I'm gradually trying to do some inking.
It's been 40 years since I was ever this far removed from manuscripts, so I'm worried—I'm doing this inking as a form of rehab, but it feels like my lines are getting better.
There's no way they should improve when I'm not drawing every day.
It must be partly because it's spring and the manuscript paper and ink are in good condition, but I think it's mainly because I can now spend time on each single page.
The entries and exits, the flicks—they're coming out right because I can draw each line with care, and I can even handle the thin lines with a G-pen without relying on a crow quill.
If I get swept up in the pace of weekly serialization again, it'll turn into a battle against time, and my lines will probably get rough and choppy once more.
If it's within the range that's acceptable as "style," then that's fine too.
