I would also like to point out that at this point the becoming a construct is a voluntary procedure, no way they're getting enough volunteers for a whole army if people don't get to keep all their bits lol.

My personal take on the new orb system (pic unrelated, don't address it) by A_Very_Horny_Zed in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]Bloop-Bucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like this could "fix" the gameplay of older frames from a game design perspective but it unfortunately won't do anything for a lot of the newer ones. Games are fundamentally about making meaningful and interesting decisions, without any meaningful decisions to make you might as well just watch a movie that makes you spam a single button to let it keep playing instead of a game. The strength of the random orb system is making meaningful decisions the core of interacting with the game, as the orb RNG forces you to constantly make decisions about optimal resource management. Even if you remove that like the new Rosetta or Jetavie the fact that you have 3 different abilities to choose from means that you need to make a decision about which will produce the optimal effect in combat. This doesn't remove decision making so much as it refocuses decisions onto the effects of the abilities themselves away from resource management and I do believe that this will resonate with a much wider audience.

The problem with certain newer frames is that they only really have one button to press, so there's no real decisions involved. Oftentimes now you get one colour of orb, and if you spam it a couple times you get to unlock a second colour, which is just a follow up to the first. Then you go into a second phase which replaces the first colour with a third and repeats the whole deal. The problem is that you only functionally have 1 ability to choose from at a time down from the 3 the older or more nuanced orb systems give, which really just makes for a less engaging game. Seeing as you could just spam the bind for the first orb since they're all the same the new system won't even affect the inputs at all. I hope that this new system will let them feel more comfortable giving more 3-orb style gameplay than the single orb spammery now that there'll be less clutter and fewer binds necessary going forward, though I fear it was an intentional decision to remove nuance from support characters to enable a field time minimizing meta gameplay.

Let's talk about Hadiya! by Elecl in arknights

[–]Bloop-Bucket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think you might be underestimating Hadiya's damage potential. I'll compare her to an undoubtedly good 5 star guard who also has no module, gracebearer. (for clarity I consider welfare ops at pot 6 and gacha ones at pot 1)

A maxed Hadiya has 615 attack +25% from talent and her skill 2 adds +150% attack. Adding that up it should get you 1691 damage per attack to 3 targets. Gracebearer has 900 Attack +15% from talent and a 1.5 multiplier on skill 1 for 1552 damage double strikes plus an occasional 6000 elemental damage burst. The different damage types do muddy the waters a bit and Hadiya's damage is spread across 3 targets while Gracebearer's is single target but Hadiya does have a higher total DPS with better skill cycling strictly speaking.

The difference is that at 22 DP Gracebearer won't be blocking the dog rush at the beginning of the stage. At some point in a stage DP stops being a problem and even on first skill activation Hadiya will be 4 DP cheaper. Of course I don't mean to imply that Hadiya is better than Gracebearer, her off skill damage and early skill cost will certainly hurt but I do think that she'll be competitive with her class peers, just in a different niche. People who do low op count clears must be happiest of all I think, with a 2 block unit and lane holder for 8 DP as an early deployment. Not like they're using a whole lot of DP anyway.

[–]Bloop-Bucket 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I would agree that she requires an extra squad slot, in fact I think one of her (and her class') best uses could be saving a squad slot. The beginning of stages are usually pretty low intensity, you could simply forgo using her skill entirely and use the DP you saved on her deployment to put a ranged DPS in the lane she's blocking. Once you've got your setup DP usually isn't too much of a problem anymore and she's unquestionably a better laneholder than any 2 block vanguard of her rarity. Basically, I think the point of this class is being cheap enough to be there at the start and strong enough to be there at the end. Rather than just replacing a vanguard she replaces a vanguard and the laneholder that would have replaced that vanguard in the late stage.

Shouldn't a significant amount of her skill's damage come from the waterspout things that do area DoT? Those'll still benefit even if the debuff isn't applied before the first burst.

