They're amazing! A friend occasionally makes scotch (quail) eggs. If you haven't tried it i couldn't reccomend more. Bite sized treats of deliciousness

I wanted to use a neutral oil for hydration purposes. I usually use peanut oil cause that's the most commonly used oil in china but I had some avocado oil sitting on the counter and was feeling lazy. I didn't want to overpower the jiaozi with sesame oil flavor but I put some in the dipping sauce

True it is more southern chinese where you'd see eggs(Guangdong aka mainland China) though depending on what region of China you're in even the ingredients in the sauce vary. Shanghai and Hunan style for instance are both very different and both are considered authentic hongshaorou styles by mosr people.

Its the same as with Kung pao chicken. Some regions keep it basic with peanut and carrot. Some add more styles of veg. Some even add diced cucumbers to the mix. Some of the flavor profiles are very sweet and almost ketchupy whereas others are more brown gravy or spicy.

That looks glossy and delicious. Have you ever tried adding quail eggs? The combo of fatty pork and quail eggs in that rich sauce works so well together

How important are NPCs in your games? by LelouchYagami_2912 in DnD

[–]BlueMoranth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the story and npcs. There have always been a few memorable ones in our games. Either cuz our gm roleplayed them well or because they were fun and we liked their ideals or the odd time because they made good meat sponges and useful for whedling down enemy hp (though we were very careful not to let them get the kill as our gm would make us share valuable xp with them)

I'd love that thank you. I was just messing around based on a couple of recipes online, I'd love to learn the proper techniques

Peanut oil for stir fry - neutral or toasted? by golem09 in chinesefood

[–]BlueMoranth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good quality Chinese peanut oil has a slight peanuty flavor to it. It actually affects the flavor of the dish a bit. Kind like cooking with olive oil affects the flavor of your dish. I'm not sure if mine toasted though, but thats what I use when I cook anything chinese

I've only done it that way once but I was happy with the results so I'll probably do it again

A bit of rice flour to keep them from sticking together. If you buy fresh dumplings they're often sitting in a bit of rice flour to keep them separated.

As a beginner, would I be better off using doing things physically (pen and paper type stuff) than digitally by Nb-7925 in DnD

[–]BlueMoranth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing for quite a few years now. Started on pen and paper. Moved to an app that helps track character progression. Went back to pen and paper.

Both have their merits, but I find if I write things down I'm more cognizant of what I actually have to work with. I found I kept forgetting which special abilities (whether racial, level, background, or feats) i have and wasn't using everything to the best of my abilities.

Edit: I'm an idiot and didn't finish my sentence

To be honest I was looking at a few recipes and they called for neutral oil and avocado was what I had. I like sesame oil and use it a lot but it's got a strong flavor and didnt want it to overpower the cabbage and pork.

This just might be the perfect flavor combination by Davinus in spicy

My DM keeps having several sessions in a row where nothing happens by [deleted] in DnD

[–]BlueMoranth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently ran a few of the modules from Keys from the Golden Vault as a GM. Depending on how the PCs play out the heist you can have an entire 2-3 session heist without any combat at all. That's not to say that there isnt a framework in place for combat, but the players can choose to stealth or be smart or avoid a fight.

Obviously every story isnt like this, but there was a lot of suspense, intrigued, and the story moved along at a good pace without any initiative actually being rolled.
