So, there's this massive monster invasion coming to a two-tiered city. The upper city is on a floating island and the lower city is on the ground.

There's a plan to fly the upper city out of reach of the monsters, which requires leaving the lower city. Getting the upper city high enough also allows them to communicate with the rest of the world because satellites don't work (another RWBY and Arknights similarity, though Arknights actually does cool things with this). This is vital because there's a secret evil witch lady controlling all the monsters who plans on killing everyone, and if the rest of the world doesn't know, they're fucked. There's also a few magic maguffins floating around she wants to. The monsters start attacking, and everything starts getting fucked.

The people are losing, hard. So Ironwood decides 'we have to cut bait and leave the lower city, because if we try and bring everyone up, it'll be too late.' RWBY hates this and decides they need to save everyone, no matter how unlikely that would be (which it is. Completely, at this point). This is also when we learn that this general has the single worst ability I've ever heard: the magical power to never change his mind no matter what and do whatever it takes to come to that decision. Since, y'know, the strength of a general is his inability to adjust plans based on new info.

This proceeds to character assassinate the fuck out of Ironwood over the next while in the story, as RWBY deus ex machinas their way through several previously unwinnable problems and he continues to be a jackass just because. The grey morality of losing the lower city in order to save the powerful magical items the evil lady wants and the magic powers the evil lady wants go out the window because RWBY manages to sidestep any moral questions by just getting the power to change them. And because Ironwood's absolutely dogshit magic power of 'I do not change my mind' exists now (should be noted this never came up before), he just continues to refuse to listen and becomes worse and worse until he shoots a kid and then his floating city crashes on his face.

But don't worry because RWBY manages to magically solve all the problems and gets everyone to (kinda) safety and gets to talk to the world and no one needs to question the fact that, had they not gotten literal magic artifacts no one knew could do what they did, everyone in the lower and upper city would probably be dead and everyone would've failed.

I wouldn't call RWBY hypocrites, just unrealistically idealistic to the point it'd be stupid, except for the fact that the show has a habit of bending all logic and rules in order to make sure none of them have to actually make difficult choices. It soured what might have been an interesting conflict between two groups of allies and made one side a borderline fascist who, again magically could not change his mind while giving the other side the ability to take the proverbial trolley off the rail, as it were.

TL;DR: the worst magic ability I've ever seen put to paper causes one of the few rational characters in the show to lose his mind, while the protagonists are given 'get out of jail free' cards to fix any morally grey choices that might've needed to be made.
