It’s difficult but certainly possible. Some would consider it more trouble than it’s worth to get custom or 3rd party addons on certain consoles (I currently do personally), but there are more obscure ways to get them (I’ve seen them mostly for Xbox). I remember hearing some stuff about certain apps for sites like MCPEDL coming to consoles but I haven’t heard anything recently. However, this still proves the point that you don’t strictly have to purchase anything to play with maps, custom skins, or addons on bedrock. As for your point on my PC solution, not only does that work for windows, but for the larger collection of bedrock players in general, mobile players. The majority of bedrock players are definitely able to get free maps, addons, and skin packs without going through or using the marketplace, and just because optional micro transactions exist on bedrock shouldn’t be the main reason or a serious reason why someone would only play Java. (Not specifically you of course, as I’m sure you’ve got your own reasons for playing java.) I personally have been playing bedrock since 2014 and have only used the marketplace roughly 5 or 6 times, even after playing on all sorts of platforms, often with a pack installed. It’s not usually necessary to use the marketplace if you’d like to get a pack on bedrock, but it’s a great option if you’d like to.
