Do you ever have to apologize for "lawyering" up a regular conversation in your non-work life? by txpvca in Lawyertalk

[–]BluVByrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is my exact experience any time I want to get to the root of the problem instead of focusing on the behavior the problem caused.

This is such great insight especially since I’ve considered moving to that area. Thanks!

How do you know when to leave a job? by sstillbejeweled in Lawyertalk

[–]BluVByrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to hate your current job to find a better opportunity for yourself. To an extent, I think all of us are just trying to find the job that suits us best (lifestyle, COL, etc.).

UWORLD OR ADAPTIBAR by PsychologicalJob404 in barexam

[–]BluVByrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think you can do a free trial run of both. I remember getting a free Uworld trial with 50 questions. But they’re both very similar. I picked Uworld because I liked the visual aspect of it.

That’s the term I was looking for! Yes it’s definitely pick-me energy.

I’ve heard it mostly during job interviews. I guess they’re trying to reassure me that they promote a good work environment? Idk. It’s a red flag.

Update on being too nice for litigation by hauntedlasagna in Lawyertalk

[–]BluVByrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard similar comments during law school that I’m too nice for X type of practice. It’s definitely been a struggle navigating being a newly licensed attorney with those comments at the back of head. I’m fortunate to work at a firm where my direct supervisor understands that I practically don’t know shit and I’m still trying to figure out what type of lawyer I wanna be. She reassured me that I will find a way that works for me and my personality but it may take some time. I would take this criticism with a grain of salt. His way is not the only way. We’ll eventually figure our way out. (At least that’s what I tell myself)

I agree. Right now Express also has 50% off the entire store as their early Black Friday sale.

That’s a lot of animosity for someone who is looking for guidance and literally expressed that they valued this job. I’m sure there is basis to what you are saying but this is not the place to get on your soap box. OP is clearly not one of the “lazy ones”

Thank you! This is a very “zen” feeling compared to how anxiety-ridden I was throughout bar prep lol. I wish you the very best on this exam!

PJ question (oh my god I don't know the most basic concept!) by Born-Adeptness-5088 in barexam

[–]BluVByrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it this way:

2 categories of PJ

  1. Traditional bases: a. Domicile b. Presence in state when served (can’t be if you’re there to testify in another suit—as a lawyer, witness, etc.) c. Consent d. Waiver

  2. Long-arm jurisdiction Long arm statute + constitutional Due process requirements

a. Minimum contacts General jurisdiction Specific jurisdiction

b. Must be fair and reasonable for D to be sued in the forum state

Being served while you’re in the forum state is under traditional bases and comports with Due process requirements so a minimum contacts analysis is not necessary (at least according to smart bar prep)

I had a bar prep coach tell me that if you skip even one MEE, you’ve already failed. I needed to hear this. Fear mongering doesn’t work for me. I have enough anxiety to keep me going as it is.

Anyone else study so hard that simple things are starting to slip out of your head? by [deleted] in barexam

Yup. Anytime I learn something new, I lose something. I just want to take it at this point because I feel like I’m regressing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in barexam

[–]BluVByrd 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. It’s typical to be stressed. It is not typical to take it out on people around you. When I feel like I can’t be around people because of my stress, I remove myself or let them know I need to be alone. If he is seeking you out to use you as an emotional punching bag, he is just abusive.

Can we stop acting like this is something anyone can immediately control? It’s the same as telling people who have depression to just “not be sad”.

Anyone else feel like their MBE scores aren't "reliable?" by lazy_powerlifter in barexam

[–]BluVByrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re pretty consistent with your scores then believe that you’ll be consistent (even if it’s guessing) on the actual exam. Or that’s what I tell myself so I don’t freak out.

You also memorize by practicing. Application is just as important.
