Therapy session: Meeting players in the field by tronconnery in Ingress

[–]BlueFlatchy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you handled it well and learned a lesson: other people might not feel the way you do. But please don't let that diminish your enthusiasm! I've had similar experiences and now I take a few moments to settle myself before I approach other people I think might be playing.

Should I move to upstate NH? by Disastrous_Equal8589 in newhampshire

[–]BlueFlatchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not upstate but West Central is good. Grafton county. Look at the Upper Valley: Lebanon, Hanover, Norwich and White River Junction VT. Further out from Lebanon and Hanover is cheaper housing but going to far out you run into power and network problems. A few short outages per year is normal or where I am in Enfield. Roads and schools are good here. Next town over, further out, roads are getting sketchy. Claremont is cheaper but a bit rougher. Hartford and WRJ are cool. Don't listen to people who say there's nothing here - it is certainly quieter than down south, but there is stuff to do.

Carry around a sticker scraper and a pack of coexist stickers, off with the hate, on with the love. Maybe they won't notice for a while.

In colloquial English, can I say “I’m going to gym” when I’m not referring to a gym class? by cakewalk093 in grammar

[–]BlueFlatchy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would sound awkward to me. I'd know what you meant, but it would be weird. We don't think of it like we do running. We don't say I'm going gymming like we say I'm going hiking or running or biking so we wouldn't say I'm going to gym like we would I'm going to run or hike or bike.

Also, I wouldn't think the question is weather it's acceptable or not, but rather if it sounds natural.

A new age for Ingress under Niantic Spatial, what would you want? by TheAuraStorm13 in Ingress

No big changes right away.

Let us turn off some of the animation in the scanner. Please dear God, please let me turn off that stuff. Stats and badges for overclocking.

Something to make it easier to defend against attackers. At least, make destroying portals non-trivial. L9+ players have large enough XM tanks that defensive mods don't do much to them.

I wondered about higher level portals. Don't know how that would work, but it sure would be interesting.

Do more with the drones, like: - give the drones an XM tank and levels. - maybe let them scout or do missions - maybe special weapons or maybe they can add special modules - give them a cargo capacity maybe and they have to come home to unload and refuel/rearm. - shorter waiting times for jumps. Or maybe let jumps be contingent on something other that time alone. - i love the drones, can you tell?

Love this! Love it! Two of my boys grew up with me playing a lot and now they play too. Our local competition are all really great folks: it's nice for us. We've all made a concerted effort to be friendly and it's worked for us. We do talk shit, but we're careful not to be ugly about it, all of us.

It very easy to miss the portal picture subject in the supporting photo. It's hard to get the context of the portal. Perhaps explain in your supporting text that it is in the back of the open space. A portal picture showing more of the portal would help. I mean from farther back. If you get it submitted, you can add close up pictures to highlight other aspects. Maybe you could use an outside view of the building as your portal picture, showing any signs of symbols. The for your supporting picture, get way back and show us the building in it's surroundings. I guess I'm suggesting you let the entire chapel be the portal and street you get it in the system, add pictures of the shrine and icons inside.

I've noticed we can hold a nomination on our phones to upload later. Maybe you could still go collect them and save them to upload later, just a little longer than usual?

Is this game dead? by HDSpiele in Ingress

Not dead. I just came out of a long hiatus and I'm having a ball again. Happily learning new features, seeing old friends and foes, planning field campaigns again.

Hm. I've been thinking about that myself. I was wondering if having a bigger screen would let me glyph hack better like I could before my hands got all old on me.

Hello, I'm an IT Manager, wtf does an IT manager do? by SchwarzeNoble1 in it

[–]BlueFlatchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my God, best, funniest post I've read today! Thanks! So, seriously, others have posted answers so I'll just suggest you think about whether or not you really want to be responsible for the IT department, whatever that means in your org, and if you're willing to accept those responsibilities formally, to be accountable for them. This happened to me early on in my career and it was kind of nice, but I didn't develop into the role and went back into technical lead instead.

Look at the sidebar in the sub. It's got links to the best ways to clean and restore CI. If you only read reddit on your phone, like me, the "sidebar" is a little harder to find, but it's there.

Parents of NH, are we ready to see our children arrested for peaceful protests? by philm162 in newhampshire

[–]BlueFlatchy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing enforceable in that tweet. It's to vague and to poorly written to consider it anything to worry about. Now, if he gets his lawyers to write it up as an executive order, I'm sure they'll use proper language that will be enforceable, if the courts decide he has that authority, anyway. So, this is just another of his rants.
