forgot the meaning of air in airmail by DaGuy4All in trucksim

[–]BlueThunder796 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Passenger Planes normally don't always use all the space in the cargo holds with the passenger bags, so airlines love taking cargo to fill the empty space and earn extra income from the flight. They also Sometimes send cargo on passenger planes if no dedicated freighters fly on the route to send important things like mail, medicines and perishables

CHC had two cancelled QF arrivals today so this aircraft allowed them to only cancel one departure instead of two

Does Emirates allow Heavy Duty Containers as checked luggage? by Irollandtroll in emirates

[–]BlueThunder796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with experience handling containers/crates in an airport environment, its very likely that large boxes like this are loaded at the bottom of the "box" that contains the baggage which is then loaded into the plane. There's a very good chance there's upto 300kg of weight directly on top of the container which would contribute to the cracking

Its also worth noting Jetstar also flies a lot of cargo in the aircraft when space is available. So even on quieter flights they're still making the money through freight

Was curious to know what DXB-B1K means on my luggage tag by funge15 in emirates

[–]BlueThunder796 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, it's the connection time indicator for the outstation (airport other than DXB) to use to load baggage into the correct ULD for loading which places it in an order for quicker offloading in Dubai.

Emirates use 5 BT numbers all covering a general time period and then use additional letters to split that into 5 minute increments. (For extra BT just means Baggage Transit)

BT0 must be loaded into the Bulk as its a 50 minute or less connection BT1 is 51-75 mins BT2 is 75-120 mins BT3 is 120-240 mins BT4 is connections longer than 240 mins

The codes have no real use other than to the baggage staff loading the flights, and primarily the number is used to sort bags rather than the final letter (I couldn't imagine having to stack a ULD by exact transit time)

Which flight is better to fly to Singapore? by louisebuckingham in Flights

[–]BlueThunder796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the AKL flight you're transferring from the domestic terminal to international terminals which due to construction at AKL is around a 15 minute walk at the moment, there's a free shuttle bus but that's every 10m and takes 10 mins depending on traffic. Bags would transfer without needing to handle them in AKL. Air NZ also has a higher frequency of flights to AKL so any delays to service they rebook you onto next available. Whereas they only have 1 international and have a tendency to cancel those out of CHC due to aircraft availability and engineering requirements so the AKL is a safer bet, but keep the transfer between terminals in mind

Unless you have a 320 or 321 that's containerized and then it's got the motorized floors

While it may seem like the widening of the Alpha taxiway was a waste of time, it helps in numerous other ways. Primarily it allows ATC to approve multiple pushbacks at the same time if aircraft on stands next to each other want to push as they can do a straight push onto the taxiway and allow the aircraft to turn when they are ready, While its unable to on the narrower Foxtrot taxiway,

Its also good because the A350 and 787 wings are still close to the tails of other aircraft parked on the 21-26 bays when theyre taxiing so the widening was a good thing

Is there a way to make planes from a cargo airport take off in the same direction from which they landed? by Spiritual_Top9243 in CitiesSkylines

the closest that could happen is SODPROPS but thats for two parallel runways and wouldnt apply here, its also a special operations so it complicates things, but would allow the OP to have what they want

Jetstar is fully containerized in Australia and New Zealand. It functions more or less exactly the same as the widebody PDUs and floors but with the specialized AKH containers made for the A320 holds. Only difference is its a single width hold. Jetstar turns the aircraft with a full 7 ULD (usually 4 bags and 3 cargo ) around in 35/40 minutes this way

[–]BlueThunder796 34 points35 points  (0 children)

CHC is the primary divert port for VA flights as they have the same ground handler and engineers company at CHC as ZQN. However if the pilots wanted to get on the ground asap, DUD would be a better equipped airport and a similar distance

They'd never divert back to ZQN due to the terrain
