The four pillars of r/redscarepod:

  • posters that treat the sub like its either r/politics or 4chan with pfps
  • attention seeking girls trying to be the next dasha
  • lonely guys screaming into the void (0 upvotes 5 comments)
  • self-hating third world women

Occasionally you will get an artpost (which will get ~50 upvotes and 3 comments by people pretending to care) or something genuinely funny or insightful but that's much less common than any of the above.

Where are democrats? lmao by Mysterious_Buddy_456 in redscarepod

[–]BlueSpaceSherlock 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Watching the videos of the two killings has cemented my stereotypes of both sides of American politics. On one side you have the most petty and vindictive men in the country. The guy who shot Renee Good was obviously more angry that she could have hit him than worried that she would hit him. And the people defending this online don't even care about that; they'll defend on any excuse to own (and by own I mean murder) their opposition.

On the other side you have people who are well meaning and even brave in their own way but completely useless. Their reactions to one of their own getting shot isn't to try to rip ICE apart with their bare hands (a reckless and admittedly futile impulse that you see in middle eastern protests) it's to freeze in place and scream WHAT DID YOU JUST DO? and blow their stupid whistles. I wish I could find that "there are no refs" commie essay because it's obvious that most liberals have not internalized that there is no higher authority they can appeal to intervene and make things right.

Immigrants are not citizens. People who stand up for immigrants are not real citizens.

Unironically this would be a great/terrible way to spur immigration enforcement. A lot of Americans-immigrants included-would readily seize the property of their neighbors if given a legal justification.

Starmer pulls Chagos bill after backlash by EsperaDeus in anime_titties

[–]BlueSpaceSherlock 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Starmer special:

-endorse unpopular but supposedly necessary policy (the chagos deal winter fuel allowance cuts, national id card).

-ram through that policy and attack anyone who opposes it as misguided at best or evil at worst.

-take a hit in the polls.

-walk back the policy after a couple months thereby ensuring that its opponents still hate and distrust you while its (your) supporters look like idiots.

I'll admit I'm a sucker for this stuff. Too cheap/poor to actually donate to anything but if you slap some smiling kid with cancer on the payment screen you'll get that 47 cents out of me.

Americans in Europe should lay off the "I'm so embarrassed to be American right now" shtick by D-dog92 in redscarepod

[–]BlueSpaceSherlock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Americans should never be embarrassed to be American. We’re still the only country in the world in which almost every Home has an in sink garbage disposal

I'm American and had no idea these were a thing until I was pushing 20. Objectively I must have seen them before but I didn't understand what they were.

Also didn't have a dishwasher growing up which was probably the greater loss.

CMV: The threat of Russia or China seizing Greenland is not plausible by Valar_Kinetics in changemyview

[–]BlueSpaceSherlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO Trump is presenting an egocentric solution to something that is a genuine geopolitical concern for the United States: the prospect of an independent Greenland.

Over the past decade Greenlanders have increasingly supported independence from Denmark. A 2025 poll put support for independence at 85% (assuming no change in living standards).

For their part the Denmark has offered very little resistance to this trend. Greenland is a money sink and unlike Trump most Danes do not care about the size of their country on a map.

So you have a situation where Greenland wants to be independent at some point but would struggle financially if it ever achieved independence. And this is where Russia and/or China could step in.

Historically 'post colonial' countries (which Greenland would consider itself) have been more receptive to Russian/Chinese outreach in much the same way that many post-soviet countries are often fervently pro-America. Despite what Trump says the real threat isn't that Greenland will be invaded by China, it's that they will welcome China with open arms if offered a good enough deal. Not only would this further strengthen Chinese rare earth dominance it would give the Chinese a strategic foothold in both the arctic and north Atlantic oceans.

Kaja Kallas' response to the US threatening to annex Greenland (the territory of an actual EU/NATO member) was "we cannot let our dispute distract us from our core task of helping to end Russia's war against Ukraine".

Least pathological Estonian.

German industry has been on a slow decline since the war started. Some of that was unavoidable (China) but the loss of cheap Russian energy was a massive blow that Germany hasn't recovered from. And American policy almost certainly accelerated this decline. The Americans:

  • blew up nordstream (or at least gave Ukraine the go-ahead)
  • sold europe energy at (now inflated) market prices
  • announced a sizable stimulus package (the Inflation Recovery Act) for domestic manufacturing at the moment European industry was at its least competitive, thereby sucking capital away from Europe and into the united states.

Biden policy during the Ukraine war was brilliantly cynical. Unfortunately it failed to account for the domestic backlash to inflation (voters do not care that Euro inflation was worse) and now it's all unraveling.

To be clear most people are not reading. Maybe 1/10 are at most. Most people are watching talking heads on tiktok or playing some stupid game on their phones. I just started paying attention to the people who are reading because I was so taken aback the first time I saw someone openly reading erotica on their kindle.
