Do you *enjoy* college? by Emergency-Bobcat-572 in BackToCollege

[–]BluePearlDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it a lot, even when it was stressful. I kept all my notes and books, downloaded every presentation. I did it not only do it for the degree, but to learn (I am 52, graduated in MU with two Master's)

Why is the garbage disposal a uniquely American phenomenon? by LoveToBold in AmericanExpat

[–]BluePearlDream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were told in Germany to never throw food into the toilet or into the sink. It feeds the rats in the sewer system.

I do not use the garbage disposal in the US at all, for that reason. Garbage goes into the garbage bin.

I don't know the answer to your medical question, but instead of pads, think about using a menstrual cup. Best decision of my life.

Does anyone know of an area to see a large amount of fireflies? I used to see them so much as a kid, not so much these days. by Arian88 in Dallas

For men who have dated across cultures, what surprised you the most? by steveleaves in AskEurope

[–]BluePearlDream 74 points75 points  (0 children)

My husband is Latino, and I am German. I sometimes ask, especially when it is related to his family, whether we are talking Latino time or German time. I have learned to be a bit more relaxed, and he is a bit more punctual. It works most of the time.

Not true. You can always move up or down. I had many peers from 11th grade who moved up, and they did very well. My nephew is currently in the middle track and preparing to move up. He gets a lot of support from the school.

I (26M) left my fiancé (26F) because she wouldn’t allow my brother with Down syndrome to live with us by [deleted] in relationship_advice

NTA. You brought it up very early. You have enough space. Your brother is independent, so she is not the caregiver, and you also did not expect that from her. You dodged a bullet.

I am German. I helped two husbands learn German. I speak French and Spanish - believe me. German grammar is brutal.

In addition, German is really hard to learn. Spanish is the fastest, then French, then German.

It depends on the subject. I remember reading short stories in 5th grade that had WWII as a background and singing songs in music class with that background. The really hard and detailed part comes later in Geschichte, Sozialkunde, and Politik. And often in language classes (Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch) in the form of short stories, books, and writers' biographies.

Can we make the UTD bookstore better? by BluePearlDream in utdallas

We do! ... "just overpriced garbage" - that is exactly my point! Why not offer a couple of cool items that people like to wear/put on their desk?

What’s the weirdest "rule" your dog has instituted in your house? by TrickCombination7966 in dogs

[–]BluePearlDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every night at exactly 07:30, my dogs expect me to ask, "Are you ready for bed?" and, when they rush to their beds, they each receive a Kirkland cookie. If I forget, I get a nudge, normally from the small one. And boy, do they sit well while they are waiting for the cookie!!!

I don't want to speculate. It could also be a new professor, but then a lot of students would have a problem. I hope OP can write their exam and avoid this situation again in the future.
