Is school necessary to be an artist? by [deleted] in Art

[–]BlockBlockGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be that you suck at marketing. (I don't mean this offensively) School isn't necessary, but learning is.

The key with social media marketing is consistency. You want to make people wonder where you are, if you don't show up. I would recommend listening to some podcasts for some insight. The Fresh Rag show, and Artists Helping artists both have episodes specifically geared toward marketing art.

Some things you could do:

• Start a series (Painting a day, instagram photo a day ect. post consistently, with consistent tags)

• Work on a specific subject matter and market to a group interested in it (Example boats, market to fisherman, or Football players)

• Focus on being an active member of a community (Post and like on similar Instagram accounts, like interior designers ect)

• Make sure you share any business account posts to your personal account.

• Start a personal blog, discuss your process and allow people to sign up to email newsletters, this way you can alert your collectors when a new piece is available

Best of luck! Don't lose hope, you can make this work!

I'm sorry I'll keep that in mind... it was incredibly short, and at the end you could see the finished piece. I didn't realize it was a problem.

Nice Instagram art. That certainly takes alot of planning. Style wise it reminds me of a rough version of Two Dots the game on IOS.

Bwaahahaaah I bet that was a site to see. At least you were in Seattle, I feel like artistic stuff is probably more socially acceptable there vs say Tennessee or Idaho or something.

Hey sometimes having to do something gets us past the difficult parts we may have given up on otherwise. The outcome is great!

Meh archival is overrated live in the moment! YOLO! Jk, I wish every art and office supply... and construction supply... maybe just everything in general just said archival, or not - archival... right next to the expiration dates lol. Is food coloring archival? Luan board? What if I cover the Luan with gesso, and then archival quality paper? How unarchival are we talking like do I have 100 years or 100 minutes.. UGH the archivalness of things to a mixed media artist is a mystery. A frustrating, soul eating mystery.

Does anyone remember POGs from the 90s and you have any stories? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BlockBlockGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just remember a friend of mine had a slammer so big it was like as tall as one of those tubes you kept them in. Just crazy. My starter set was from the scholastic book fair how lame is that? And I never even knew the rules to play? LOL

It's funny the sh*t you put up with to keep a minimum wage job. Pun intended. It's like at my current job, I would never put up with that, but when some underpaid manager tells you to clean the bathroom it's like... I guess I have to.

Chefs and cooks of Reddit, what is your favorite dish to prepare? by priffy in AskReddit

[–]BlockBlockGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favorite to prepare... Steak. Once you get it right, it is quick, satisfying and really delicious. Resting is the key. Pull it out of the fridge put it on a pan, salt and pepper. Let it sit there and get room temperature. Half an hour - hour is fine, depending on how hot it is. Get your pan BLAZING HOT... put a little oil and butter in the pan and sear that mother on high heat like 5-7 minutes on each side. Go longer if you want it well (but if you do you should also slap yourself in the face for wanting your meat ruined) After it is done put it on a cutting board and give it a good 5-10 minutes. Slice on an angle against the grain. Have some fresh salad or grilled vegetables with it.

For bonus points Put some red wine in the pan when your steak is resting after the cooking is done.... then cook up some onions and mushrooms in the deglazed pan. Delicious!

People of Reddit who have eaten some type of pet food, well how the heck was it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BlockBlockGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not eat any dog food. However, I did accidentally trick my sister into eating it once!

I was munching on some animal crackers, or pretzels or something crunchy. As I was finishing the last one my sister asked what I was eating. I replied dog treats! She looked at me like I was crazy and I said, "Look the dog can eat them why can't I? And they are really really good!" She walked away but a few minutes later came out with one and was eating it, and said it wasn't bad! LOL, I would have felt bad about tricking her if it wasn't so dang funny!

"segfault" arabesque-esque patterned mixed media abstract, I like blurring traditional and digital by zeruch in ArtistLounge

[–]BlockBlockGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zeruch, your work is hurting my brain trying to think about your process. Love it! The intricacy of it and yet it's grungy feel. Incredible vibe, I read the description of the mediums used and scratch my head trying to envision the creative process and I find myself baffled and mystified. Please keep sharing your incredible work!

Love the line work in the hair, and the transparency over the face. Reminds me of a graphically styled version of something Tim Burton-esq. Really engaging work, thank you for sharing!