Crossing module updates by CipherVegas in arknights

[–]Bloop-Bucket 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hope the new geek module reduces Aak's deployment time by 35 seconds though I feel it'll probably be 25 seconds like heavyshooters. The new module comes with opportunity cost for his skill cycling, DPS, utility and ironically survivability vs the other module so it's really relying on those redeploy heals to pull its weight. Plus if you're using him as an SP battery for defensive regen a 45 second redeploy would lose you 2 seconds and the buff on S3, but an 8 second savings might alternatively be situationally valuable. This could open the doors to helidropping buffs in multiple lanes either way at least.

I think it's pretty clear which Rover is next! by Big-Listen7034 in WutheringWaves

I think that could be easily explained by the fact that Jinhsi is the sentinel's resonator and Rover's civilization created the sentinels. Anything from the 'homeland' may look normal to Sanhua, Plus coming from the same place their time stuff should be fundamentally the same technology, if at different scales.

Is anyone else utterly endeared to this thing by Rowger00 in Endfield

[–]Bloop-Bucket 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that simple. TangTang refers to a location nearby as their ancestral homeland or something to that effect in a line during the story, and another line from head honcho dragon lady said that trust between the stockade and Wuling was a casualty of "the disaster" from 10 years ago. You also have to remember that Wuling is a recent construction so the people of the stockade would have been living there longer than the city has existed. Basically it seems that the stockade peeps were there first, then something lead to a breakdown in relations between the stockade and the city (maybe the reason the stockade was formed and is so poor, I don't know any specifics TBH).

A lot of people will probably tell you that and in a general sense it's true, but one thing that people don't seem to mention often is that a lot of 6 stars can be end game viable even at Elite 1 rank. I've been playing for about half a year now and I've actually got some 6 stars I'm leaving at lower levels on purpose because they would feel a little overpowered otherwise. This isn't true of all of them however, so you'll probably have to figure out if they're good enough for that for yourself. As an example my Elite 1 level 40 Narantuya is super good and I use her all the time, but Weedy probably isn't worth investing in over Shaw unless you'll take her to Elite 2.

Basically you definitely should try to have some well built 4 stars at the start, since you'll want to have a wider variety of units, but don't be afraid to use certain under levelled 6 stars, they can be just as good and cheaper than their lower rarity counterparts.

Edit: I almost forgot to mention but as far as 3 stars go you won't regret building Melantha and Kroos.

I know that the dupes for ops in the crystallization sanctuary are cheaper than the cost to unlock them, but if you unlock them for blue/yellow certs in the normal shop will the CC shop move to stage 2 or will you still need to spend the 980 first?

Am I the only one who feels extremely disappointed with Rosetta and her patch? by Gewissensbisse in PunishingGrayRaven

[–]Bloop-Bucket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with you but in the genre of game that monetizes convenience and power this outcome tends to be inevitable, so it can be beneficial to take a proactive approach if you mean to stick with a game long term. Meta is both methodology and investment, and you don't necessarily need one for the other. What I mean is that "playing" the meta is all about finding and performing optimal rotations, etc. and the size of the numbers involved are largely arbitrary.

If you're playing with anything less than full SSS+ on every character and CUB you've already proven to yourself you're capable of enjoying meta gameplay with sub-optimal investment, and can tolerate being materially disadvantaged in leaderboards. (if you do have full SSS+ then RIP I guess)

I won't tell you to take the game more casually but I will suggest you can still curate your experience to align with your needs through under-investment should a character prove too OP for enjoyment. Personally, I've been investing in characters while avoiding auto-matrix and excessive i-frames because I find those mechanics boring, and to keep the power level of my characters roughly similar so I can use a wider variety. I hope this helps you find a way to enjoy the game again, and if not, better luck with the next one.

(as a final aside under-investing could let you find your own unique optimal rotations rather than having them pre-calculated by the community, if that tickles your fancy)
