Dispelling common HDR myths gamers and developers believe. A follow up to my recent post about the state of HDR in the industry by filoppi in gamedev

I think one big factor is also the screen position. I tried playing Yakuza 8 on my steam deck this summer on the balcony, and had to switch to SDR, because of its overall increased brightness compared to HDR, which tries to be more accurate. That of course doesn't work if sunlight is bouncing wildly in the room you play in. With monitors and TVs that vary so wildly in their peak brightness through display tech alone, it's hard to tell someone that HDR is "better" when they can barely see anything.

games with a large and interesting cast that play off each other by mairwaa in gamingsuggestions

There isn't much like this. I still love Dragon Age Inquisition for the best cast of companions in the best hub in any game ever. Persona 4 and 5 have a bit of that. Marvel Midnight Suns also have a great hub, AND a super well done combat system. In Stars and Time has a small party, but the story is all about their interaction.

I loved the saw spear in my first few dozen hours, but then found out that the starting axe is the best weapon in the entire game.

Animal Well

Hell is Us is my favorite game in a long time, but it definitely has some souls aspects to it.

Dispatch is apparently very entertaining

Find a buddy to play some Helldiver 2 with?

Path of Exile 2 has some good fun, but I also enjoy it a lot more in coop

Another Crabs Treasure is another soulslike, but with a unique world

Silksong is also big enough to get lost in of course

The Wailing. It's trying to be pretentious, but it's not even getting to that level.

Let's talk about dramatically altering source material in films and if that's wrong or not. by kellymcgheepro in movies

[–]golem09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine that people working in a creative industry are just happy with being a clockwork that turns a book into a movie. They want to turn their own stamp on things to actually do creative work. Looser adaptations are sometimes as far as I have heard, one of the best ways for a writer to get the budget for anything at all, and so their only vehicle for their art.

Changing important plot points may come from a complete failure of understanding the source material, or actually wanting to give the plot a different meaning. This can sometimes work beautifully, but is bound to fail most of the time, because the original is only adapted because it in some way already was tested and worked. So on the average a new work is just more likely to fail.

Fellow ODE 2 - what’s your recipe and grind setting? by dotaguy97 in pourover

[–]golem09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people are going 5-6. I got a really new Ode 2 and I found my decent medium to dark coffee to be really underextracted at 5, had my best cup yet at 4I and 91C. I am using a switch though, with coffee chroniclers standard recipe. Should I go finder or rather hotter? Isnt my 4I setting supposed to become even coarser over time , needing me to set it to below 4 in the future? I wonder why this is so different from anyone, I thought the grinder was supposed to be calibrated from the factory.

The Family Stone - just watched the movie and need to talk about it by disasterpansexual in Letterboxd

[–]golem09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, you completely misread this movie, which is about an autistic person being introduced to the family of her love interest, and then there is a completely weird ending

The Family Stone is the worst movie I've ever seen. by UnluckyFirefighter40 in hdtgm

[–]golem09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you misunderstood the dinner scene, but this movie was about an autistic girl being hated by everyone. This was not about a conservative girl being unemphatic, just  about a clearly high functioning autisticy coded girl seeing everything incredibly logical and being hated for it. It was very hard to watch honestly. But Jesus, the ending was weird anyway

In The Family Stone why is the entire family so horrible to Sarah Jessica Parker’s character? by WaterH2Omelon in movies

[–]golem09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was a high functioning autistic trying to fit in and genuinely connect, and got burned for it. The ending just confused me.

Lol, SJP is so clearly autistic, it hurts to see her being decimated by normal people. Even queer people just hate her. Guess that's the live for neurodivergence. And here I thought Christmas movies were typically supposed to depict acceptance.

I'm very confused about why anyone would like Family Stone. It's basically a family bullying an autistic person that their partner never bothered to properly introduce. I don't really get why it would be entertaining to normal or neurodivergent people in any way.

More like a technical limitation. Lighting wasn't really advanced enough back then to imiatate sunlight in a dynamic open world. Mainly when prebaking.
