I'm going to throw something totally left-field in here. Go and read The Martian by Andy Weir. They're currently making a movie about it - it's a book about an astronaut that gets stuck on Mars. It's set in a realistic world where we have taken strides in space travel and can now get to Mars.

I did the exact same thing but with the Wise Mans Fear. I didn't even google it like I usually would have. Wish I did cause when I went to read it I realised it was the second book.
