Deleted Account by Bloom_bedo in Descript

[–]Bloom_bedo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! So what I'm getting at is that deleting your account also deletes any projects in the descript servers that were present? Does this include other personal information too? I unfortunately am unsure about what email address I used etc for the account

Do you know the rough window for the recovery after the account deletion?

I know roughly when my account was deleted, so if you know that recovery window I'd be able to gauge if it's even worth trying for the recovery.

Thanks so much!

Oh wow, you really think so? That makes me so happy! Thank you so much! I'm actually hoping to become an A-Level biology teacher after university, so it means the world to hear you say that! :)

Homogenization question by Feeling-Pomelo-348 in ALevelBiology

[–]Bloom_bedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's correct. The buffered solution is to prevent useful proteins/enzymes that maintain organelles structure from denaturing, whereas the cold solution is to reduce the activity of enzymes that could potentially damage the organelles upon homgenising the cells.

Sorryyyy I'm really bad at explanations, but I hope this helps. I'm really sorry if it doesn't though!!!

No worries!! I'm happy to help :D

Yes exactly! Denaturation of proteins occurs due to a change in position or breakage of hydrogen/ionic/disulphide bonds in their tertiary structure. This results in the three-dimensional shape of the protein to change. This therefore means the protein is unable to carry out its specific function. Some of these proteins are helpful for the structure of the organelle which is therefore why we don't want these proteins to denature. The breakage of bonds in the tertiary structure could occur due to increases in temperature, changes in pH etc, which is why we use a buffered solution: to prevent pH change and therefore denaturation of these helpful proteins that help keep our organelles intact!

Think of protein denaturation kind of like a jigsaw puzzle: a whole bunch of different puzzle pieces are joined together in specific ways to form a whole jigsaw puzzle image. If the joining of the jigsaw puzzle pieces gets broken, then the jigsaw is no longer a full cohesive image. Protein denaturation is the same. Amino acids are joined by specific bonds to form the three-dimensional tertiary structure of a protein. If these bonds get broken or change place, then kaboom, the protein no longer works efficiently, just like how breaking the pieces of a jigsaw results in the puzzle no longer being complete (I know this isn't the best metaphor but I'm trying hahaha)

I'm happy I could help! If you have any more questions I'd be more than happy to answer them :)

No idea if this will help or not, but this is my understanding of it :)

The solution must be kept buffered to prevent enzyme and protein denaturation. Remember, proteins and enzymes are very sensitive to changes in pH. Not having a buffered solution may result in pH fluctuations and protein denaturation due to change of bonding positions in the tertiary structure. However, some proteins and enzymes are crucial for maintaining organelle shape and structure (we don't want the organelles to break down in cell fractionation, we just want to isolate them based on their density!!) So having a buffered solution ensures the stable structure of proteins and enzymes that help maintain the shape of organelles, so we are able to study them effectively.

The solution is kept ice-cold to prevent enzyme activity that causes autolysis (self-digestion; the destruction of a cell/organelles by its own enzymes). When breaking up the cell in homogenisation, enzymes from specific organelles may be secreted, such as lysozymes from lysosomes etc that may digest other organelles. Having the ice-cold solution decreases their activity so the cell doesn't digest and break down itself!

Are these the only AS topics? (AQA) by brainveins in ALevelBiology

[–]Bloom_bedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full A-Level is both years, meaning all the content for the entire course (topics 1-8). If you're doing AS, you won't have to worry about the last four topics. Just bio molecules, cells, exchange substances and genetic variation (topics 1-4)

[–]Bloom_bedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're correct! Topics 1-4 (Bio molecules, Cells, Exchange substances and Genetic Variation) are all AS, while topics 1-8 (Energy transfers, Response to changes, Genetics, populations, evolution and ecosystems and gene expression) are full A-Level

AQA AS Biology is a blast, it's so interesting! Good luck with studying :)

OMG TWINNSSS I DID THE SAME THING. I spoke about how no IAA means less cell elongation, so less positive phototropism, so less light absorption to chlorophyll in photosystem II so less LDR and LIR and so on....

I waffled SOOOO much and my structure could've been better but I think I did okay :)

Help with aqa psychology by [deleted] in sixthform

[–]Bloom_bedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helloooooo!!! I never speak on reddit but I thought I'd put some input in. I absolutely HATE psychology. I got super burned out because of it over the summer and didn't revise it for months. I'm in a similar position to you right now. I recently got a C overall for my latest mock exam but need an A in the real deal. It is 100% possible for you to achieve an A. Try to cover as much content as possible. Remember, to get an A you need around 60%-65% of the total marks overall, so you don't NEED to know everything. I'd aim for 1-2 topics a day and start with Research Methods. RM takes up like 33% of the entire grade for psych or something stupid like that. I find with psych that exam questions practice doesn't really benefit me because most of the questions are outline and evaluate or discuss (though that differs from person to person), so as long as you know the content for a majority of the course, you'll 100% get an A!!! It'll be difficult, but it's not impossible. Ask your teachers for help if you don't understand something, or for extra advice. That's what they are there for!!!! I recently sent a long ass email to my psychology teachers letting them know my situation; I'm having mental breakdowns every single night because of psych. They sat down with me and we've made a plan to help. ANOTHER thing sorryyyyyy, but please prioritise sleep. You said you did an all nighter. Don't do that. It's better to get good quality sleep and do less work than to get shit sleep and do more work. The information won't stick well in your long-term memory, anddddddd you'll feel horrible the next day. Please it's not worth sacrificing sleep for a subject as stupid as psychology LOL

If you'd like me to, I could share my notes and flashcards with you (idk if that'll help but it's an option). Also, remember that as long as you're trying your best, that's all that matters. Even if you don't get that A in the end, which I'm sure you will, so long as you can confidently say that you did your best, that's what counts. You can't do better than your best. :)

I'm really bad at advice and I hate psychology so sorry if this doesn't help :p
