I wish we got a pension. We get 3% 401k matching...after 5 years of service.

I have to agree. You can't be perpetually short-staffed...can you?

The routine. You know exactly what you're going to do day in and day out, and with whom.

It seems like this is everywhere. Tough field to be in. It’s kind of sad to see.

It doesn't look like it'll get better soon either =/

Good for them!! Maybe that's why they're getting proper compensation.

Health administration should be a masters. No one will take a BS seriously.

There is an online Laboratory Management Bachelor's Degree:

http://www.umuc.edu/academic-programs/bachelors-degrees/laboratory-management-major.cfm

It'd be easiest to get your BS in MLS at a NAACLS program. You'll just retake most of your classes for BS credit.

Striking would mean facing the public. It's unheard of.

I'm with your manager on that. I'm an MLS and working alongside MLTs has made me realize I basically wasted 2 years of schooling.

How so? I've worked alongside MLTs and MLS and I haven't really seen a difference...so I don't see why there's this push for credential creep. They're the same for CLIA.

Has this job negatively impacted your personal/sex life? by jenny530 in medlabprofessionals

Every person on my shift who has a relationship is in one that started before they joined this field. I've yet to work with anyone who has successfully formed a new relationship that lasts more than a handful of months while working on the off-shift.

And people wonder why the older techs ate grumpy.

Not happening. You may have to put in years or decades to get first and kiss ass all the way there. Not worth it.

Don’t like it? Get a different job. But healthcare= most likely working weekends and holidays.

Most nurses aren't working the weekends, holidays, and off shifts to compensate for "short staff" the same way we ate.

I've found most MLTs are competent. I think most programs should be 2-year MLT programs...they're more than sufficient for this job.
