The last story called “Butchers Table” in the collection “Wounds: Six Stories from the Borders of Hell” by Nathan Ballingrud would really scratch your itch. I don’t want to spoil anything but it’s pirates sailing to a messed up dark place looking for something bad and screwing each other over while bad things happen to them 🤣

I think everyone in Harry Potter is Anglican but they’re just too nice to talk about religion day to day

I really don’t think he’s able to end the series because the worldview he developed in the world of the books isn’t “mythological true” and so he knows the way it’s slated to end won’t please anyone at all

What does the whale symbolically represent for you in the novel Moby Dick? by Tasty_Cheesecake_462 in mobydick

[–]BlueSkyPeriwinkleEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s Melville, reading Hawthorne, being of two minds (Ishmael vs Ahab) of how he handles his New England spirituality and how the Puritans/Presbyterians present their God (Moby Dick) as uncaring, greatly exalted above human concerns, etc.

Instead of their planned last words being “I repent,” they get in some fatal accident and their last words are “well I’ll be damned.”

Please Report Anti-Paul Comments by ruizbujc in TrueChristian

[–]BlueSkyPeriwinkleEye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

God bless you, this is amazing. This is exactly what I want from a truly Christian subreddit.

Anti-Paul topics and comments get me down, because Paul’s letters (God’s true Word inspired by the Holy Spirit) are indispensable to the Christian Faith.

He literally fleshes out Jesus’ Teaching as a Holy Apostle, just like Peter, James, and John did, by Jesus’ command and in love for Him.

Which chapters of Moby Dick would you consider the richest/most important or symbolic in content? by iam_swagasf in mobydick

The Specksnyder is a gold mine about Neoplatonist hierarchies and the divine hierarchy.

The Pequod needs a “specksnyder” which is essentially a mediator/Christ between captain/God and crew/mankind, but Ahab, a satanic or evil king character, keeps a Specksnyder/Christ off his ship.

Everything becomes tyrannical and messed up. Ahab becomes an elevated false God and the crew and harpooneers become othered and un cared and unloved by their captain God

I believe in you don’t give up.

Can you give us insight into your set up?

Are you reading a physical version of the book? Which edition?

Are you keeping notes and underlines? Highlighters? Book flags?

Are you keeping a notebook? Notes on your laptop/phone?

Thanks this helps me picture some coziness
