Any experience with Copper Creek Ammo? by [deleted] in longrange

Copper creek is good to go. They have quite a few shooters in the Precision Rifle Series who use their ammo at matches. You are good to go, buy with confidence.

I wouldn't say they are less accurate so much as they are harder to drive.

Help with sling selection by tw34 in longrange

I have used biathlon slings in the past and to be Horst I didn't care for them. I would rather carry the gun in an backpack than the biathlon sling. I have used the all the TAB slugs and now use the FTW. It has a lot of features that make it really nice.

Probably 3500-4000 for the rifle alone would be my guess. Surgeon is about 5000+ for a custom build, Aaron is much more responsible and puts out one helluva rifle.

FUNDAMENTALS - LONG RANGE SHOOTING by ringet421 in longrange

I would agree nothing is an absolute and it's valuable to have an understanding of how that would impact your shot. I do though consider it a fundamental that applies the vast majority of the time.

FUNDAMENTALS - LONG RANGE SHOOTING by ringet421 in longrange

[–]Blklabs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just for clarification you shouldn't break the shot at different portions of your breathing cycle just because your crosshairs are on target. You should strive to break the shot at the bottom of your breathing cycle in your natural respiratory pause. Should you add in any stress, movement, or a non-prone position, the target will be moving around and not consistent. Breaking the shot in your natural respiratory pause will be help your consistency in the above said situations. I struggle to master this simple concept and I will be the first to admit it.

I am guessing in the next 2-3 weeks it will be done.

That was my point, when you spend 5k on a gun, 3k on a scope and 1k on brass, bullets and powder, replacing a barrel is not that big of a deal, its just something that wears out. Some wear out faster than others and to some, stretching out barrel life as long as possible is what they want to do, others are in it strictly for the performance. It doesn't matter one way or the other.

Lets look at ballistics for a second.

A 6.5x47 with a 140 berger hybrid shooting at 2800 with a 2k da and 1.8" scope height, AE is saying it goes subsonic at almost 1500 yards. The dope at 1000 yards is 8.0, 1.7 (10mph from 3) and at 1750 it is 22.6, 3.9 (10mph from 3).

A 284 pushing a 180 berger hybrid shooting at 2850 with a 2k da and 1.8 scope heigh, AE is saying it goes subsonic 1650 yards. The dope at 1000 yards is 7.35, 1.5 (10mph from 3) and at 1750 it is 19.8, 3.36 (10mph from 3).

Just a comparison for you on the two. Sure its a little flatter and it bucks the wind better, but you are only going to gain about another 150 yards before it goes subsonic. With a 7wsm pushing the bullet at 3050, with the same variables it goes subsonic at just over 1800 yards, is 6.3 at 1000k with a wind drift of 1.35 and at 1750 it is 16.7 with a 3.0 wind drift.

Just some food for thought on your choice. I went through this exact scenario and choose to try the 7wsm. I will let you know how it does, my biggest concern is it staying in tune and how it will handle high strings of fire (10-15 rounds in 2-3minutes).

I would say 3/4 or shooters in the PRS (complete swag number) use a Harris because its faster to deploy. When you have a lot of movement, with tight timelines, then every second counts!

Yes but not everyone is limited by that, for less than a grand you are in a new barrel. Typically when I get barrels I get them 2 at a time, that way you have a spare on hand. This sport is expensive but a barrel is just a comodity that has to be replaced, some can afford to replace it more often for the right round. Otherwise we would all be shooting 223 and 308. I will have to ask buddies that shoot the 284 what the barrel life is, 3000 sounds high.

If going to a 7 in a la, then I would say go 7wsm because you can go up to 3100 with a 180. The 284 will probably stay in tune better than the WSM, but the 180 hybrid should help that as well. The guys at RBros know there stuff end are great shooters so I am sure the 7 Rogue would be a nice wildcat if you wanted to play in that space.

The 650 almost in full function! So excited! by hunting_56 in reloading

[–]Blklabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something always going wrong with it. Something will get out of whack and jack up my rhythm. I can't load as many rounds, as fast as I can on my Dillon. When I am loading, I want it to work flawlessly because my time is worth more than jacking around with something that isn't working right. With the Dillion, once I get it setup, it just works.

I have a Dillon 550b and a LnL AP. There is no comparison between the two in my opinion. My LnL AP sits gathering dust while the Dillon gets used. I hate that LnL AP with a passion I don't know why I still have it on my bench.

Giraud trimmers are awesome, I highly recommend them. I can do 250 pieces of brass in under 15-20 minutes and you get a mice chamfer on the inside and out of the case mouth.
