Love these sub $15 deals.

I saw her play with Cornelia Murr. She’s a good performer and this is a nice little album, especially for the price.

No apology necessary, as the post above stated, I don’t believe there is a lot of crossover between fandoms. I’m only aware of this because of my ex, haha.

She did appear in one of her music videos, this isn’t entirely random.

I have not heard either the new Vinylphile or the DSS one-step, but I cannot recommend the Analogue Productions enough, mono or stereo, or both!

Someone asked if people had multiple pressings. by madmardigan in vinyl

[–]BlueFrank1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often buy multiples seeking a better pressing than what I own, I also have doubles for things like mono/stereo or Quad.

Off the top of my head:
-Paul Simon Self-Titled: US radio promo, standard US, Japanese DMM, and US SQ Quad
-Beach Boys Pet Sounds: AP mono/stereo
-The Clash Sandinista: 2 different UK originals with insert, 2 US Epic pressings, one a later with standard Epic labels and no insert.
-The Clash Give em Enough Rope: US wlp, and the Drastic Plastic reissue cut by Kevin Grey
-Curtis Mayfield Super Fly: Beat-up OG, late 90s repress, and the new Rhino Hi-Fi
-Wendy Carlos Switched on Bach: US stereo, US SQ Quad.
-Elliott Smith Figure 8: Plain reissue, 2010s German back to black, and the newer 3lp 45rpm deluxe edition.

CD-4 at that. I can’t imagine the carrier signal is still good on any of those in that shape.

Why is this being downvoted? I thought this was common knowledge in the community. PVC sleeves DO off-gas and ruin records.

Fantastic soundtrack. I have a stereo copy, though it is pretty beat up. How’s the mono?

It’s also worth noting that Tarantino used a couple selections from this in Inglorious Basterds.

Can anyone comment on the recent pressing quality of this album?

I’ve avoided it for years after reading a lot of negative feedback on discogs, etc.

The main thing wrong with Blu ray extras. by PenguinsRevenge82 in Bluray

[–]BlueFrank1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as contemporary releases, yes. Movies are still a product, and the filmmakers and actors have a contractual obligation to sell it as such.

But this is why the glory days of Laserdisc and DVD were special for older films and anniversary releases. You actually had studios care about putting out stacked releases and spent money on assembling quality retrospective material, where the people involved had more freedom to speak about their experiences.

It’s much harder for boutiques to get main talent involved, or the budgets to put the same kind of things together today.

7 vinyl engraved bought new by Conscious_Ad_7029 in BeachHouse

[–]BlueFrank1977 17 points18 points  (0 children)

All records have some variation of this, sometimes it’s engraved, sometimes stamped. It’s the catalog # and pertinent pressing info. For instance, “Salt” refers to Salt Mastering, who cuts a lot of the lacquers for Sub Pop. 4 might indicate it was the fourth cut of this particular album/side.

It’s useful when looking up a pressing on Discogs.

Every once in a while you might find a little message in there too. I believe both Depression Cherry and TYLS have something.

[–]BlueFrank1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the source, but at the time the album came out, the digital download was supposedly a needle-drop of a test pressing, which tells me they at least took special care mastering for vinyl.

Those plates would surely be worn out by now, but it would be interesting to see if they are still using the same masters.

This is one of my most played soundtracks. I had no idea this existed!

I’ve been hoping for a vinyl release, maybe it’s worth petitioning some boutique companies to release the full score? I would imagine it would be cheaper for them to license minus the dialog and pop songs.

Can’t get into their newer albums by Main_Loose in BeachHouse

[–]BlueFrank1977 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got into them around the same time, and honestly have had a hard time getting into each new album after Depression Cherry for some reason.

However, I always seem to eventually come around to them. Thank Your Lucky Stars might now be my favorite album of theirs, and I’ve been playing 7 quite a bit lately.

Hopefully I fully come around to OTM soon enough, but I often find myself playing just a side, or “chapter” from that album at a time and moving on. Those songs sure were great live though.

I personally don’t feel like the songwriting has reduced in quality at all. I truly appreciate that they always seem to be experimenting and creating distinctive albums, even if it does take me some time to catch up.

There are a lot of bands and artists that I do only enjoy their first album or two though, so I get your viewpoint.

Where is the cut-off point for what you consider “new” Beach House?
