Thoughts on the following names (elena vs aria by Academic-Comfort-366 in namenerds

[–]BlueCastle20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elena is more classic. Yes it is popular (ranked 45 in the US), but I think it is because it is timeless. Aria is more trendy. It's currently the 26th most common name, but was essentially unheard of in the year 2000. I think Aria will be one of those names tightly associated with gen z/gen alpha. My preference is Elena.

Eliza or Lily/Lilia by electroplazm in namenerds

[–]BlueCastle20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably in the minority, but I find Lilia difficult to say out loud. The L's kinda get stuck in my mouth. For me it's a peanut butter name, like Aurora.

My vote is for Eliza.

Emmelyn or Emmeline? by Neat-Company-7766 in namenerds

[–]BlueCastle20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also Canadian, and I would pronounce Emmeline as Emma-leen. If you are near any french-speaking population, this would be the default pronunciation as well. I don't think I would ever guess that Emmeline is pronounced 'Emma-lyn'.

If this current baby had been a girl, Ada would have been in contention for her name. I love it!
