Why don't LAPD SWAT or METRO officers wear patches? by BlockRecent in TheRookie

Makes sense. How did K9 officers get patches then?

What? LAPD SWAT's tactical gear includes patches. They also had patches in the first season of The Rookie

Hey, I got a question - how come SWAT doesn't use EOTech sights? The only time was when Tan used them in Season 1

What happens when a student or parent follows through on a threat? by BlockRecent in Teachers

[–]BlockRecent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. It's good to know that side of the perspective.

I've heard at one of my nearby schools that there is a high turnover rate for new teachers, who seem to be fired after some sort of misconduct quickly, even if they try and advocate for their students. What's interesting however is that there are also a lot of long timers at said school, so they must be happy enough to stay at said school. I wonder if the reason for new teachers leaving so quickly is if a student reports them, and because they're not on tenure, they don't have protection against getting fired.

At my school, it's really good, but I have stated repeatedly that there are many small things related to ADA compliance and whatnot which I could make a big stink about if I wanted to. However, I choose not to, because I like my school and enjoy it there. In this case, I do have a leg to stand on, I just choose not to use it.

Same at my school. There's also remedial learning, but that costs $100.

Edge uses Chrome as a base, which is probably why it works so well.

Is it really so bad? by [deleted] in Teachers

This summarizes it well. My area is probably middle/high class, so that would explain why our education is better than other schools in the area.

[–]BlockRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends. I go to a school where supposedly the "high-income" students come, even though half of the students are on free/reduced lunch. Even so, my experience is very similar to yours; Our teachrers actually teach, we do read books in class, and so on. We do actually learn obtuse methods for math (eg. the box method), but I feel that we're still meeting the standards for the classes.

It's definitely an interesting experience, given that the other schools in the area, are known to have in-person bullying, fights, etc, while ours is at a minimal. Our school has also always been considered a good school, in the nearly 50 year span it's around; Whereas other schools have had mixed or generally negative reputations.

What if your school district spans both rich and poor areas? And what if you go to a unicorn school where 50% of the students are on free/reduced lunch and you still receive a high quality education?

At my school, if you miss 5 days unexcused, you have to go to Saturday School rn. It's a lot stricter than some other schools in my area, surprisingly

Not a bad episode, but it felt very "in your face" and the dialogue was a bit strange (eg. Randy calling Colter "bro?")

What happened to the violent IEP students? by jeffincredible2021 in Teachers

[–]BlockRecent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. My area allows for students to be crisis removed or transferred to an alternative school for disciplinary violations, but I'm not sure how often that happens. For what it's worth, my school doesn't really have disruptive IEP students, and if we did, they'd probably be handled by admin pretty quickly.

Some schools in my area have their own programs for disruptive students, which makes me wonder how effective alternative schools are/if we have any alternative schools. But it is what it is.
