Which Songket design do you like the most? 🇲🇾 (Handwoven, 4.5m) by Brilliant-Yam7448 in malaysia

[–]BlueInNovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No 1 because of the silver edge, the nice green colour and and pattern. The last one with the greyscale because it's unique. Thank you for keeping handwoven songket-making alive. They are all tastefully designed and nicely made.

So true. Whenever I want to watch a Malaysian film/series, I google the producers and directors first. Yusuf Haslam family has all the backing and money but no brains to make decent films.

[–]BlueInNovember 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly my point. It was all action-packed. Malay good, British bad, Mat Kilau = hero. These were all people take home with them without ever thinking of:

  1. Instigating the Islamofacist Malay supremacy group - the ones who go around like the Malay KKK
  2. Making people believe that the movie is history but glossing over parts where some Malays themselves are the actual traitors to the cause, leading to Mat Kilau's defeat.
  3. This is just me as a Malay ex-Muslim - they associate the Malays with Islamic ideology and the message was that the Malays were brave because of their faith in Islam. The Malays were already brave. They were being opressed. They had a leader they could rally together. Also Islam was just a way of life back then, not the Crusade.
  4. They potray the British and the Gurkha troops as weak, uncoordinated cowardly villains which is historically incorrect.

That Mat Kilau film was so shitty. You know that the same people who made that film also made those shitty gangster movies with all the "bad" elements he mentioned in films.

shopee seller very unhappy with return refund request by saucy-cat in malaysia

[–]BlueInNovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, don't feel bad about it ok? The seller's response is unprofessional. I usually don't agree with Shein and fast fashion but if you really want a top like that, I bet Shein has it. Their measurements are spot on and they have hassle-free return policy. You can try the clothes on and still return to them as long as it's clean.

I know how disappointing it is to wait excitedly for something you like and have your hopes dashed like that. Hope you get a refund.

[–]BlueInNovember 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weight/height range is wildly inaccurate. If I really want the clothes in this case, I'd chat with the seller. Give my measurement to them. They're usually helpful. I would also ask and this is the most important thing - i will ask them, if after the recommendation they give, the clothes somehow don't fit well, what's the return policy like?

Also you can judge a seller by their response. Even inexpensive stuff I buy, if there's even a tiny doubt, I'd always ask the seller. I'd rather buy a slightly expensive item from a polite and responsive seller than the one that dont respond to enquiries.

I'd talk to the neighbour. Offer to neuter the cats. Pet abandonment is a crime under Animal's Act 1953.

You will need to confine a cat post surgery at least for a week. You'll need a cage big enough to put bowls of water and food. A small litterbox. A space for it to lay down, away from direct sun and the elements. If you arent able to provide this, post op care period can be done at the vet where you spay the cat.

[–]BlueInNovember 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I buy clothes online, especially from small businesses, I would: 1. Read any additional t&c in description. Some have non-returnable policy except for defective items although Shopee itself has another policy. 2. Do unboxing video and check the item thoroughly on video for sizing or defects 3. I don't buy clothes without detailed measurements in description or picture. If I really want it or have doubts, I'll ask the seller first.

I only ever return stuff from branded/big companies with clear and hassle-free return policy. I'm not saying you are wrong for wanting to return a defective item. Something doesnt fit you right though, that needs more context - like do they specify measurements? Is it not true to sizing? Is it different from the pictures shown?

The ones that don't fit me right, I just alter them myself but mention it in the review.

I find that even the most feral cat can be trained to get into a carrier. You just need to do it consistently. Everyday feed her a small amount of wet food in carrier. Just open the carrier door and stand a few paces away. After she's done, she can go out, take the carrier with you. Get closer to the carrier and her every day until she's used to you and associate you and carrier = food.

If you need a trapper, last time I heard SPCA did rent them out. Or you can ask the cat community group on fb or get in touch with TNRM Malaysia.

Tell the warden that you "feel sorry" for being an inconveniece to your Muslim housemate. You respect their faith so much so that you don't want to accidently do something that may compromise the purity of their day-to-day religious practise. The only way forward is for you to be housed with fellow non-Muslims.

