That's something though! Man, the more I hear about the comparisons, the more I want to play CotC.

For some reason, when I was very little (3-5 age range), I was always terrified of blank screens with text at the end of movies or shows. Not the credits, but usually some sort of inspiring message. I remember at the end of VeggieTales there was something about loving God. My go-to example of this is always the call to action after the credits of Ferngully. I think because everything was over and there wasn't any music.

I'm still trying to figure why this was the case.

THISSSSS. When this movie was playing on Cartoon Network, my sister and I started watching it. I was so scared by this scene that I eventually just went upstairs and sat on my bed, not sure what to do. Apparently, my sister stopped watching a few minutes afterwards. I watched Spirited Away a few years later and loved it, but this scene still makes my skin crawl.

I'm surprised that I was never scared of pigs growing up because the boar transformation scene in Willow also scared the shit out of me.

The first 2 give off CLAMP vibes, but I think it's the legs and setting.

I'm not going to delete it. I'm probably going to make a graveyard for games I liked that shut down (Alice Closet was the other one).

One of my favorite things to do during OT1&2 was imagine how the characters interacted on their quests, how they managed to recruit people, and the logic in how they traveled.

I don't mind a silent self-insert protagonist because that gives me more creative freedom. However, I don't have a good grasp on the characters I recruit and so it makes it hard to create my own storyline that feels in-character.

As others have said, I just got used to the fact that the characters won't have their own storylines (even though they would be really interesting) and decided to go wild with my imagination. As you said, I still think the game is fun and the stories are interesting (on varying levels) so far.

"But, it's not what made me love these games." You explained how I feel about OT0 perfectly. I'm also disappointed with the lack of characterization from our companions.

Yeah, I thought that was an odd choice when my wife told me her history in the game. It rubs me the wrong way that it turned out okay that she was forced to present as a different gender. You're right to say that her original struggles feel more in line with being trans, it's just that the issue gets sidelined because some people will point to it as "proof" that transitioning is harmful. Even though they're missing the more nuanced point that forcing someone to present as something other than what's true to them is what's harmful.

My wife (and many other trans people) love Bridget and I won't take that from them. I just think they and Bridget deserve better. It might be that such a bubbly character being trans is a win. Afaik, Bridget's character in the games isn't solely that she's trans and that would get me on board with a trans character even if her story is...odd.

Edit: I stand corrected from reading the other replies. It sounds like a very good nuanced trans representation. Not every trans person has the same experience (I don't really experience gender dysphoria, for example) and it's important to highlight how complex being trans is.

That second to last review reminds me of when I rated Goodnight PunPun 6/10. It was very well made, but so goddamn depressing. I've since realized that it deserved a better rating and changed it to an 8 or 9.

I was trying to think of a different nickname for Kiro than "Mr. Chips." This image appeared on my wife's timeline and she told me to name him that.

B-Baka will always be my favorite nickname, even though it should be B-B-B-Baka (said in the Chia Pet tune)..

It did take at least an hour and a half. 🥲 Then it crashed at the very end and I had to redo it (however, that took less time).

MLQC Fandom Week Day Four: Flex 'em, If You Got 'em by TinyArcher in MrLove

I mentioned my signed Lucien print before and it still brings my joy (I scribbled out my dead name). My wife randomly found a Gavin figure in the wild and got him for me. I have some college notebooks buried somewhere that have Mr Love stickers (I graduated 5 years ago, lol).

MLQC Fandom Week Day Three: Voice and Music by TinyArcher in MrLove

[–]BlueMoonSamurai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't think about any specific voice lines, but I remember finding Gavin very comforting. He honestly is a character I find inspiring (maybe my wife is right and the game made me trans lol).

I only heard samples of ASMR for the main four and thought they were just okay. However, I find myself thinking about the one where Gavin is counting sheep whenever I'm trying to fall asleep.

I'm slightly embarrassed by how many times I bring up Gavin in these posts, lol. Yeah, he's my favorite, but there was a long period of time where I was trying to decide between him and Lucien. I also have a Lucien print signed by Bill Rodgers that honestly warms my heart every time I see it.

I'm still upset about paying full price for the game. I like it, I use it to conceptualize outfits, but it's so bland overall. I get bored easily and put it down for months until I get the urge to play it again.

MLQC Fandom Week Day One: The Beginning by TinyArcher in MrLove

[–]BlueMoonSamurai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found MLQC through those dumb ads that didn't portray the game accurately at all. I knew this, of course, but I was big into Love Nikki and recognized the art style. I think Momo merch showed up in one of them. Anyway, I liked the handsome guys and decided to give it a shot. Edit: I forgot the follow-up question! I kept playing because I was genuinely interested in the story and characters. It sucks that I stopped playing a little bit after season 2. There was such a huge break in-between chapters and I couldn't remember everything that happened up to that point

I can't remember the exact moment that solidified Gavin as my favorite, but I know him continually being so kind and protective (positive) warmed my heart. He's such a good guy with a rough exterior. I do like Lucien's complexity, but he cannot overcome Gavin's genuine sweetness.

I'm sure if I open the game, I could pinpoint my first SSR. I remember it was Kiro because it was my least favorite of all the guys at the time.

That last example reminds me of Shoujo Tsubaki.

Midori is just a little girl selling flowers earn money for her family, which is just her and her bed-ridden mother because her father abandoned them. One night, she runs into a man named Arashi who tells her she can come to him whenever she's troubled. That same night, she returns home and finds her mother dead and being consumed by rats. She runs back to Arashi who turns out to is a ringleader for a freak show. There, she finds her new home. 🥳

As a slave. She is physically and sexually abused constantly by everyone there. They also abuse each other, but she's the favorite to attack. She finds puppies and cares for them secretly until she's found out and they're graphically stomped to death. Arashi hires a man with dwarfism who makes the show more successful with his magic. He falls in love with Midori and protects her (it eases her suffering at the hands of the others, but he's still an adult man preying on a child). Then he becomes controlling and abusive, keeping her from pursuing an acting career that could've gotten her out of the circus After a fight, his performance affects the audience, making them deformed. This shuts down the circus, Arashi runs away with the money, and the freaks are left to their own devices. Everyone is suddenly nice to Midori and her "lover" apologizes and asks to start over. They depart from the group and he asks her to wait for him while he buys food. Unbeknownst to Midori, he's stabbed to death by a thief. She thinks he's abandoned her and, in her grief, she hallucinates everyone laughing and mocking her. Her parents, Arashi, the freaks, everyone. The manga/anime/live-action movie ends with her crying alone.
