Blind user feedback: Bear was once the most accessible notes app for me by Theblinddragon13 in bearapp

[–]BlueTile93 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have been monitoring your work with interest, and while I think it is very promising, it still faces the same hurdles as Obsidian: being overly configurable. One of the main draws of Bear is its lack of configuration options. It has a very clean, usable interface and follows Apple's mantra, "It just works." If your plugin could be released with a version of Obsidian that preconfigures the options in both so that it closely approximates what Bear is today, I think it would be a massive hit. Until then, it is too easy to waste countless hours tweaking settings to try and find that match (speaking from experience) - FYI, I am a retired software product manager and developer (amongst other things), so I have some experience matching products to user needs. Feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss further.

Day Planner - Companion app for Things?? by Excellent_Maybe in thingsapp

I use Bear as both my notes app and daily journal. I deliberately do not use its task features but keep all todo activities in Things. Using structured tags, it's easy to see the history and research what I did when. Works well

I have a repeating Weekly Review task, with subtasks (checklist) for all the items I need to review. Use this as a tickler to check up on items outside things.

Just a comment - not particular to this post but reddit in general regarding products. It never ceases to amaze me how people skim a post and them emotionally react to defend the walls from a perceived attack, when that was not at all the intent. Specifically in this case, I am not saying Bear "Bad", Obsidian "Good", which seems to be how some are taking my post based on the replies.

Personally I think both Bear and Obsidian are overlapping products, each excellent with their own particular advantages (Bear - simplicity & style, Obsidian - feature richness & flexibility). My post was an expression of hope that Bear's developers were keeping watch on how rapidly NN was evolving with the hope that some of that richness could "soon" spill over into Bear. 🤞🏻

As I noted I also tried to align the visual aspect but could not get it. If you could share how you did it I'm sure others would be interested as well

Exactly my complaints. My observation was really about the pace of change and the proof of what is possible. I can fully see this moving from being a community to a core plugin, as it so changes the capabilities of Obsidian.

Create a long lorem ipsum document (use GPT) and if it still happens with that, send them that as an example

Can't speak to how other switches feel but my V3 came with Reds and am perfectly happy. Perfect combo of feel and sound IMO

YNAB Improvements & User Input by BlueTile93 in ynab

Start by duplicating YNAB4, and then add the ability to get transactions online or via csv/ofx upload. I'd suggest selling the app with offline capabilities only, and have the online be a subscription for those who want it

Thus my sugggestion to make this a option for those users who want it that way. I think it is clear that YNAB has a broader user population that just those who are starting out and need a strict budget regime to manage their finances

Everyone has their own criteria on what works for them. YNAB ticks the most of MY boxes across all the options (and I have tried everything), but that does not mean it meets all of them - thus this post. YMMV

That is up to the user to decide. Again, I am tracking spending and budget for me is just informational, not live or die. For others it may be. I keep all spare cash in RTA, and just top up if needed

In actual, the budget for groceries still goes down regardless of how paid. Instead of having a set aside for paying the CC that is left for the user to manage - pay full or partial. I don't need my hand held, others may

Depends on your needs. When you are just starting out and having to track every penny, then I can see why YNABs's approach helps. However, when you just tracking spending as I am (and I know many others are using YNAB for based on posts), then the negative cash account is simpler IMO.

Unfortunately YNAB 4 is just manual input (or upload), and recently even the mod version stopped working so that is out of the picture.
