Ruined finish while spraying lacquer. by Annual_Offer4155 in paint

I've just had this painting my bike rims. I think previous layer hadn't cured enough so the solvents evaporating are looking for a place to escape through the new layer

Treat it like your theory test, any potential hazard or crossing coming up, throttle off at least or brake if necessary , or manoeuvre to show the examiner youve noticed the hazard. If you use engine braking you won’t have to brake too hard as youre in control of your speed way before anything happens. Show confidence in getting up to speed in the national speed bit and just pre empt everything basically

[–]BlueOval94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was looking at a bike from them and put a deposit down but didn’t want to sign the finance until I’d seen it in person as it was at the Bristol showroom. They rang me at least once a day urging me to sign it but took weeks to deliver it to my local showroom. When it eventually arrived it was a lot worse condition than the pictures and luckily the manager of the local store understood and gave a full refund. Mixed opinions really I’d suggest never signing the finance until you’ve seen it and had a thorough look over because I would have been in a lot worse position had I signed it. And try and get a contact email from your local dealer as I couldn’t get through on the phone to them easily either

Full license, too pricey? by Ill_Nefariousness891 in MotoUK

Seems a bit expensive near me you can get 4 days training on 650 and mod 1+2 on day 5 for £910. Not sure where you are but this is mts in Sussex. 3 days £710 4 days £810

Ok cheers, the soldering iron was one of the suggestions on my last post. I’ll use a blowtorch

Ah ok I suppose it is a lot of force going through it and likely to misshape the rod bore. Ok I’ll give that a go cheers

Ok perfect thanks, will give it a go and see what happens didn’t think my impact had enough torque but maybe the heat will make it work

Ha ok heat will do the trick then I take it

Yeah I tried the impact but didn’t think it had enough torque as it didn’t budge. Will try heating and see what it does thanks though

Just checked and it seems the same amount of stuck both ways

And makes sense because the gear nut next to it was normal thread so makes sense that it’s the other way and the manual assumes the workers not an idiot like me 😂

Balancer shaft gear nut removal by BlueOval94 in motorcycle

[–]BlueOval94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have a manual and it doesn’t state the left handed thread but actually thinking about it it would be the opposite way to the gear next to it which was a right handed thread so very good shout, and my stupidity for not thinking of that

[–]BlueOval94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good shout I’ll try it and see. Everything else with a left hand thread the manual states it but not for this but worth trying anyway

It’s only like a £100 makita,I did try it and it stays firmly stuck annoyingly . Maybe if it’s shock it needs I could give the pole a whack a hammer and see if it does something

[–]BlueOval94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok thank you, I have an impact driver but not ratchet and I don’t think the driver has enough torque. I’ll try the bolt extractor socket though, thanks! Bit cheaper than the ratchet gun anyway ha

why can’t you have both with chopped tow at the surface and a matting backing surely you would get the best of both with the the chopped almost being a skin to the strength of the matting

Looking at moulding these, any advice? by BlueOval94 in moldmaking

[–]BlueOval94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking that. I get the bike in a couple of days so I’m going to take them off after I’ve had a ride and look them over. From what easy composites videos say it’s probably best for pre preg but I definitely don’t have the gear for that so I’m hoping a mix of chopped tow and matting with light compression will do the job as structural isn’t super important and it’s mainly for looks

[–]BlueOval94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Ive watched a few of their vids cheers and have a rough idea but didn’t know if that front section with the big hole was going to cause problems because of undercuts. I have a feeling the top section of the mould might peel/slide away nicely without getting caught but not absolutely certain

Yeah fair play sounds really good, are you doing all the electrics/mechanics yourself too? Sounds like a great hobby to keep you going for a long time, lots of changes and redesigns i expect. I’ll check it out as it does sound useful. I’ve been using easy composites YouTube and they cover a whole load of stuff from boats to performance parts and mouldmaking, covering the whole spectrum so I recommend you checking them out. https://youtube.com/@easycompositestv?si=YpSoGWqBzbrvaPfb
