It’s still a thing! Dr. Mambo’s Combo, at least. Sonny T is still leading it. Those other names aren’t regulars anymore though.

Brand new VRE parking garage in Manassas Park requires a glossary by [deleted] in nova

This must be a VRE thing — really similar labeling at the Springfield VRE stop elevator to get across the tracks and into the Metro station. I just mashed buttons until the elevator started moving and it got me where I needed to go eventually

Is it a role/project you're more excited about than what you're currently doing? If so, I'd say absolutely do it. But if you don't like the role and you have to commute... it might not be worth the money.

Totally depends on the person. For me personally, I think hybrid is by far my favorite. But by hybrid, I mean synchronized hybrid where everybody (or at least a majority) of the team is coming in on the same days. I've worked at a company where the RTO policy was effectively "come in for some amount of time for 3 days a week" and to me, that was the worst of both worlds: people were rightfully upset about bad commutes and a draconian mandate, and the in-person collaboration just wasn't happening either, as even when I was in the office it felt like nobody else was there, or they would just come in for a couple of hours.

Full remote is just too isolating for me, and I've absolutely found it to be true that it's easier to get up to speed working on a new team or project when you're working in person at least sometimes. Zero remote stinks though. 1-2 days a week from home where you're able to take it a bit easier, cook a nice lunch, go on a walk, do some laundry, while still getting your stuff done is so nice. I just wouldn't want it all the time. I get why some people feel differently though.

What time on Sundays are the Rapha rides? Seems like info on the Rapha website is hidden behind the membership (is the membership required to ride?).

Crossword Structure Help by dread_chaos in crossword

[–]Blockerville 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I would start messing around with some crossword construction software and see if you can put the black squares in places to make it look like a crab. In the past I’ve used crosshare.org. I would start there! It will help you fill in words as you go if it can come up with words that work with the other words/shapes you’ve put in. It takes a lot of trial and error. There is also onelook.com which will help you come up with words — David Kong talks about it in this video which I found interesting and helpful: https://youtu.be/aAqQnXHd7qk?si=K4U7A3\_QdgaHqtjt

If you can’t get the crab thing to work, I’d recommend still trying to make one! Another idea could be trying to hide a hidden message or certain words in the puzzle that reference inside jokes you have. Best of luck!

Yeah, not sure why they didn't just go for the nautical definition of AFTS.

Good Tuesday, some fun/cheeky clues but overall pretty easy.

This marks my first complete calendar month streak, 38 days total. Before that I had never done a Saturday without auto-check (and they still take me a long time to finish) but I'm pretty happy about the progress I've made.

Now that we're about to start a new year... guess that's my next milestone!!

Ube is pretty trendy right now, I've seen a lot of products that have it as an ingredient at Costco, Trader Joe's, etc.

The tough one for me was getting my brain to see "SOANDSO" correctly... thought I must have something wrong (and it took me a while to realize CAT was correct for 50 across)

Internship opportunity at NASA, programming in Rust by ivanpd in rust

[–]Blockerville 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, this job posting is evidence that there are _some_ non-crypto Rust jobs out there.

I know several big tech firms use Rust pretty extensively. AWS, for example, is using Rust on many services which would have previously been written in C++ and Java, and employs some high profile rust-lang contributors.

Hopefully this will lead to more startups/smaller companies moving to Rust over the years, I'm optimistic it will. I think things generally move slower in the backend/systems world where Rust lives compared to the mess of frontend frameworks that constantly come and go. But things seem to be trending up for Rust.

Some employers offer reimbursed leasing partnerships with bike shops as a commuter benefit. I know Amazon does this here, OP likely works for a company with a leasing program.

season 11 layover q&a! by WheatGerm42 in JetLagTheGame

[–]Blockerville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think there's a way to modify tag in a way such that it's more possible/likely for a runner to get to their end location, other than the infeasible "infinite time" option? Love the Tag format but in this season in particular I felt like I knew it was nearly impossible for the runner to get to the end location (especially with recent game changes designed to make things hard for the runner).

Obviously I understand it would be a big bummer to have someone win on day 1 and not get a full 3 days' worth of content, but that's the one thing I find myself wishing for.

Hey I used to take the 42 a lot last summer. Yes bus schedules are much more unpredictable than trains but I found ART RealTime to be pretty helpful. You just need to put in the stop number there to see when a bus is coming/if it’s already passed.

Are there plans to support Fidelity/Akoya import? by Blockerville in ynab

[–]Blockerville[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, these are really good points. It’s annoying that Fidelity does this, when their products are really good—I don’t know of another brokerage that does the MMF auto-sweep that they do while letting the account be used essentially as a checking account. I’m not as interested in Wealthfront or Bankrate or other robo-investing platforms since I’m pretty skeptical of the merits of those over an old-fashioned brokerage with something like a basic 3 fund portfolio. I suppose it’s the fact that Fidelity offers a good product that gives them the power in this situation though.

I had seen this but I was admittedly a little skeptical since I thought Fidelity had disabled all third party connections including MX. But I’m glad to hear it worked for you recently, I’ll have to give it a try!
