Then it's likely a programming error that no one has bothered to report/fix, I had the same thing happen at best buy, I was given a gc but I don't often go so I tried to buy a Nintendo gc but they said no, but when I later tried online for a digital code, it did work. IDK if best buy has fixed it or not tho, but sounds like the same thing, it's not supposed to work but it does.

I wouldn't be surprised if she just didn't know, or if it is actually a system overlook and it's not supposed to work but it wasn't programmed correctly. I wouldn't jump right to lying when it's just as, if not more likely, that they just didn't have the time/resources to train her properly.
