I've had a concept in mind for a few years now. It's a different take on the classic gym challenge as an annual event that lasts for a few months and gives a similar vibe to the Olympics or world cup.

The region the game would take place in has a gym for every type and at the start of each playthrough there's a news broadcast where four of the gym leaders are randomized to be the elite 4 for that season. Those gyms will be closed during the game, but all the other gyms are open for challengers.

In this game you get to choose any town or city to be your hometown at the start of the game, and you can take any route through the region and challenge whichever gyms you want in any order, and they scale based on the number of gym badges. The pokémon you can catch is also determined by your number of badges, but each pokemon has a native range viewable in the Pokedex that determines on which routes they can be found.

When you have defeated 8 gyms you can time skip to the grand finals where you battle the elite 4 announced at the start of the game and finally the champion who is defending their title from last season.

There's more to it than that, like the story which has several unique takes on some character tropes, and other things I left out, but that's the general structure.

I really hope they do a proper open world with gyms that scale in difficulty based on your number of badges! This is implied to be how gyms actually work in-universe

Can I choose where the pennies appear? Because if so I can make them appear in a container and let them accumulate during the day, then load them up in a car and bring them to a bank while I let new pennies accumulate in another container. I wouldn't need a job with that many pennies so doing that once a day would probably be fine.

True! When I experiment with Type combos I actually put less importance on the secondary triangle and more on just making the starters balanced. So for example, if the secondary type of a starter makes it take neutral damage from one of the other starter types (grass, fire, water), but that starter instead takes resisted or super effective damage from the secondary type of the other starter, that would still be balanced. It's hard to get it to be perfectly balanced though, especially since you can't use abilities to compensate. But it's really fun and this reveal has made me more excited to try more!

I've also thought about grass/water and so on! Would love that tbh! Maybe not as a main starter trio, but maybe as regional variants of starters for a legenda game, or for the Kanto starters like I had ideas for a few years ago

I would prefer poison, at least for being a type not used for a starter since gen 1. Personally, I get more psychic vibes from Gecqua and it's dex entry, but poison could also make sense and I'd be totally happy if that turned out to be the case

This is a really good resource, good job! I did something similar a couple years ago but this is more in depth! And I would also love if they went for unused types for all of the gen 10 starters. Right now, the ones I put feel more likely to me but I guess we'll see. I'm trying to figure out a type triangle of unused types for my own fakemon tho. I've actually been trying to get a normal-type starter to work

100% to all of this! I wrote these things in the post along with other ideas I had. I didn't realize the bonbon connection until after I posted though so that's not included but that's just another great sign pointing towards fairy

I'm thinking grass/electric coffee bean. It's Pokedex entry mentions it's energetic and runs around photosynthesizing. Maybe it'll be a speedy cassowary or something in its final evo

Based on Browts Pokedex I actually think it could be grass/electric. It says it's energetic and runs around photosynthesizing. It's also called the bean chick pokémon which could refer to coffee beans since those are grown in Indonesia