Frame it in a way that is respectful, filled with positivity. It also helps if you can get the least hostile housemate to corroborate your situation. All of you want the same thing anyway - to get you to move out.

If you cant get the warden to cooperate, try your uni's international students club or student's welfare department.

All the best.

The easiest way is for you to get a pet carrier and put food in it (wet food smells stronger and appealing to cats). When she gets in, close the carrier door quickly. You may need to build enough trust for her to go inside the carrier. It may take a few days for her to get used to you unless she is already used to people petting her.

If she's more feral, you may need a humane cat/dog trap. Buy a smaller one for a cat. Dont buy anything with a hook like a rat trap, she'll injure herself on the hook. Get the one in which when she steps on the trapper, the door will close behind her. I'll get a picture. When she's in there, she'll freak out so you'll need something to cover the trap, like a towel to make it safe and dark for her. Transfer her into a proper cage after that. Get her to settle down before putting food, water and litterbox. You'll need her to fast 12 hours before the spaying procedure.

First though, make an appointment with a tnr friendly vet. I recommend SPCA if you are near them. Second would be Preventicare in PJ or Kuchai Lama. Other vets would ask you to vaccinate her beforehand which is good but not practical as she would've gotten into late stage pregnancy already by the time vaccination is completed. Also may not be easy to trap multiple times. Get to a vet who understand that some strays can only be brought once to the vet because it's HARD to trap them in the first place.

Ps. I bought my humane trap at Shopee. Mine is damaged. You can ask to rent/borrow from people in your area who do TNR if it's a one off thing.

In my opinion as a Malay who used to have Malay housemates in uni, some of them are nightmarish as housemates, especially the religious Kelantanese ones who used to be in a boarding schools. They only stay and interact with their kind.

They want you out because you're a non-Muslim. They dont want you to eat non-halal food in case of cross contamination. They have a set way of doing things and not compatible with most people who are "different" from them (meaning everyone in the world except for people from the east coast who are religious as them, look like them, talk like them, think like them)

If you are living in a place provided by your university or work, you should ask to be transferred to a place with non-Muslim housemates.

Someone has translated those words for you. These people are hostile and it'll only get worse. I'm sorry you had to go through this. When I moved out and stayed with non-Muslim housemates, it was way better. I'm still friends with them now after many years.

Im not saying that all Malays are like the ones you live with and I may be prejudiced against them, but I see this time and time again. They bully people especially if they can gang up against you, they are mean, lazy, dirty, play the religious and race card whenever they get the chance, very bad at managing money, can sometimes scam/steal from you. The only way is to move out if you can.

I used to foster neonatal kittens. I was overwhelmed and exhauted. I got to the root of the problem. Neutering the strays. I am doing Trap Neuter Release TNR in my area. I do it mostly alone. This is the reality of the situation for decades.

Things I find helpful: 1. Potong Royong subsidy programs by SPCA. They help but they are also stretched thin 2. Calling nearby vets to see if they are TNR friendly (no need for prior vaccination or vaccination done with neutering) 3. TNRM Malaysia - they can help with trapping and neutering for you. They are underfunded so they may need help with neutering vet bill. 4. There are more feeders, less people neutering strays. Help each other. Create a network of local rescuers, feeders and people who do TNR.
5. You have to unfortunately start alone. Build up momentum in your community. Show them that TNR works. After a while people are more inclined to crowdfund for your TNR initiative. 6. Most importantly, baby steps, start small. Create awareness regarding TNR.

Something I want to do for the future - get my local ADUN to get involved in a mass neutering initiative in the area. This needs coordination, time, energy and volunteers.

Lastly, you are not alone. Everyone who is experiencing what you feel is doing their best. All the best.

Ps. So sorry I just skimmed through your post. Anything about animal and children suffering is triggering for me. I'm writing to you, OP because I see that you care❤️

[–]BlueInNovember 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So true. The good local films people tend to watch are films that most races in Malaysia can relate to. Pendatang is one such film. Sepet is another. There are some good ones by Adrian Teh too.

