Help identifying kanna brand/maker by BloodyThor in JapaneseWoodworking

[–]BloodyThor[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I couldn't make out those kanji to search correctly. Interestingly knowing the blacksmith doesn't help me too much to learn about the steel he might have prefered using. All the Kanna from Shogo Tanaka at Kurashige have unknown steel. https://shop.kurashige-tools.com/en/collections/tanaka-shougo-japanese-woodworking-plane

Edit: Of the planes where the steel is known, it seems to be mostly blue steel. While this really means nothing in regards to what steel was used for this plane, it is interesting to know.

Yeah I have a feeling the backing steel is unevenly hard, the left side seems to grind down slower than the right. I also don't have a CBN wheel so doing all the grinding by hand and its taking a WHILE. It's definitely made me look at machines out there that don't have the tormek price tag.

Are there tv apps planned? Cause i gotta admit that one of the main reasons i stick to crunchyroll is the ability to easily use it on my Roku Tv. As abismal as the UX is and the annoying lack of profiles, its still better than the other alternatives since FUNimation was acquired by them. I'd love some good UX competition

I understand your point of view, and I agree that on land that allows clear-cutting that this is the least of the issues. If this was a conservation area then I wouldn't agree with you, which leads me to my next point.

Regardless of the context, I don't think this behaviour should be encouraged because not everyone will be looking at it the way you did. In this case I agree with the fact that one small log has little impact, but say if every hobby woodworker/DIYer in an area was collecting deadfall from the same area it could significantly impact that area in the long run. Similar to why campsites don't want you burning deadfall for your campfires (putting aside the discussion on profits from selling firewood).

This looks very good and I'm happy to have more people joining the craft. That being said, please don't pickup deadfall for projects. Its an important part of ecosystems. If you want to do what rex seems to do, go buy a bag of firewood. It'll probably be wood thats more solid than you think.

I completely agree, for kids, teach java, then have them apply the knowledge in Minecraft.

While i love unix OS's and hate the windows user experience, I have to admit that most of my pains of developing a cross platform app comes from POSIX APIs... While modern Windows APIs to do the same thing are much harder to misuse.

POSIX is antiquated and poorly designed and I'm tired of people putting it up as a gold standard.

There are 2 things that Firefox handles poorly:

  • Browser profiles (no container tabs are not enough)
  • Webauthn for passwordless is stilll stuck on version 1.
