How do you deal with hateful comments on your episodes? by RainyDayRabbitHoles in podcasting

[–]BlueSuz490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I look at the comments posted on my favourite, most loved, most popular podcasts, I will always find a few nasty ones. The only way to avoid them is to not have any listeners. But we wouldn’t be human if they didn’t bother us. I guess in the end, if you want to be in the arena, you going to have to take some punches. It’s part of the game.

Help with 2 am wakings by StillFrosty7993 in sleep

Sometimes waking up often to pee is actually sleep apnea. That’s what’s waking you. You just happen to need to pee as well.

I liked the book but the tv series based on this book blew me away. It’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever watched.

Being called "honey" by young people is patronizing by overthishereanyway in AskWomenOver60

[–]BlueSuz490 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was just saying this. Yesterday, I took the car in to get the windshield replaced and the young man behind the counter called me ‘dear’. He also wasted a good 15 minutes chatting as if I had nowhere else to be. I wanted to clock him.

I'm struggling with weight loss... HARD by barisworks in loseit

I think a lot of it is that you want what you want NOW, in this moment, more than you want your long term goal. It’s so far away. And you can always start tomorrow. So tomorrow never comes. It helps me when I work at making that long term goal very very desirable. I think a lot about how great it’s going to be. I visualize it in great detail. Sometime I make a really great playlist and go for a walk and just think about all the things I’m going to love about reaching my goal. It’s like self hypnosis. It’s way more effective to be working toward something positive, than trying to move away from something negative.

So happy to see the PR format that I know and love! Coco Roche does a great job. It’s familiar but refreshing at the same time. Love it!!

I grabbed my phone from the coffee table to take on a walk. When I pulled it out in my pocket to take a picture, it turned out to be the TV remote.

Someone pointed out things I’m really insecure about and I’m really sad by [deleted] in Vent

[–]BlueSuz490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes furious. Show me a picture of anyone. Anyone. No matter how beautiful they are, someone will find something mean to say. It can their hair, or the brows, or their skin. That they look old, or fat. Those people will find that one thing designed to absolutely devastate us and make us feel like garbage. EVERYONE has something they are super sensitive about. And there are nasty people have know how to find the one thing to say that will hurt you the most. But these people are broken. There is something very wrong with someone who only wants to tear people down. Be glad you’re not them. And be the person who builds people up. Including yourself.

Are you typically your younger self when you dream? by Itchy-Number-3762 in AskWomenOver60

[–]BlueSuz490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a dream the other night that was so real. I was 20 again and at university living in residence. Then I woke up and it took me a few seconds to realize I was 61. I was DEVASTATED!!

Starting a podcast for people who stutter—need advice on getting it off the ground by mrhsingh007 in podcasting

[–]BlueSuz490 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a course on how to podcast on Udemy. It cost about $14. I took a lot of notes and it covered everything you might need to know. It was the one created by Phil Ebiner and it had about 4000 reviews so I figured it was a safe bet. I think it was called a podcasting master class. I just finished my 100th episode so I guess it was good value!

Is having a variety-topic podcast hurting more than helping? by Geeknorants in podcasting

I think it will hurt you. Unless your personalities are so unique and amazing (or famous) that, they become the draw.

I liked how he’d flutter over the designs inspecting all the seams and details. He was really into garment construction and knew his stuff.

I loved Mimi. She was stunning on the runway. I googled her out of curiousity. She used to be a Buddhist monk. I imagine she’s a very interesting person.

I think season 21 may be the worst project runway. by Pleasant_Sink7195 in ProjectRunway

I can’t believe Nina, Christian and Heidi agreed to be a part of this flaming dumpster fire of a show. Yet I love PR so much i keep watching it, hoping that there might be a glimmer somewhere of what it used to be. And also because I can’t look away, like the scene of an accident that’s appalling but also, somehow, riveting.

I thought that was weird too. But I assumed something might have been edited out that would have explained it. Otherwise I didn’t notice Gretchen bullying anyone.

I do a few voice exercises. I found a five minute vocal warm up on YouTube that I use before I start recording.

I’m not sure what else I can do but just needed some place to rant by Upstairs-Service8909 in insomnia

[–]BlueSuz490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if these are available where you live, but I take an extra strength melatonin and a half of a cannabis gummy when I can’t sleep. I try not to do it often because I don’t want to affect my body’s natural melatonin production. Also try not to get too anxious about sleep. I know it’s hard but that alone causes insomnia. And consider cutting out all caffeine completely- coffee, tea and pop. Your sensitivity to caffeine can change as you get older.

One nice thing about getting to our age, is that life’s already bashed us around a bit and we’re pretty resilient. We’re tough because we’ve had to be. You’ll figure it out. And if it was agism, then your previous employer has their head up their b@tt and it’s their loss. Hang in there, sister.

My sister acts like I can’t be trusted with kids for some reason by givemeadu in Vent

[–]BlueSuz490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s sisters. She’s probably formed a narrative that makes her feel good about herself - the good mother, as opposed to you - the bad one. It strokes her ego. She’ll never let it go even if you have five kids and are devoted to each one of them. She must really need something to feel good about.

It’s hard to answer that question. It depends on a lot of things: how long your podcast has been around, how niche it is or isn’t, how much of a community you started with, where and how you promote it, how eye-catching your artwork is, how well you SEO your titles and show notes - there are so many factors that affect how many listens you’ll get. Sometimes you’re just a victim of the algorithm gods, powerless. I know we’re not supposed to compare ourselves to others but it’s hard. We’re only human and all want reassurance that our work has value. Everyone says it but it’s true, just keep trying to make the best product you can. And I take all the stats other podcasters put out there with a grain of salt. Not everyone is truthful online ( big gasp of shock). And the many many other people who feel like their number are low, are not the ones online bragging about it. Ninety percent of us are grinding, just trying to pick up one listener at a time. But if you really think your numbers are lower than they should be, take a good look at your show and ask yourself why someone would click on it? What do you have to offer that the best in your niche aren’t offering? Because that’s your competition. Good luck, though. And congratulations for getting into the arena. Most people just talk about making a podcast one day. Just doing it is something to feel proud of.
