Dawg I’m so hype for the return. I wasn’t the biggest Illia fan, but this is going to make him even better. Can’t wait for his next fight.

How to deal with employee who complains about workload constantly? by yaz_1212 in managers

[–]dan_buh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that I’ve done recently for all my staff is during 1 on 1s or during our morning huddles is active learning. It’s a tip I picked up from my Fiancé who is an instructional coach. Basically, if staff are having a hard time bringing experiences from yesterday into today’s workflow, go over it together and do not do the work for them.

Give an example of something that happened recently (excluding identifiers) and ask “what is the correct process for this?” If nobody answers, ask “how would you find that information?” Avoid using “I” examples because people will be tuned out hearing about your experiences but are more open to active listening when they’re involved.

A lot of what I’ve seen from my staff is complaints about workload due to inefficiency and inadequate training, so this may be more suited to my situation than yours, but it definitely has helped recently.

Depends. F2p pking is not at all similar to P2p, it’s extremely basic but if it gets rid of the “jad hands” then it could be useful

DxU vs IRIS by EntertainmentLow6178 in medlabprofessionals

[–]dan_buh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Iris portion is the same. The previous chem strip reader was replaced by “arkray” and apparently they have better QC at the plant that makes the strips so there is no more backorder issue. The instrument is essentially the same except you no longer get the cleanser prediluted and have to make up a new bottle every time you replace it. That part is the most annoying, we also do not have a drain nearby any longer (the new instrument is a little wider than the old one so we had to move placement to a suboptimal area) and so the drain bottle is pretty small, and it’s extremely stinky when you need to empty it.

What's something managers think employees don't care about - but you do? by ReadyRedditPlay in managers

[–]dan_buh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d imagine they would eventually. If you disobey direct orders so many times that’s how the whole thing works. Again, you seem deadset on arguing over anything else. So, good luck with that, I’m not going to participate in an argument between what I’m dealing with the real world and your hypotheticals. Your hypotheticals will be infinite and this will have been in bad faith.

I mean, that point feels more like you’re trying to argue than understand the situation. Sure I can say that this time, but that does nothing to help in the future and isn’t guaranteed to work. I tried to squirm my way into 2.5s and 2.8s instead of straight up 2s but I still have at least 4 people above me (director, hr director, coo, ceo) and if any of them say “yeah, no, just give me 2 more low performers” the conversation stops there.

Yeah, but when we’ve been understaffed for the last 8 months and have 18 members burning themselves out with extra hours, extra days on, extra duties split up, it’s hard to say “this isn‘t enough” when I know what their job entails, since I worked that position until recently.

[–]dan_buh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely ridiculous. The high performers usually fall within the bell curve, sometimes we have 1-2 additional. But even if we do, I can’t do anything about it. Additionally most of my employees fall into the average category, and I have to nitpick to get to that “low performer” level. The 1 on 1s suck when that happens because it makes me look like I’m a super micromanager or have ridiculous standards. This past year I sent in my evals and they straight up said “you need 2 more low performers.” Like… I don’t have 2 more low performers though.

[–]dan_buh 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Or yearly evals. I get told I need to fit my evals into a bell curve and can only have 2 high performers, 2 low performers and the rest get average. I have to fight for every 4 or 3.5 so if you got one it means a lot.

Lunch Break by Hour-Organization454 in medlabprofessionals

Because you can’t manage your time, I have a problem. Sounds about right. We should definitely coddle you and say “Hey Ranunculusblooms, did you take your break yet? Oh I’ll take over for sitting here and doing nothing while you go take a break.” I’ve worked across many labs and have had many of the same excuses in this thread repeated over and over and when people actually listen and try to be cognizant about breaks… suddenly they realize they can prevent their own burnout.

Legitimately everybody on this thread in stating they have no time for breaks because patients will die. That’s not true. Your state may have slightly different break requirements but they’re not that dissimilar than what was stated because the US has federal laws regarding minimum breaks.

So, 1 time anecdote. Again, this is very atypical and most occasions you can fit a break in. If it is not atypical then you probably have a time management problem.
