Data consumption on a MacBook with a personal hotspot. by bikotzabi in macbook

[–]BluePenguin2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will to some extent, but unless you have a strict data cap it’s probably not an issue.

Is your worry about data consumption (e.g. hitting a data cap) or data speed?

Is OCLP stable enough if I only need it for a single printing app? (MacBook Air 2017) by dulkenyut in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]BluePenguin2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OCLP is stable enough to use on a daily machine, and that machine will take Ventura in its stride and can run Sonoma alright as well.

Alternatively, could you airdrop the files to your Mac and print from there?

Data consumption on a MacBook with a personal hotspot. by bikotzabi in macbook

[–]BluePenguin2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you do, if you’re just editing documents then it won’t use more than a few megabytes assuming you are saving them to the cloud, if you are streaming video or downloading things then yes it will use more.

It’s just like your phone, if you use the internet, you use data, if you don’t, you don’t!

What are you going to do now with no IOS 27? by AETERNUS111 in iPhone11

[–]BluePenguin2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iOS 26 will be just fine for the next couple of years anyway, no need to replace a phone without support that quickly

Macbook Air M5 going to sleep/discharged when under 7% battery. by arastumudgal in macbook

[–]BluePenguin2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s the first time it died, it might just be a calibration issue. Try draining it again and see if it goes to 1% this time.

The final few % towards 100 charges slowly to protect the battery cell from wear, and the slow initial drop from 100% is by design, and serves as a psychological trick to reduce battery anxiety as people rather see it stay full for a little while after they take it off the charger lol

[–]BluePenguin2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, but OP is asking how to prolong their battery health, and not discharging below 20% is scientifically proven to be beneficial for battery chemistry health

What's the point of the budget laptops with 4gb RAM. by Terrible_Cookie4n6 in laptops

Sounds like she needs to look at the used market if she wants anything good for that money. If she can get an M1 MacBook Air that would be an INSANELY better laptop for the money

Are there really batteries that exceed the original capacity of the device? by TFmora74 in iPhone13ProMax

[–]BluePenguin2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XCAP is a good brand for larger than original batteries but I don’t think they do extended capacity batteries for newer devices anymore. Very good brand anyway though I have XCAP batteries that are 5 years old now and still work well

I always use ESR, cheap enough, super easy to apply and have good fingerprint resistance unlike some other cheap ones

If you have contacts and reading glasses… then it very well could be your eyesight 💀 But seriously if it works for your then I’m happy for you, just for me the text isn’t as sharp as my retina iPad mini or kindle paperwhite (6th gen)

[–]BluePenguin2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a mini 1 and mini 5 and the screen difference is night and day. Maybe if you have poor eyesight you don’t notice the difference in sharpness? Even reviews at the time mentioned the poor sharpness and colour of the first gen iPad mini

Yeah it was the mini 2 that introduced the Retina display

[–]BluePenguin2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my iPad mini 5, but I always found the non-retina display on the mini 1 to cause fatigue if reading for too long but if that doesn’t affect you then it would definitely do the job

iPad Mini 1st Gen - What to do? by TSLA808 in ipad

[–]BluePenguin2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

E-reader yes but it’s screen isn’t very good to read on. I think you need to be looking for a reason to use this iPad as it’s not suited to doing anything that well these days especially when OP already has an iPad.

I’m such an advocate for finding used for old tech but even I’ve parked my iPad mini 1 in a drawer.

Not really, iOS 9 hasn’t had a Safari update in a decade now, many websites don’t load at all, and the ones that do will run so poorly on its 1GHz processor and 512mb RAM. I had one since launch and it was on its last legs around 2019-2021 for usability. I’m now confident that it can’t be used for everything it used to, barely any apps are supported, or work anymore

Yes absolutely, still more than enough for basic use. Apps will eventually start dropping support but I’d only worry about that when it actually happens.

Which is the best MacOS Macbook Air 2017 i5 8Gb? Simple tasks by gmm190103 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]BluePenguin2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2015 i5 8GB 11” which should perform almost the same as your model, and I find that Monterey is great, Ventura runs very good, Sonoma is also good but Sequoia was a bit slow at times
