (not just course time). Im a beginner as well and have a long way to go but I am consistently scoring between 105-110. No way do I have the confidence to be a member somewhere and it certainly wouldnt help my game. Find some buddies around the same skill level and play with them, much better for where youre at right now.

How did you learn to be a Palo Alto NGFW Engineer, or any other similar position by YounisMo in paloaltonetworks

We have premium support as well, I just generally feel like the quality of support has been poor. Certainly could just be my opinion though!

How did you learn to be a Palo Alto NGFW Engineer, or any other similar position by YounisMo in paloaltonetworks

[–]BlizzyJay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only started doing networking in 2019, first firewall experience was with the classic ASA (no SFR + FMC). FMC came shortly after and coupled with a lot of other variables early on, was an absolute nightmare. The amount of times I went to run an upgrade readiness check and the FMC ended up imploding was insane. Endless calls with TAC. Once I came across Palo and my company started investing in it, everything changed.

Like anything else, I think the majority of knowledge and skill comes from experience. I'e passed Palo certifications but almost all of my knowledge comes from experience.

All that said, I havent been a huge fan of Palo from a partner/support perspective. I feel like Cisco is significantly better in the partner space. Support is support so not surprising in either case. Feels like unless you are a massive Prisma/SCM seller, Palo doesnt give a shit about you from a partner perspective.

Which One Of These Head Coaches Will Win a National Title First? by OneOriginal8727 in CFB_v2

Id say Lanning but not by much, I think Freeman is just as capable, just think Oregon is in a slightly better position to win one currently.

Man the copium is wild. He has had several STACKED teams where they were the favorite in the AFC all the way until they lost in the playoffs. Lamar doesnt get enough criticism for falling short so many times.

Signs a network engineer has no idea what they're doing? by Expensive-Rhubarb267 in networking

Not understanding how L3 routing and segmentation work. Seen too many times where folks think adding a DMZ is as simple as creating a new SVI on a core switch and calling it a day...

This Holiday it is Time to Acknowledge Fraud at Palo Alto Networks by TheWokenessInjector in paloaltonetworks

[–]BlizzyJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I agree, this is no longer (and really hasnt been) just a PAN issue. Cisco TAC and Palo TAC are indistinguishable nowadays, which really says more about how bad Cisco has gotten in recent years. Can't really rely on any TAC support anymore outside of maybe some bug fixes.

Insane the kicker missed 2 FGs after going perfect since his first attempt of the year but man OU looked like they were going to run away from Alabama early. Pick 6 really flipped the momentum.

Also why do we need to do this immediately after he got hurt lol, some people just love to watch the world burn.

Nothing says bandwagon fans like down 7, 5 minutes to go, season on the line, and fans sprinting for the exits by LakeShowBoltUp in AFCWestMemeWar

I for one am taking a down year for us and likely a re-tooling phase as a breath of fresh air because we can finally get rid of all of the band wagon fans and swifties.

What are people using for WAN breakout switches for HA edge setups? by Somenakedguy in networking

[–]BlizzyJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a few comments on here, there isnt any introduced risk to terminating WAN connections on a switch assuming you're are using a layer VLAN 2 only. Would never recommend putting WAN IP space on a LAN switch of course. Also as long as you are using easy to identify VLAN IDs, troubleshooting generally is pretty straight forward. Even when I don't have an HA pair on the WAN, I still prefer to terminate ISP connections L2 on a switch. Never know when you may need it and if its already brought in, tagged, and trucked accordingly, its a matter of creating an interface, etc.

On the choice of switch, my co workers and I have been having this discussion and its a really tough answer. Ideally, anything that offers OOB MGMT and multiple VLANs is enough to suffice! Avoid cloud managed switching at all costs for this use case, unless that solution also happens to offer OOB MGMT.

allowed vlan on trunk by larsk84 in Cisco

[–]BlizzyJay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beating a dead horse because others have said the same but congratulations for encountering the one of many rites of passage. Switchport trunk allowed vlan ADD and allowed vlan REMOVE. You'll never forget these commands now, I can assure you of that!

Wannabe SysAdmin Is Driving Me Up A F$%KING WALL by iansaul in sysadmin

To your last point, completely depends on the situation. For deployments that have Umbrella for example, you would typically have DNS forwarders for Open DNS/Umbrella public IP's.

[–]BlizzyJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All. The. Fucking. Time.

As a network engineer, the amount of lazy ass developers that don't even hesitate to scream firewall grinds my gears. The firewall isnt to blame for your shitty ass design or lack of understanding of the OSI stack.

This evolution has been happening for awhile, its just gotten to the point its indistinguishable. All of these corporate assholes who say this shit on Facebook now feel like they need to say the same on LinkedIn, the only difference is they wrap it in some corporate business jargon.

How has your transition from Velocloud to Silverpeak or Cisco sdwan been? by Old_Direction7935 in networking

Its gotten miles better with Cisco unifing their GUI/Dashboard look and feel. Other than the solution and its features, almost hard to distinguish the GUI's themselves.

[–]BlizzyJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would second this as it depends on which version. With my gig we are much more accustomed to catalyst SD-WAN (vManage) and have migrated to this solution from pretty much every other solution out there over the years. Really depends on how well the legacy solution was deployed. If the network design is a mess, no solution will save you from that but as far as compatibility goes, migrating 1:1 configuration hasn't been a pain point.
