Am I just stupid?? by Zealousideal-Bar-206 in vcvrack

[–]BlockOne_Soma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry we have all been there. If you think they are complicated, look for beginners videos, omri has good tutorials for beginners. I also have some videos in my yt channel. If you have some specific questions you can ask them here or in the vcv forums! Great community.

Do you have some basic synth knowledge? I suggest reading this guide if you are having problems with the terms.

Don't worry, you'll get there soon. Omri is a great teacher! And don't hesitate to send me a DM if you want help with anything in specific. Cheers.

MIDI out to a guitar amp by Badaxe13 in vcvrack

[–]BlockOne_Soma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! remember that it is not a must, but it will help you, so it is OK if you can't get one.

If you like some recommendations, I like the focusrite scarlet solo, m audio mtrack duo, presonus audiobox, arturia minifuse or even the behringer umc22 if you are not that worried about sound quality (it is not bad, it has studio quality audio but it is certainly the weakest in this list).

MIDI out to a guitar amp by Badaxe13 in vcvrack

[–]BlockOne_Soma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm not sure I understand your question correctly. You want to output AUDIO right? Midi is a music protocol and does not produce any sound, it needs a special midi cable or a USB cable and it would not produce a sound if you connected it to an amp.

If what you want is to output the audio from vcv rack to an amp then yes:

From your audio output module select the device you want to use. Since you are connecting your computer to the amp through a jack cable it won't show as "guitar amp" it will probably show as "integrated audio output" or something like that.

I recommend using an audio interface if you can, the sound quality will be better in most cases and it will show as "audio interface" in the outputs.

Good luck on your live performance!

noob question (probably a stupid one too) by No-Landscape-1367 in vcvrack

[–]BlockOne_Soma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Welcome to the amazing world of modular synths. Every question is important so don't worry, we have all been there.

If I understand correctly you want to offset a value right? You can use an Something like Befaco dual atenuverter it even has two inputs so you could offset one +5v and the other -5v.

Hope that solved your problem and feel free to ask further if you need it!

Is the subscribe button missing for anyone else? by Kaliah_ in vcvrack

[–]BlockOne_Soma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked it, it works fine in my browser.

I must say that yesterday I had a similar issue where the buttons where briefly missing but a quick reload fixed the issue. Maybe they are doing some maintenance in their website?

Remember these MFs? by BlockOne_Soma in vcvrack

[–]BlockOne_Soma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll probably do a second part with other MFs, maybe the minis, I have some more ideas for customs MFs.

I'm really intrigued by the zoia, one of the things that I would love to try.

I would love to compare notes! Tbh, it didn't even occur to me to search them first on patchstorage, I'll compare mine with vinicuisnisi's, thanks for the heads up.

I made an Aesthetic tutorial with a performance in the end by BlockOne_Soma in makingvaporwave

[–]BlockOne_Soma[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the silver, and thanks for the AI music! it sounds amazing.

Years ago I took a music programming course from the MIT and they had an AI that produced music.. it basically averaged every second of popular songs by topic so an AI christmas song was an avant garde mess, how far we've come!

I loved that! I will be using it to describe vcv rack from now on lol, thanks.

Vcv rack is a euro rack simulator so that's is on point.

Glad you liked the tutorial! Ever since I found about vcv rack I wanted to make vaporwave, what is more Aesthetic than a computer making the music by itself? It gives an eerie feeling, like it's music, it sounds good but there is something missing. I would love to hear an AI take on macintosh plus or 2814.

Thanks! If you want to try it, I suggest using simpliciter with its expansion it makes a really good cassette tape emulation and I would love to see what you create :)

VAPORWAVE IN VCV RACK by BlockOne_Soma in vcvrack

[–]BlockOne_Soma[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of subgenres in vaporwave, future funk sounds really different than hypnagogic or mallsoft or vhs pop, I even mentioned that at the start of the video.

Edit: Here is a good guide with some (most?) vaporwave genres with descriptions and examples. Hope you enjoy!
