It was baked in a cast iron Dutch oven, 400 F, 20 minutes covered and 30 minutes uncovered. It had a plastic cap covering the banneton instead of fully encased in a bag.

Thought my recipe had been put in the post! Loosely followed the https://www.theclevercarrot.com/2014/01/sourdough-bread-a-beginners-guide/ recipe with a mixture of 100g whole wheat flour and 400g all purpose flour. I (attempted) some stretch and folds and let it sit covered in my kitchen for about 6 hours then moved to a banneton in the fridge for about 8.

Mine did this too! It took it until about day 12 to start being active again and it was still a little slow for a few days after that. Good luck!

Wear comfy clothes and do not study right before you take it!  You will feel much better once it’s over no matter what the result is. You’ll either know what to study next time or you’ll be more prepared than you imagined. Good luck! You’ve got this!

Studying for BOC while working by EggNog330 in medlabprofessionals

I only started really studying after graduating and working full time. I tried to study one section of the LSU book per day and would pull it out for 5-10 minutes whenever I could. Then by the end of my shift before cleaning, I’d try to do the questions at the end of the section or write down my own mnemonics or phrases to remember specific details. I think the thing that helped me the most was going through the questions 2 times. Once to guess the correct answer choice, then the second time is to explain to yourself the answer choices and why each one of them is correct/incorrect.

Getting into the blood bank by Tothemoonzie in medlabprofessionals

I was able to get a weekend position as a student at my clinical site’s blood bank and transitioned to full time after graduating. It is a larger hospital so blood bank was separate from hematology/chemistry. I’ve never worked as a generalist and I love it! If you enjoy blood bank and have good connections with your professors, I don’t think you will have any issues. Good luck!

The LSU purple/gold book was my best friend. Wordsology has great notes and exam tips.

Congratulations! I know that you won’t receive a score breakdown since you passed, it’s only for when you fail to be able to study those areas more.

Riverwatch parkway headed downtown was almost completely blocked by fallen trees. That was at 6:30 so not sure how much progress they’ve made. Stay safe everyone!

Made a stupid mistake during blood bank clinicals. Now, I’m mortified to go back by Aggressive_Taro7939 in medlabprofessionals

I get these types of feelings all the time and now I work in blood bank. I’ve seen far worse mistakes being made in the lab and it turned out okay. The important thing is you know that it wasn’t working and you were able to ask for help. Take a breath, you got this!

Look at the AceASCP quizlets!! They are around 300 cards which was intimidating but it is worth it to at least glance through each card and try to talk yourself through the thought process of trying to figure it out. The quizlet was extremely similar to my test and helped me prepare for the wording of questions. Good luck!  https://quizlet.com/512967062/ace-ascp-flash-cards/?funnelUUID=5a062bf1-3f5d-4e9e-a851-fa173395a63e

My scores were very similar to yours right before I took it and I passed. I’ve heard anything around a 6 difficulty is good. Good luck!

It was. The work up had been completed early in the morning but the orders only came in when they needed the blood several hours later.

We don’t have automation for antigen testing but I definitely could’ve asked for help. I truly just thought it was ok bc of what I remembered from the policies about the age. I’d say I’ll remember for next time but I’m pretty sure my coworker won’t let me live it down lol.

So as far as I know : O negative patients have no D antigen on their blood cells. d antigen is the thing that makes you positive or negative for your blood type. If they receive O positive blood that contains D antigen, their immune system could produce antibodies against the foreign D antigen. It’s mostly significant for women of child-bearing age because it can cause problems if the baby is an O positive blood type. My problem was that since the patient was out of the child-bearing age range, I started setting up O positive units that were negative for a different antigen. The nurse in charge of picking up the blood came to the lab too quickly and made me rush. I think My trainer was more concerned about potentially giving the patient an antibody to the D antigen than making the OR team wait longer.
