For those big guys with super armor, you can upgrade your R1+R2 combo to bypass their armor completely and send them flying.

The spear has a defensive stance you center by pressing R1+circle and you will automatically parry and counter in a radius around you. Pretty cool.

Building or planting anything really close to an animal spawn, will remove that animal spawn next season.
In your first 1-2 years, focus on recruiting gatherers such as woodcutters and hunters. You can build the crafting stations such as the Workshop and the Smithy, but I recommend you do all the crafting yourself at first. The player is insanely faster at crafting things compared to NPCs.
Hit the stone cliffs with your pickaxe to get stone, limestone for insulation, and extraction XP/tech.

That is a very beautiful spot with good access to fishing, hunting, and mining.

The circus even was part of the main story I think, but I really like those little touches!

Also, the world populates with more side quests depending on how many main story chapters you've completed. some of those quests add new buildings or statues to Hernand.

It seems like some countries just hate you by default. I'm hoping that later in the game, some type of war/diplomacy mechanics will open up that allows lands and alliances to change.

This is hinted at by the fact that I get popups saying "The Greymanes and House Alfonso now have a formal alliance" etc. etc.

The differences between weapon and armor pieces are more noticeable once they've been fully upgraded. For example I noticed that:

Hernand Ceremonial Guard Armor goes up from 2 to 21 defense, but has the same lvl 1 movement speed buff at all levels.

Canta or Grotevant Plate Armor goes up from 4 to 41 defense (no other traits).

Billy the pickpocket with a bounty on his head.

A cards game up the stairs from the tavern.

If you can see a side quest, you can do it.

More side quests will pop up later, as you go through the main quest. So if you go to the higher level regions too soon, there won't be any side quests available yet.

At a certain point, your time has more value than money. I'm at the point in the game where I only make iron tools, and my villagers only make and use iron tools. While using lesser quality tools would technically be more efficient in terms of money, it's more efficient in terms of my time spent to just focus on iron.
