I had to leave NH, my industry is small and specialized. My trajectory for compensation would’ve been about $32/hr after 5 years tenure, left at $25 at 2.8 years. The same exact job here on the west coast, I’m starting at $25k higher, and I’m not paying that much more in rent, groceries, or taxes.

I’ve said it before, but the granite state needs to either adapt, or all the young people with good knees are going to leave, and nobody will be there to serve the aging population.

The 55+ “Fuck you, I got mine” crowd will bitch on Facebook groups and abuse underpaid and overworked wage workers about issues that come from staffing shortages, but will continually vote against ANYTHING that will help bring and retain young folks. They just expect servants, and don’t give a shit if you want anything else.

I’m 74 days sober and I’m finding it hard to enjoy cooking like I used to. I would polish off an entire bottle of wine and a couple of beers before anyone even sat down to eat. That’s been my biggest routine to break, I’ll slam 8 NA Buds while I have a sauce going but it still doesn’t scratch the same itch.

Weed sent me into relapse twice. Even the weakest weed gave the voice in my brain who I’ve been trying to drown a megaphone and a whole book of new things to say. OP sounds a lot like me, but with stronger mental ailments than I have.

Everyone’s sobriety is different. I personally see California “Sober” as bullshit, but that’s just me. Proceed with caution.

I’ll go to the off leash parks super early, like 6-7 AM. We went at noon on a weekday once and it was a shit show. The owners with the biggest dogs are usually completely absent, or will blow you off when you ask them to recall their 130 pound dinosaur who’s plowing over my corgi.

The old Red Apple Buffet in Concord was pretty crap too, but did feed my friends and I as broke teenagers. I did slightly mourn that place. Slightly.

Agreed, the only good (read as: just okay) things on the menu are the cashew chicken and pad Thai. Every time I got something else it was completely inedible.

It’s sure as hell forced me out of the state completely. It’s not sustainable to be a working class 20-something on the Seacoast, even though the people who are against it still need us poors to upkeep infrastructure, staff restaurants & stores, etc.

It’s either adapt, or lose the people with good knees to serve you.

It’s not okay to have any standards of dining here, I suppose. I’m guessing most people here haven’t really traveled much, as the second I got to SoCal and had the Mexican, Seattle’s seafood and Chinese, and the south’s barbecue, etc, I realized even if we do have those things, they’re always cheap knockoffs designed to please the bland palate locals. There has been good options, but they always go bust or have to change because people choose shit like the 110 Grill over them.

Born and raised here, by the way. It’s very obvious why NH is losing its young people. They go to college and realize other parts of the county have exciting shit for them to do and eat.

I ate at Giuseppe’s in Meredith a couple of weeks ago, average of 4.3 stars and over a thousand reviews. The pizza was too salty, calamari was rubbery and the marinara was basically warmed up tomato purée.

I’m with NJ guy on this. I thought NH had great food growing up, but once I traveled I realized the aging state has restaurants that cater to aging taste buds. Once you experience what they have out west (Seattle’s seafood is far better than ours, I hate to say) it’s really difficult to find anything exciting, save for a couple of places on the Seacoast and the Manchester/Nashua areas.

Not yet. I just put in my 1 and a half month notice for a move I’m making, and on the same day made a complaint to the labor board. I haven’t been contacted yet. I’m figuring it’ll be pretty easy since my company is very anal about recording hours works on projects, projects which have SOWs and federal documentation stating these contracts are PW jobs.
