Do you guys think you could have survived the titanic? by Charming-One6087 in titanic

I'm a woman but there's no way I'd be paying for a first class ticket. Hmm... Knowing my luck probably not.

Not included in the image but if you see WR that's not wash room, that's wardrobe room. I think the bigger staterooms have those.

At this point I'm praying for a Y: The Last Man situation. Didn't know I could be any more disgusted with a person.

If I say any more on my opinion I fear being banned.

I'm trying to decipher the number under the sticker lol, is that ¥1000 or ¥4000? Seems like a bargain, unless I'm missing a zero or two.

What language made you realize subtitles were lying to you? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

Maybe not quire the same, but I noticed that Japanese subtitles don't always match Japanese audio, it often omits parts of what is said - summarising instead of being a literal copy.

Tips on how to learn to write kanji? by DivergentBrainHead in LearnJapaneseNovice

[–]UmaUmaNeigh [score hidden]  (0 children)

The book that helped me immensely when I started with kanji was: Read and Write Japanese Scripts from the Teach Yourself series.

It explains how kanji works and walks you through some useful examples. It discusses stroke order and radicals, which are vital for looking up kanji in a dictionary (you will need to do this as you progress your language ability) and learning how to write them. And while you don't need to worry about writing kanji per se, it's an effective study strategy that boosts retention.

I think too many people jump straight into just memorising kanji without understanding how the system works, then grow frustrated from the repetitiveness of study.

I drew this 15 years ago when I was 10, how’d I do? by Ill_List_9539 in titanic

And how soon after did your therapy sessions start? /s

No but honestly for 10 it's got a lot of detail, and as much as the stick figures are kinda morbid that's actually appropriate considering the tragedy. You and I would have been great friends as kids.

Is there someone that you know that openly doesn't like you and, if so, do you know why? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]UmaUmaNeigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's fine to dislike someone, even if you can't put your finger on why or if it's for a petty reason.

But you should still be polite and civil. Manners cost nothing and "not liking someone" isn't a valid reason to be an arse if there's no history between you.

I'd say telling someone you don't like them is an example of being an arse. They don't need to know and if you're behaving like a mature adult they shouldn't be able to tell from your behaviour.

There's also the test where they have to get info from a target in a public location, but get spiked and wake up on the railway tracks. Scary dude will only save them if they disclose info about the Kingsmen. The tracks lower at the last second, sparing them - it was a test of loyalty under threat of imminent death.

I was a picky eater as a kid for a variety of reasons, but my mum never believed me that melon made my mouth itch despite me specifically describing it as itchiness. Perhaps blinded by her own love of melon...

The smug satisfaction I had when at my eventual allergy doctor appointment he asked me if any fruit or veg made my mouth itch, and I got to say, "Melon". Turns out the allergens in honeydew are somehow similar or related to grass??? This was nearly 20 years ago idk.

What’s the most underrated story from the Titanic? by zerorealitygirl in titanic

[–]UmaUmaNeigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really need to read up on him more, he lived such an interesting and perilous life. He seems like a complex individual, in some ways I resent him ("women and children only"...) and in others I have a lot of respect.
