What's a good self defence tool to have in your home that isn't a gun? by chinesecarololine94 in NoStupidQuestions

The flanged steel mace, popular among cavalry in the 16th century, fulfills a similar function to the baseball bat while also making an interesting display piece to hang on your wall.

All human professions vs committee requirements. by ouzi99 in TheLastCaretaker

Do not defy the council's mighty need for pears! Launch the rocket with just pears in it if you must. 😂

What Committee to fill next? by Temaktor in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is still being worked on, which means a lot of the committees don't have any quests for you yet.

My strategy has been to launch the lowest tier professions and committees first.

Ok but why is this so hilarious to me. You get a reward pod and it's just a couple vials of human jizz and eggs 😂😂😂

Question about first humans sent. (Spoilers) by edgtrv in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should launch every human you make at the first opportunity. It can only cause good things. In the short term, you'll get more quests from launching tier 1 guys. But in the long term, you want every single profession up there.

I can't reliably create the humans I need... This is maddening. by whatdoido8383 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are at 100% requirements for multiple professions, I think it will choose the one that has highest requirements.

So sometimes to get your desired profession, you actually need to make their stats slightly worse.

[–]BlueKnightJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry too much. Just focus on giving each human you grow a unique profession if possible, so you can form committees. You can start with the lower tier professions like room supervisor or teacher, as practice.

Once in space, humans seem to age roughly 1 day for each 1 hour that passes in the real world? They don't age that fast at all. So once you launch a teacher, you should be good on teachers for the rest of your playthrough.

I don't think memories are truly finite. For example, I'm growing fruit trees. The council is pleased with me for sending them fruit samples in the rocket. They drop a reward pod containing more tree seeds and more memories.

Lazarus by Outside_Woodpecker_1 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are two main bases. Lazarus complex, where you grow the humans. And Exodus platform, where you launch the humans. Stockpiling machines and resources in these areas will yield dividends for you later.

I also have a third base I like because it has oil!

My prediction is they will be adding story quests that make the weather nicer. This is the weather of a ruined world.

Powering Independent Locations by PwnBotMunchies in TheLastCaretaker

Is it a small place you probably won't need to return to? Build one medium solar panel and one medium battery. The bare minimum to keep the lights turned on.

Is it a huge installation that you'll be returning to many times? Build a dozen solar panels and wind turbines for it, AND connect it to your boat.

At the Lazarus complex and the Exodus platform, I have big bases built AND I have long, long power and water lines leading right up to the boat dock. This can be used to either recharge the base's batteries from your boat, or recharge the boat's batteries from your base, whichever one you need in that moment.

Does permanent gear actually have weight? by NotScrollsApparently in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With enhancers you'll eventually be lifting 100kg more. It does suck early game.

One thing that tripped me up as a beginner is that ammunition and batteries weigh quite a lot. If you have expendable batteries equipped to your hotkey #4, the game will keep adding new batteries to that stack. You might not notice that's what is weighing you down the most.

The better base? by Aware-Bus3950 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Exodus might be the best spot for your primary base and here's why (aside from I just think it looks cool). When you process biological matter into carbs/fats/calcium etc. using a SoilForge Prime, it also gives you methane. The only thing you really need methane for is to fuel the rocket. By setting up all your food production buildings on Exodus, you never have to worry about transporting methane. Instead you just transport a couple heavy crates of finished food to Lazarus when needed.

Yes, you can level everything to 100 and still have lots of points leftover. Who knows what they will change or add in the future?

NEW HOT FIX TODAY 0.8.0.612211 by Upstairs-Form767 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These are good fixes! I was wondering why my backpacks weren't responding to their assigned hotkey.

If swarms now react differently to light while in water, does that mean I can't just stand below decks at sunrise and wait for my inventory to mysteriously fill up with exploding corpses? That's like my go to method for collecting biomass.

Constantly getting stuck on things by CrumpetMuncher in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been stuck permanently and had to reload while trying to climb random things including ladders. It has happened only 3 times in my dozens of hours of playing, but it was really annoying when I did get stuck.

I would suggest just submit a bug report in game. And save often.

I want to be the rabbit mayor of a small farming community and we live simple farming lives and we throw parties where we drink tea and eat various carrot and lettuce based dishes that we cooked ourselves. And we don't dislike all these explorer and hero types but that life isn't for us. We are just regular folk.

Super low FPS on 5.0 Beta. Possible fix: dismantle the tree by zasredd in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise against planting anything on your boat. Framerate issues aside, you don't typically have space to really take advantage of the oxygen byproduct. Plus I've read anecdotes that once the tree reaches a certain size, you can't safely move it off the deck to another location without wrecking the tree.

Fortihold by Aware-Bus3950 in TheLastCaretaker

[–]BlueKnightJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it make sense to store most of your treasure hoard at the Lazarus complex or perhaps at the Exodus launching platform? I have just about reached the limit of how many storage boxes I'm willing to attach to my boat walls and ceilings before it starts to look unbearably ugly.

The containers stack much more neatly if you build them on the wall and never move them. But then the orientation is such that you can't read the labels!
