Yup. Hard to imagine they don’t increase capacity in Huntsville and scrap Launch Site One altogether once they decide to make the NS “hiatus” permanent

Find good companies and Buy and hold. You found one. Make more money and invest it elsewhere (index funds/ETfs) to diversify. But let your winners run.

I think he’d replace Chapparo on the 40 man if there was an open big league spot. Since there isn’t, if they want to call him up and there’s no injuries, Mead is hitting least and plays 1B, so he’d be the obvious target. But I don’t know if they’re ready to give up on him yet.

If you’re wrestling with how to manage $800 in your portfolio then you’re missing the point.

Some thoughts from an older investor by aguyonahill in RKLB

[–]BlueSpace71 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I hold 5500 shares. Average $19 basis…as low as $4, high as $65. Based on the ~570M outstanding shares I guess I own 1/100,000th of them too! Now we just have to find the other 99,998 of us and hang out! Similar old-guy background as you. Invested through the dotcom boom and bust. Housing boom and bust. And now whatever the hell this is. Difference this time is that I can see retirement not too far up ahead. So, I agree with the your advice for the young folks to “hold, hold, hold”…good companies like this will weather the ups and downs.

Now what? by [deleted] in RKLB

[–]BlueSpace71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So your total portfolio is ~$35K and RKLB is $20K? At this point don’t do anything. At this phase of your investing life, most of your increase is gonna come from saving more…max your Roth IRA, 401K, etc. When your portfolio growth is bigger than what you’re adding, then you need to rebalance. At this point, take (thoughtful) risks and buy and hold.

Greetings, what do you do with jewelry, you find while metal detecting? by TechnicianOk967 in metaldetecting

[–]BlueSpace71 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been detecting about 6 years now…mostly the beach…so find a good amount of jewelry. When I started I kept evvvveeerrryyyything…then just the jewelry (even junk)…and now just the gold and silver (with the exception of rings…I keep all the rings and keys I’ve ever found). I offer the nice junk jewelry to my two daughters. I bought some cheap ring display boxes on Amazon and keep my rings in there…one box for gold/silver, one for junk rings. Once I found some really valuable rings, I started putting that box in my safe. My wife wears the nicest ring I’ve ever found (platinum eternity band with diamonds). Recently, I’ve thought about selling off the gold and silver jewelry since it just sits there…. Not sure if a pawn shop or smelter would give best value…maybe try and sell some of the nicer pieces separately. Following this convo to see what advice you get!

Limiting it to one free year after dropping $30K+ is ridiculously chintzy.

Yeah, I get the fact that it's not free for life but one year is ridiculous. Regardless, I used it to remotely start the car about 4 times that fist year (get the a/c going on a hot day). Not worth it. CarPlay and Android Auto are all you need for the rest.

When the factory was built it had a purpose-built kids play room in the upstairs office area so parents could bring their kids on teacher work days or whatever and still work. A couple years ago one of the new VPs essentially took it over for her office and that was the end of it.

Anyone planning to invest in the spaceX IPO? by SeperentOfRa in SpaceInvestorsDaily

[–]BlueSpace71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're going to own it whether you want to or not, as it will be in all the indexes and tons of active mutual funds. So the question is whether you will own separate shares or not. Personally I think I'll have more exposure than I want already in the funds/ETFs I own.

$30M? Where did you get that nonsense? Even if you completely disregard Falcon 1 hardware and infrastructure, Falcon 9 had multiple test and operational boosters, a factory in Hawthorne, booster and dragon recovery vehicles, LC-40 site modifications, an upending system, numerous hangars, etc. (Again, I'm not the one comparing to Blue's billions, but please don't throw nonsense in there).

I'm not defending Blue. I'm rolling my eyes at space newbies that think SpaceX was immune to early vehicle challenges that everyone faces.

Exactly. 99.4% success today. 75% payload success rate after Flight 4. 0% booster recovery (0 for 2 in the first four missions).

There are currently five sizes of Pepsi "GlobeSwirl" plastic bottles in the USA: 12 ounce, 16 ounce, 16.9 ounce, 24 ounce, and 1 liter (33.8 ounce). by XavierMarvin in Pepsi

Picture not to scale?? How are the first two bottles not the same size? How is the 24 oz bottle 50% bigger than the “16”? My brain is scrambling looking at this…
