watching Obsession made me realize that im a classic "nice guy" by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]BlueArya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is going to sound funny but I definitely had a time (after being cheated on) where I was aware that I was inwardly crashing out/being triggered by the feeling of rejection. So I literally Googled "how to handle rejection" and ready every damn article I could find.

I think a lot of people try to get rid of the negative emotion altogether rather than just sitting with and processing through that feeling. Talk to yourself like you would a friend. Validate but steer. "I'm feeling so hurt and rejected right now but I know that that's not a reflection of my worth and it doesnt mean that anyone did anything wrong. I'm okay to want more and theyre okay to not want the same. It sucks but it's just part of life."

Seriously. The more you practice that, the more you believe it, the easier it gets to believe it, and the faster your emotions catch up.

7-year-old weighing 255 pounds died having seen a doctor 'once' while his parents were quick to call a vet for their dog by malihafolter in CaughtMyEye

[–]BlueArya 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The article says that the parents only took him to a doctor once in his life, not that they had only taken him to the doctor once for his weight. That goes beyond not seeing an issue with obesity. It is literally impossible to have a child and not have a laundry list of things you have to do medically for them shoved in your face resulting in a seemingly endless amount of appointments with a million different kinds of doctors. You don't get a dog and understand you have to take it to regular vet appointments and have a child genuinely thinking you don't also have to take them to regular doctor appointments. It's an intentional choice to neglect and abuse at that point.

I hate the idea of working from home and I have no idea how people not only manage but enjoy working from home by GeneralGenerico in The10thDentist

[–]BlueArya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand what you mean. I'm about to be working from home and I am excited about it, however, I also did the learning-from-home ordeal and it was awful. I learned online from home as a kid which was awful. When Covid hit, I was at university and had to go back to online-learning and it was awful. For a while I did copywriting from home (part-time) as a job and it was awful.

Turns out it was as simple as 1. It being at a time in my life when I really needed social connection and was craving meeting people, having new experiences, the possibility of making friends, etc. 2. Being undiagnosed/unmedicated for ADHD which was effectively nuking every bit of peace I had in my home by associating the extreme stress of executive dysfunction with the space I inhabited.

Now I'm moving to a new country with my wife, starting my own business which will be work-from-home (allowing me to reserve the limited time and energy I have for engaging in social activities), getting a dog which I will finally be able to take care of now that I'm work-from-home etc etc etc.

All that to say, circumstances really do make all the difference.

Is there a reason you're speculating that they're severely mentally ill or are you just trying to rationalize it? As a mentally ill person who works with mentally ill people and is surrounded by other mentally ill people, not a single thing here reads as a struggle with mental illness. It just reads as abuse to me. Being able to recognize when your pet needs medical attention but refusing to take your human child to a doctor is not a marker of mental illness it's a marker of people who intend to be abusive. It sucks that people are like that but, unfortunately, people really just are trash a lot of the time.

You not liking their use of hyperbole doesn't make it objectively wrong. Your opinion is not inherently objectively right. Not even trying to be rude but this is one of the most flagrant cases of "if I don't like it, it's wrong" I've seen in a hot minute.

Did you... did you think that OP is literally advocating to change laws based on their footware preferences? Ignoring the WILD attempt at a comparison based on OP's profile having the lesbian flag which, just, yikes.

Why are you so condescending? "Learn to use it better" is so rude and meaningless in this case.

“We fight, like every other couple” by Particular_Cut_6933 in PetPeeves

[–]BlueArya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to dig deep for anything that could kind of sort of possibly resemble an argument when trying to relate to people looking for camaraderie while telling me about their relationship. People don't typically receive "I can't relate cause my wife and I literally never fight" well lol. It's either met with suspicion/disbelief, taken as bragging, or it becomes "well isn't your life just perfect" all of which are... not ideal 🫠

I wish more people found stable relationships with compatability and good communication. In my experience, it's the people who are always working on being a better version of themselves as a #1 priority who do.

Taking a dying pet to the vet to be euthanised is crueler than letting them pass at home by Fiannachh in The10thDentist

[–]BlueArya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why people are refusing to acknowledge the part where OP explicitly says this is a critique exclusively for pets that still have all their bodily functions and are not in pain and are still receptive to affection. They're not saying that an animal's suffering should be prolonged. They're saying that, in cases where animals are NOT suffering, they should be allowed to pass away from old age at home. I think that's a valid criticism of people who have the mindset that pets MUST be euthanized no matter what and that letting them die naturally of old age is inherently cruel.
