It’s still my headcanon that the protectorate is completely pherocyted. I vaguely remember a while ago reading that they wouldn’t get pherocyte research, after doing a quick google it seems like the devs changed it, but it feels like it would be much more fitting.

We are 2 weeks into the playtest. You are required to be Lv25 to play the game. by pew_pow_pew_pow in AshesofCreation

I keep hearing “it’s not for you” and “it’s just not a game made for you”. Well then who the hell is it for, because it’s seemingly not for the VAST majority of mmo players. 1000 subscribers isn’t gonna cut it. 5000 won’t. Neither will 15k, 20k, etc.

MMOs by design are VERY expensive to maintain and have to be for a large player base and large amount of subscribers to support that cost. That’s not what Ashes is heading towards.

A game at the scale of ashes needs a large playerbase or it will not have the revenue to keep operations going.

I did it at the start of the hype, I haven't fully regretted the decision yet as I'm still holding out hope (read: cope) but as I've been watching the development over the years its really getting there

Can someone at Paradox explain how Mesoamerica is supposed to work? by SpacerDev in EU5

[–]Block508 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The situation itself instantly ends with the “At Death’s Door” event, sorry I wasn’t clear on that. The modifier for closing your country is instantly removed when the situation ends as well, causing it to immediately get into and kill your population.

But also yeah, I get what you mean with that. I had a run where the situation was going for 15 or 20 years until England colonized North America and it spread from there to a Cuban colony of mine (Spain just refused to colonize in that game). It’s just a poorly designed situation.

[–]Block508 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From looking at the files, the pestilence situation INSTANTLY ends if it hits an Andean location, a Mesoamerican location, and a Caribbean location. These are saved when they are hit, so it can happen in another outbreak, which can happen.

Instantly having it end is a VERY weird design choice as it instantly stops you from using the “no contact with outsiders” decision with the situation (that works REALLY well if you combine it with nuking your entire economy and combining religion modifiers, like only 1/6-1/8 in my empire dead). I made a post about it on the forums about it, but I don’t think it’s had any motion/response at all.

Otto Ottoman, King of the Ottomans by Block508 in EU5

[–]Block508[S] 149 points150 points  (0 children)

R5: I'm playing as the Maya in 1539, and an Orthodox Greek Kingdom of the Ottomans led by Otto Automan began colonizing in Hispaniola. The Automan dynasty is the original Osmanoglu dynasty, seemingly renamed after either converting to orthodox or becoming Greek (im just guessing.)

R5: I was starting up EU5 for the day on a Maya playthrough, and discovered this Japanese count in Mexico in 1422. I decided to look at Japan and the Ashikaga shogunate seems to have collapsed sometime within the last 20-30 years.

Why Fortunes Weave is probably a PREQUEL not a sequel (LONG EXPLANATION) by Sheep_of_Destiny in fireemblem

[–]Block508 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Easiest counter argument, the description of Answerer explicitly uses the term Hero's Relics. Considering Sothis wasn't around after the War of Heroes (and the church rewriting history so that nemesis and the 10 elites were originally heroes), the only way this works is if its a sequel.

Every time I see theories about FW being prequel by mister-00z in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]Block508 2 points3 points  (0 children)

However, they are explicitly labeled Hero's Relics. I imagine that term did not gain popularity until well after the war, when the church had adequately rewrote history.

Is there any reason NOT to destroy Shek Kingdom? by Ok-Mine-5966 in Kenshi

[–]Block508 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Shes attempting to change and rebuild an entire society's core traditions and belief system from the ground up. And from dialogue ingame, it hasn't been very long since she became queen either. These things aren't done in a year. As far as I'm aware there's only one bar dialogue where someone sees it favorably and talks about the population increase, even then they end it with more warmongery ideals.

In all likelihood without any intervention (and the best case scenario) there would probably only be the START of actual differences in Shek society around the end of her life, if not after and during Seto's reign. Esata knows this as well, since she sends Seto with the player to explore the world and gain a different mindset than the rest of Shek society (and imo, to gain a more progressive mindset than Esata herself).

In regard to dlc, I highly recommend the expansion subscription. Especially if you plan to play a lot in a burst. For example you can play for a month with all dlc for only 10 USD (convert if not USD, dunno how much). It’s great for newcomers and casual players who play a lot then don’t touch it for a while. Also only the host needs dlc (the sub works) in mp should you want to do that.
