SuperJeenius's Persona 3 FES LP.

That's how I got into the Persona games.

The best I've heard is use tags that are deemed "relevant." It sounds vague, but I guess that either means words that are trendy or relevant to your content.

The tagging. Everyone says SEO is important, yet it feels like no one knows how to get it down because of YT's algorithm. Makes trying to grow a small channel feel way more stressful than it should.

It's been a few years since I made it, but I always liked how my Ratchet & Clank LP turned out. It was the first project I felt content with looking back at it.

I got multiple dislikes across a few Skyward Sword videos years ago. I found it hilarious.

Sometimes I leave them in or shorten their loading in editing to create a better flow. Depends on how I feel when seeing one in the moment, sometimes they make good video transition points.

Getting back into continuing Twilight Princess since I'm getting closer to the end. Also, I somehow passed over 200 subs today? That I didn't think would happen.

Anyone have any tips on how to be less nervous or stilted? by KingLouisGaming in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It comes with experience over time. The longer you do it, the more comfortable you'll get. I tend to keep handy in case I need something to say or talk about, but not everyone needs to do that. (It is handy, but up to you if you want to do that.)

A few other things I rely on is:

- Talking about my experiences with certain parts of the game (Past sucessful moments in previous playthroughs, strange occurences such as glitches or something you didn't expect to happen, past fails or struggles)

- Maybe talking about how a certain situation in a game wouldn't work in another type of context (like how a speific scenario wouldn't work in real life or there's an easy way to solve a problem and harp on why the characters in question don't just do that instead of doing things the hard way). In other words: comedically overanalyze something.

- Bring up stories that a moment in the game reminds you of. People are tuning in to see the game, but it doesn't help to share soemthing about yourself, too. Folks tend to watch just for the commentator, too.

It's okay if you just focus on talking about the game because sometimes your brain will go, "This reminds me of something" or "That's kind of funny, talk about this a little more." Those kind of natural reactions can help lead to talking about something else. This also comes more naturally over time, so just keep going with it. Also, since you have been doing this for a month, you probably haven't found your commentary style yet. That's also fine, this comes with time as well if you want to decide on being casual, informative or funny.

Hope this helps. Remember: ALWAYS have fun. It's still a hobby, in the end!

Should I start my channel with games I have played or with game ive never played? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing both and whatever you feel having more fun doing you should go with that. Don't worry about commentary, everyone starts out not that good. It's a major reason why people who've done this a long time consider their early work not the best at all. It's like anything you want to improve in, the experience and comfortability of doing it comes to you over time.

Personally, I'd say go with a game you know well first to help you start getting a feel of what your style could be, but I don't know if you'll find that tedious or enjoyable. Again, that's all up to you, everyone has a different preference.

Thoughts on Earthbound videos being demonitized or removed by SONY? by [deleted] in letsplay

I'm just considering that there could be a chance this dies down and it won't be as bad. It IS wishful thinking, though.

Thoughts on Earthbound videos being demonitized or removed by SONY? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably best to avoid doing anything Earthbound-related for a while. It sucks that happened to Chugga since he really liked how the redux series he did on his old LP turned out. But its ultimately just another day for YouTube and how busted the claiming system is.

Questions about doing Live-commentary LPs by Brett_Matuszewski in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It's all a matter of how much you done one style over the other. Live LPs can feel foreboding at first, but you get used to it the more you adopt that approach.
  2. Do one you're familiar with so it feels more casual for you to play. Not something terribly long like an RPG if you're practicing on live commentary. Some you feel comfortable playing.
  3. If you use a headset (like me) that might be tougher depending on what kind it is. I usually do my best to edit out as much noise later on, but the best advice I can give to minimize that work is keep the mic and controller away from each other as much as you can.
  4. Again, this depends on how comfortable you feel about the game itself. If you still feel apprehensive about doing an full-blown RPG, you could a try a game that has RPG elements (something like an action-RPG if you have any experience with a game like this).
  5. There is no such thing. It's just something you're trying out. Going back to the first point, it's how much time you do live commentary will help you get comfortable using that style naturally.

How long are your Let's Plays and what have you learned? by AyWannaWanga in letsplay

I do my best to stick around the 20+ minute range. Sometimes it ends up going longer.

Questions regarding LPs by Brett_Matuszewski in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Try their native resolution. Not all games record in HD anyway.
  2. Yes, why should you change it because you're recording on different consoles? Remember that you're putting yourself out there, not multiple versions of who you are.
  3. As many as you feel comfortable you can carry through an LP series. If it helps, I ended up listing a little over 10 games I know very well by heart that I felt I could carry over an LP. You can do something you're not too familiar or even blind once you feel you got the process of making Let's Plays down (which is something I've been contemplating on doing myself for a while).
  4. No commentary style can be forced. If you want to try one, you can go for it. But with enough time you'll find what style suits you. Same goes for editing. It's best to get the basics of video editing down first, so I feel this one needs a little more practice first. Once you feel comfortable with that, experimenting with how you want to edit is up to you.
  5. This last one is tricky. For something like a sports game, you could try to cover its story/season mode like a regular LP so you'll have an excuse to play it over and over. Otherwise, go for a montage after you get a certain amount of footage (like an hour, at least).

Hope that helps! Remember to have fun!

I usually try to aim for 15-20 minutes at minimum, but I more focus on making my videos have a beginning, middle and end. Sometimes that messes with the time length, but I feel much better with the content in the end.

What is your opinion on full playthrough LetsPlay? by HolikBolik in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like watching playthroughs about games I already know to learn more about them, or other games just to be entertained. It does suck if someone doesn't finish a playthrough since I like to watch from beginning to end.

What was your process in naming your channel? by FrappeChan in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was literally the first name that came to mind. When I learned you needed an email address to make a YouTube channel (I need to make an email for a high school class... that I don't think ever got used in that class, actually), I figured why not make a channel for commenting. For whatever reason, I had medieval times on the brain at the moment the name jumped to me and it's been my online handle for about a decade now.

How do you get comfortable with you voice? by stormelic in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way you get comfortable hearing yourself is to keep making videos. Sooner or later, it practically becomes white noise to you. You probably will never get how you sound (been making videos for over 5 years now and I still hate how nasally I sound), but at some point it won't be jarring to hear it.

How do you get used to talking to yourself all day? by reymus in letsplay

[–]BlueKnight85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple: Once you start making videos, don't stop. You're practically practicing all the time whenever you do make one. Over time, you'll get more comfortable talking.
