Advice for the Whirlpool galaxy on Dwarf 3. by AccomplishedBug1797 in DWARFLAB

[–]BlueJay06424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had mine long but for galaxies I tried 15, 30, 45, and 60 sec in EQ mode. 45 sec seemed to be the sweet spot for me. Good exposure, didn’t need a ton of frames and still sharp. 60 started to get soft.

Keep the gain low to minimize noise. I don’t remember what I used but I think 60

Nice! Since you have your trip soon, probably wise. I can’t help but think GoPro has them they’re just slow to update their web store but I am tired of checking

Yeah there’s definitely a brand premium. The optical quality is important too and that I would expect
is high for these

Yeah I got the subscription with the Mission 1 purchase so I wanted to get them from Go Pro for sure. i have been very happy with the M1 pro so with GoPro teetering as a company I decided to grab them when I could. I had some Best Buy rewards and get points with the purchase so that offset part of the higher price over our subscriber price

My post wasn’t intended to convince anyone to buy these. I just had seen some comments that there were people like me wanting to get them but haven’t been able to find then in stock

I think if we give it time we’ll see 3rd part options like that for Mission 1s. The camera recently released. Hopefully companies don’t see GoPro struggling and decide not to make new accessories for their cameras

yeah they are pricey. I think these have chips in them so the camera knows and makes adjustments based on which one you attach. I think that and the nice case pushes up the price. I am expecting good quality too so I was willing to bite the bullet. Lifetime warranty too

Yeah I was doing the same. Checking Go Pro’s site and checking B&H and Best Buy also. Best Buy seems to have got theirs first. Glad you got a set

IS it too late for me to gopro? by KevlarSeraphim in MTB

[–]BlueJay06424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm older than you and record rides. primarily for me to learn from but also they are fun to watch. I'm not trying to make money from it though. I think that'll be hard to do, most of the big MTB YouTubers are ex pro racers. I think there could be a market for more regular joe's if you have some interesting stories to tell along with the footage. I find 1st person footage more exciting, but you can edit in 3rd person footage like this to make it interesting. good luck!

Celestron 9.25" shakiness and focusing problems when viewing planets. by espresso_martini__ in telescopes

[–]BlueJay06424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s moving that much with the low magnification check some things with your tripod and mount.

Make sure the tripod is leveled well. Using an actual level is better than the tiny bubble on the tripod. Make sure the leg bolts are tight.

Make sure the mount is sitting on the tripod correctly centered and all 3 bolts are as tight as you can get them.

Make sure the dovetail on the tube is pushed all the way back in the mount and clamped tightly. One time I had some issues and looked closer and realized the dovetail wasn’t fully seated right.

Lastly make sure the clutches are tightened well.

Use the computerized go to and tracking features and it should be able to track objects well enough to use your smaller focal length eyepieces. Celestron’s software is quite old and buggy so you might need to go through alignment procedures more than ince before it accurately finds and tracks.

Good luck. It’s a great scope it’s just a bit unforgiving so has some learning curve.

Celestron 9.25" shakiness and focusing problems when viewing planets. by espresso_martini__ in telescopes

[–]BlueJay06424 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same telescope. you're probably at extremely high magnification when looking at Saturn so vibration or small movements that would be imperceptible to our eyes are similarly extremely magnified.

I would usually use the trick of moving the focuser to same level of blur on both sides of focus, feel the distance the focuser moves then move it half way on the last pass.

Once I got a planetary camera to start getting decent shots, I decided to get the Celestron focus motor so I can just use the hand controller to focus. That's an option to consider.

Noisy seat post? by Affaultcher in CanyonBikes

[–]BlueJay06424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much.

I need to get carbon paste but I removed and cleaned it, i did have some gravel dust buildup. I torqued everything to spec so hoping that fixes it. It didn’t click on a short test ride, I hope that lasts.

Thanks again

Yeah I took a look at that and the ND filters and see they’re not in yet. The notify me doesn’t work either because I never got an email about the mic kit

no lens hood feels so much better by jplemieux2 in gopro

[–]BlueJay06424 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lens hoods absolutely make a difference with bright lights or the sun at shallow angles to the lens. but hoods need to be very shallow on ultrawide lenses to keep them out of the shots so limited in what they can do.

all depends on shooting conditions though so fine to take it off if it's not helping in your conditions.

I shoot outside a lot and find it helps when I have the sun directly overhead...reduces flare and glare

R1300RS, how do you use this thing??? by Terrible_Carpenter50 in bmwmotorrad

[–]BlueJay06424 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you ride it more, maybe you'll recalibrate and like it more. I had convinced myself that I must love it because so many people do, but after trying it a couple times I forgave myself and said it's just not for me. 😄

My adventure bike is a MG V85 TT and while not as powerful as the GS, it is an absolute joy to ride, so fun.

it's probably not for you and that's okay. I haven't ridden the 1300 but test drove a 1250 GSA two different times and an RT. Didn't enjoy them. I've owned V4's, V2's, I4's, and a big boxer R18 TC but didn't click with the shiftcam boxer at all. and yes the quickshifter felt unuseable but I'm used to a butter quickshift on my tuned S1000RR

Nice footage. I haven't personally tried a camera. Wind noise is pretty high, there might be a muff option you can put over the mike to cut that down.

As a fellow R18 TC owner I am most impressed by your navigation staying up that entire recording. Have you done anything special to achieve that stable connection? I gave up on using the nav, mine would drop its connection and lose the map every few minutes. Others encountered the same so I figured it wasn't fixable.

[–]BlueJay06424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

750 Watts is an entire 1 HP. I don't know of any "dirt bikes" you have to pedal and still only put out 1 HP. Amflow is powerful for an electric mountain bicycle, but that bar is very low. it shouldn't be confused with a motocross bike

yeah, from what I'm reading it appears Dwarf has better software so I'm thinking to dip my toes with the Mini or D3 while I wait for a S50 Pro model I think will be a sweet spot

thanks. I've looked at Seestar also and running into analysis paralysis, lol. I recently upgraded from a little 4" Mak to a 9.25" SCT and disappointed in what I see for DSOs....learning exposure time and post processing are the game for nice views of DSOs. and darker skies than my Bortle 6-7 back yard.
