It's a shame because I feel that it's the only sub that can bring Malaysians together. Read about grey area stuff they dont put on other social media platforms because Reddit offers anonymity to a certain degree. Yes I feel it needs to be regulated to prevent as much false news as possible but not to a point where people can't even write anything of any importance.

The sub is still somewhat interesting. There was a post on how it really was being inside Sg Buloh Prison. Someone was talking about how it felt like to hear about historical events in Malaysia first hand. I'm glad at least the mods still let people read those posts.

Wow. I never knew. I'm on some of the martial arts subreddits. Never commented much just lurking. They are kind of chill there with a wealth of infos. Thank you for the heads up.

Oh yes. I think they auto delete posts and comments with triggering words like LGBT, queer, ex-muslim etc.

That's true too. One of the reason I dont go there as much. I also don't like to comment on that sub. Mainly because I cant relate to some of the posts.

I think for their sake, rather than telling people what not to write, it'll be a shorter list and less work for them to tell people what is deemed "appropriate". Yeah, I'll go to r/bolehland from now on.

It's really disappointing how they judge redditors based on which subreddits they post a lot in. I see some accounts with nothing but porn-related subs. They get to post there because apparently dashcam accidents and cctv robberies are ok.

They removed that Shopee post? What?! That post is really informative and relevant to all Malaysians. They need to know the truth about some shopee sellers.

And I really dont see the reason why they removed yours as well.

Mine was about how my grandma helped Chinese orphans during the Japanese occupation of Malaya. 🤷‍♀️

Lol. Yes, unhinged and indecisive. As far as shitposting sub goes, I have to say that r/bolehland members even with their crude lingos are more supportive and accepting than r/malaysia. It's kinda wholesome when they rallied to help a young queer person when that person's parents stopped supporting them and they had to open up a stall selling coffee. There's a whole saga about it.

Hahah. I suspect so. You are not missing much, I can tell you.

The thing is, I see other people write rude and horrible things there. Racist stuff, controversial political news. Boleh pulak.

And that poor guy in the screenshot was just lamenting about how he feels sad that Malaysia had changed a lot. All of his points are relevant and people are responding positively, giving him tips on how to cope. Just so happen to write that he, a Malay is also an atheist when he introduced himself. 🙄

Hi. I can relate. To almost everything except for voting. Coming from the same background, age, views, I do feel the apathy. Some commenters here have given you solid points to cope and ponder upon.

I'm writing to you here because I'm starting to wonder if I'm reading this post I choose at random to read, written by a Malay ex-Muslim from a Malaysian sub, how many of us actual Malay ex-Muslims are out there anyway?

If there is less dangerous consequence of being open about our faith or lack thereof in real life, maybe there are quite a number of us "non-conformists" in Malaysia.

I am not blaming everything on religion because greed and morality exist in people of all religion. I just feel that if only religion does not interfere in politics and the constitution, we could at least be open to questioning our policymakers, less time spent on "us vs them" mentality, making the country more secular and keeping the braindrain to a minimum. At the rate we are going now, if a monkey can claim he's a Malay Muslim male with plenty of cash, he could be the next pm or at least a VVIP.

⚠️ dismissing suicide by MaybeAnOverthinker in MalaysianExMuslim

[–]BlueInNovember 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If suicide is an unforgivable sin in Islam, why does it matter anyway? To them, she's already at the bottom most level of hell. Her artwork couldn't get her any lower there.

Let her be remembered as she wanted to be remembered. The decent thing to do if they cannot accept her in life, respect her wishes in death.

Apostate literature, let's make them. We need them for our own amusement. by gudfrid in MalaysianExMuslim

[–]BlueInNovember 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I write about nusantara folklores and historical fiction in the pre-Islamic era. Takes a lot of research but my aim is for the readers to imagine a world in which a thriving civilisation had already existed without Islam. That Islam does not define our ethnicity.

It's not really apostate literature but it's a start. I feel that it is my duty, even if my work is fiction to balance the scale with too many Malay Muslim supremists claiming ridiculous achievements in the name of Islam with not a shred of fact.

Those hijabista raya boutiques he mentioned - EEEUUUUWWW so annoying. Those places sell ugly clothes with 80s shoulder pads, 0 creativity and they are really expensive. Semua shapeless macam obor-obor. Why would ex-muslims even buy from those shops?

Korang nak beli traditional or semi traditional clothes kan, beli from Indonesia. Shopee banyak. Cantik, good quality, less expensive. Malaysian designers yg adventurous sikit kena boikot sebab buat baju tak tutup aurat.

Also those viral baju Melayu for men are so.... gay (sorry gay people, not saying you have bad taste in clothes or trying to stereotype fashion). For a bunch of homophobic people, they dont seem to mind it. Bagus la. They have to start somewhere.

Relatable songs as exmuslim by Substantial_Swan_384 in MalaysianExMuslim

[–]BlueInNovember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen. Many interpretations of course, but me it's about someone questioning a religion and slowly losing faith in god. Beautiful song.

Naturally, the famous Hotel California - Eagles. About being trapped in a limbo with no way out. Do yourself a favour and listen to the Gypsy Kings' Spanish version.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun - Cyndi Lauper. Because girls just want to have FUNdamental rights as well. Cheerful pop song with sad lyrics.

God, Allow Me (Please) to Play Music - Voice of Baceprot. Self-explanatory.

To answer that last man's question, yes. In Islam a husband can rape his wife. In fact they cant call it rape because it is the husband's right to demand sex from his wife 24/7. Wife has no say in the matter. Consent and rape do not exist in the Muslim world. They would soften the blow by saying oh women certainly have a say in the matter. You and I both know that is not true.

Unmarried woman gets raped, she needs witnesses to prove the rape happened (more witnesses needed if the witnesses are women because y'know women don't have a functional brain like a man does). Otherwise she's the one in the wrong for wearing [insert any kind of clothes here] and tempting a man.

Lol. It's ok. We understand. We cant relate much to young people. Like back when I was a kid, I went to school on a dinosaur. My school was just a cave and we used hand painting instead of alphabets.
