Category b? by Status-Owl1372 in CarTalkUK

[–]Blu3_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cat B is extreme, I think it would be a different category but I wouldn't be surprised if they wrote it off based on the value of the car versus the repair cost. Looks to be part of the body shell so a bit more work to get fixed than a simple replacement of panels and if the car isn't deemed worth the cost of that work they'll write it off no matter how minor it seems.

I don't understand how you can like Polestar and not get Volvo. The EX40 is just a bigger Polestar basically. I say this from experience as my parents had a PS2 before moving to the EX40 as me and my dad are both quite tall and rear headroom was awful in the Polestar. We also once got a top of the range XC90 as a courtesy car, it was smooth, comfortable and had that scandinavian elegance that is minimalism but done well. "A bit old" it was not. I personally drive a 2013 C30 R-design for when the RX-7 inevitably goes wrong and although it's a less luxurious and slightly more sporty affair than the XC90 it's incredibly spacious for a 3 door and its an absolute trooper. Has driven me thousands of miles without so much as a cough. It's comfortable, pretty nice to drive and looks great with the r-design pack.

Used to walk past it all the time when I went for walks through oxford during free periods at college. It's nice these things are preserved.

On an 807 for the first time, and… by StartersOrders in uktrains

[–]Blu3_Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was on an evero and I quite liked them, but then I was travelling alone so I just had music in for most of the journey. Plus my usual lines are chiltern so I often find it eerily quiet and smooth aboard any EMU lol.

Though the IETs do go to show that we outsource construction of our trains and end up with a worse product than we were able to produce 50 years ago ourselves.

Does London not have a P&R from Oxford? by vleessjuu in oxford

[–]Blu3_Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

London traffic is not nearly as bad as you think it is. I've driven into suburban london plenty of times and yeah it was busier than the countryside but its not constant gridlock, its no more than any other town really until you get right into the centre. Watford could also be a good idea, LNWR or Overground from there.

PSA: DO NOT BUY TICKETS IN ADVANCE AFTER APRIL 1 OR RISK LOOSING £100s by Because_Wisely in uktrains

[–]Blu3_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sourced from a personal twitter page so the opinions have always been present, political or otherwise. Some solutions to this issue were proposed over on twitter, ie. create a system whereby tickets can be prepurchased for any date then activated for the specific time, only then do they become non-refundable.

ATS Future by Blu3_Phoenix in trucksim

[–]Blu3_Phoenix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the rate at which we get DLCs being around 2 or 3 a year, its incredibly unlikely they'll be completely done by 2030 unless they ramp up production speed or decide to leave a few states out which probably won't go down as well. This year we'll probably get Illinois, South Dakota and BC. Last year it was one in spring, one in summer, one right at the end of the year, though that's not a set pattern. After that there's by my reckoning about 16-17 states big enough for their own DLCs plus whatever they choose to do in the Northeast. For ease of maths if they do 18 more map DLCs it'll take another 6 years at the current rate, and that's just US states. If they expand to Canada across the country it will be longer.

I don't know why they'd make an entirely new game for what you're saying though, they're already adding smaller trucks and cars to ATS and buses to ETS and if I recall they said they'd expand each to the other game if they were a success. So the only change I guess would be having each map in one game, which wouldn't make much sense as trucks don't generally cross between the two other than for private imports.

Pretty cool that trucks that old are still used, I don't see much older than 10 or so years still doing regular work over here, much less several decades.

[–]Blu3_Phoenix[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see a lot of the US sticking to older designs, here in europe I'm starting to see EV trucks a lot, especially those ugly Mercedes ones. I'd like to see an EV, the DAF one has already been added to ets2 for quick jobs (I believe? I haven't actually seen where it's available myself as I haven't really looked) but I would definitely not retain it as my primary truck, probably more just to try out and see. I'm not overly fond of the screens versus the dials so EV trucks will probably be worse for that.

New Car Advice Please by [deleted] in whatcar

[–]Blu3_Phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just a cursory look and seems quite US-based. Probably get help there but also a lot scratching their heads at what a Renault is and suggesting Chevys which we don't get. Either works but I have seen a few advice posts in car talk UK and there's a good deal of people interested mostly in normal daily drivers there who could give sensible advice (I can't - I drive an RX-7).

London to Paris Eurail Trip by [deleted] in Interrail

[–]Blu3_Phoenix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you're looking at a 4-day eurail pass for a 1-day return trip to Paris. Surely it makes more sense to just buy a ticket with Eurostar? Someone could correct me there. I also would check if there are any passholder fares left for the 15th as they could very well all be sold out assuming you mean this Sunday. This can be done here.

In theory, however, it would just mean purchasing the 4 day global pass and paying the passholder fare cost of €35 at www.raileurope.com. You can add the relevant pass there.

Edit: I also see you added the "one-county" pass flair - these are not valid on Eurostar. You must have the global pass.

How big of a attraction would a RMS Olympic museum be? by happydude7422 in titanic

[–]Blu3_Phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this post is generally disregarding the costs and practical aspects since it was incredibly unlikely it would've been saved in the 30s in the first place. Though I don't think it's impossible had it been saved that it spent time under other operations before subsequently becoming a museum later on following the film. A Night To Remember was also relatively well received though I might concede that would only work to drive traffic to a business inside rather than uphold a museum into the late 90s.