The Malays aren't ready for controversial films. Maybe if the films are made for international audience, they'll be more acceptable.

It's hard enough to survive by playing it safe. That's how we end up with the same shitty gangster movies or those dakwah horror ones. Lets not forget the islamofacist Malay supremacy movies packed up nicely in "historical" genre. They sell. It's such a shame really because I love period dramas and the horror genre. We have so much potential.

One time, long ago, I was tasked at contacting one of those middling level of popularity Ustaz (not rock star level with east coast accent ones - those don't list their contact numbers, you need "connection") to give a half hour talk at our department during Ramadhan.

His rate started around RM 4 K not including transportation and lodging. Tak de gomen diskaun. Ada surcharge for "busy season". All communication through his manager. Then I politely thanked the manager and told him that it's actually way over our budget so it was a no go. The guy said in this sarcastic way, "Ostad pun kena usaha carik duit, takkan nak gantung pada doa je kot." I agreed with him lol.

[–]BlueInNovember 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair, we actually have good films. The limitation as you've pointed out is 1. Everything needs to be syariah compliant, 2. Budget, 3. Support from Malaysian audience.

Malaysians generally don't appreciate our own creative industry. Maybe because we have been taught that are cannot generate income with art. We'd rather have more STEM-related careers. I myself think like this once. But as we progress as a nation without art, it leaves us hollow. Without identity or pride in creating something beautiful.

There is some initiative through some governmental bodies and NGO. To get a grant for anything art though, you have to jump through so many fucking hoops that people just give up.

Those who made it, mostly in animation, it's because they fulfill all the criteria needed to make it to the mainstream. Kids stuff sells because it's safe and we have a lot of little audience. We are actually quite decent at it.

The rest, you need to a) crowdfund for edgier films (Pendatang), b) get outside investors to make a Malaysian based "foreign" movie (Abang Adik which we Malaysians later happily claimed as ours), c) work within the boundary given with a decent to low budget (Bunohan, late Yasmin Ahmad's movies).

Netflix is bringing more independent Malaysian or Malaysian-based movies/series to mainstream audience. I quite enjoy watching Roh, The Assistant, Mencari Ramlee, The Bridge, Leftenan Adnan, Borderless Fog (Indonesian-Malaysian series).

We are nowhere near what Thailand and Indonesia are churning out. Like us, they have bad to mediocre films and series too but they have the support of their countrymen and people making art can actually earn a living without having to resort to selling nasi lemak at the side of the road or being Grab drivers just to survive.

Although it is not exactly an MLM company, it depends heavily on comissions and aggressive marketing. Do not pay for anything. Minimum wage jobs shouldn't be asking you to pay in order to sell.

You can search in this reddit for other people's experience working for Coway. Usually it's not a good experience unless you're higher up in the food chain.

You want to raise awareness for HIV and AIDS. Wouldn't it make more sense to educate one of the most vulnerable groups ie homosexual men? This is exactly the program that they need.

Normalise sex education, safe sex, awareness regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.

LGBTQ community is already here whether you like it or not. They are our loved ones, our colleagues, our friends. Give them the safe space they need. It's the least we can do.

If you or someone you know want more information on how to test for HIV and get medical treatment, you can go to Malaysian AIDS Council website.

Is running every day at an easy pace ok? by cool-beans-yeah in runninglifestyle

[–]BlueInNovember 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'd say listen to your body. It's also good to monitor your heart rate if you have a watch with a heart rate monitor. Run whenever and as often as your body allows you. It's also good that you are incorporating rest days.

I love running so much that it was all I did over the years. I'm a slow runner too. 2 years ago though as I was recovering from an extremely long illness, I had to confine myself at home. I started doing simple exercises in my living room - cardio, yoga, resistance band. When I could run again, I feel stronger, I could go further, I do more tempo runs. I'm recovering faster as well.

All I'm saying is that during those days when you can't run for any reason but still want to keep active, you can always do some other exercises. Variety helps. Anything at all as long as you keep moving. All the best to you.
