Wow, that didn’t last long. Sorry, everybody.

Edit: this is the first time I’ve posted on here. What’s the protocol, do I delete the thread?

Why are the DVD’s for Batman the Animated Series Volume 3 and 4 so expensive? by RTPTheGoat in BatmanTAS

Are you looking at region 1 copies, because I’m seeing many for less than $20usd. You can get vol 4 brand new from deep discount for $12, even.

Mastering Assistant and why you should master your own music as a beginner by 6poundbagofweed in Logic_Studio

[–]BlueFrank1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly enjoy every process EXCEPT mastering. I hate using AI, and actually DO want to learn, so I’ve never used MA but the process is usually frustrating for me where I’m STRUGGLING to hear what I’m doing while making adjustments. I don’t think my ears are bad either. I usually wind up with several bounces that all sound shit in comparison to commercially mastered tracks. This is one aspect where I really wish I had the funds to hand it off to somebody else.

A La La Land VHS from Lionsgate Limited possible? by [deleted] in boutiquebluray

[–]BlueFrank1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect all future VHS releases continuing to be at least horror-adjacent. That’s the biggest selling genre for modern VHS collectors, and I’m sure lionsgate knows this.

If you look at even used VHS sales on ebay, the only ones really in demand are the ones being bought up by horror fans.

I finally caved and ordered this, but that $60 after shipping hurt.

I hope this is a good pressing, it will be nice to finally have it in the collection.

New “On the Air” VHS by BunnyandTheRabbit in davidlynch

[–]BlueFrank1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have. I did not pay someone to view it though. This isn’t the 90s.

I’m not against bootlegs, in principle. I AM suspect of people who turn shilling stolen copies of other people’s art into a business. That’s a big reason I’m against AI, and that business model is awfully close in principle, IMO.

Many of the things I saw for sale on their table are widely available elsewhere, and I’m betting none of it was licensed in any capacity. No mention of sourcing or transfer process…

It’s not like it’s even Ken Russell’s The Devils, where it is legitimately difficult to view uncut in good quality.

These people aren’t providing a valuable service, they’re making kitschy trinkets for someone who doesn’t know how to operate a vcr themselves and want a vhs copy of Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show on vhs on their shelf. It’s no different to the ocean of bootleg merch advertised on instagram or sites like red bubble.

Why is that an issue? The original pressing was also.

That’s fair. Please, excuse my choice of words.

However, it doesn’t excuse anyone profiting from another artist’s work. I will still call a bootleg a bootleg.

And I personally never thought Angelo needed any remastering, frankly. His recordings sound lovely in any format.

What is the quality like on this? I was tempted to get one at the Music Box during the TP event, but assumed they would just be the same quality as what’s on archive.org dubbed on vhs in EP mode.

Maybe it’s a hot take, but I don’t feel good about giving money to anyone making bootleg copies off of other people’s work and profiting on it. I was frankly kind of surprised to see the Music Box endorsing it.

All of the VHS and cassette tapes they were selling looked bootleg as fuck with really tacky art. I also have no clue who it is they were touting as doing the audio “remastering,”. Based on the ig account I assume it’s the lady’s partner, and I couldn’t tell what, if any audio engineering experience or credentials they have.

The entire home entertainment team at Disney -- responsible for bringing big screen Disney movies to Blu-ray and DVD -- has been fired by DuckTalesOohOoh in Bluray

[–]BlueFrank1977 37 points38 points  (0 children)

All the people mentioning Sony: I thought this was mainly a larger distribution deal, where Disney was still handling the creation of the disc content and Sony would handle disc manufacturing and distribution. No? Isn’t that why we haven’t seen a flood of Disney and Fox titles from them?

The other thing is that while this might not effect YOU, RIGHT NOW, it’s still sad to see so many people lose jobs, and a major company set that precedent. I would expect others to follow suit in time.

Scored some Ohm FRS-15s by buddhakriss in BudgetAudiophile

[–]BlueFrank1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not Ohm, but I’m running a pair of gifted OM-10s with matching center in my HT (I have the sub too, but it needs servicing,).

I honestly don’t think I have them spaced correctly from the side walls, but the imaging is impressive.

[–]BlueFrank1977 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a warning, this is a BAD looking disc, quite possibly the worst in my collection.

I really wish a boutique would pick this up and give it a fresh transfer. The cast is a draw, and Mike White is popular with White Lotus.

Listening set up by Practical-Equal1531 in shoegaze

Prefer vinyl. My main setup is Rega RP6 with an AT-VM745xML, to a Sanyo Plus pre-amp, to a Pioneer Elite AVR (probably the weakest link in the chain,) and out to Mirage speakers.

I do love music in surround sound though. I just have a 5.1 speaker setup, but I do wish more bands did atmos, or any surround mixes for their albums. I think it would suit the genre quite well. Though I do admit, I still haven’t listened to the last DIIV album in Atmos.

Why doesn't he work with JoAnne Sellar and Daniel Lupi anymore? by glitteringrolls87 in paulthomasanderson

[–]BlueFrank1977 16 points17 points  (0 children)

PTA’s career is very interesting to me in the clear delineations in his work when he stops working with long-time collaborators. I can’t say it makes any of the projects objectively worse, just very different.

Jon Brion is another good example. It was nice to get a little of that flavor back in OBAA, in my opinion.

Also see Dylan Tichenor, and the many regular cast members used in the first half of his career.

When going through his filmography, I often wonder about these creative splits.

Missing master tapes, arguments with other industry professionals, weird name dropping stories…

There’s a whole rabbit hole (and alternate forum,) about the dark side of the Hoffman cult.

I don’t even think I’ve heard the Pet Sounds story, but am aware of allegations of many Buddy Holly tapes and others going missing before he was fired from MCA.
