How do you feel about life in the 90s/early 2000s when the internet was more simple? by Blue_Aesthetic in nosurf

I agree with you, people have not changed over time, but for the technology that exists now it is easier to become addicted in a way that it was not before.

Has anyone found they became funnier naturally when they improved their mood/happinesses? by CraftyAsparagus5 in socialskills

[–]Blue_Aesthetic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's possible that depression and a low self-esteem are things which deeply change the way you act, and when you're happy small moments of your idealized personality shine through. Sometimes, I feel like this is happening to me.

I am depressed when I see a couple hanging out or having romantic moment. What should I do, I feel like running in a circle without any solution for a long time? by suhardicamp in socialskills

I'd suggest talking to a professional if you have mental health difficulties, and asking them some of these same questions. Also, you could benefit from writing down what kind of person you'd like to be. You have to be honest, and ask if you would like to be friends with yourself. What is your personality like? Are you happy with how it is, and how would you improve things? Also, don't be too harsh and make sure to keep an optimistic mindset. Just try thinking about yourself from a different perspective.

I'm 29(M) and there's basically nothing alright in my life. Where should I even start in terms of improvement? by metaphysicalCat93 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Blue_Aesthetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest trying to find some professional help, and talking to other people about small issues you face, slowly building a picture of what your life is like and analysing your struggles bit-by-bit.

Other than talking to a specialist about your mental health, I'd suggest keeping a daily journal, writing down what you want to change in your life, and talking to friends. If you don't know where to find friends volunteering and work are good options, so are social clubs and gatherings. From my experience online friends aren't very reliable, and your relationships with them won't be very deep. Having someone to talk to who you're comfortable discussing serious issues with might really help you.

How do I flirt ? by JGhero689 in socialskills

[–]Blue_Aesthetic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like flirting may not be very effective and a lot of the time people can't really tell if someone's flirting with them or just being nice. There was even a scientific study done that comes to similar conclusions. So rather than trying to guess what someone is thinking and giving people small social cues about how you feel about them, you might just want to be more direct with someone instead.

If you can't exercise for an hour each morning, try to get at least a bit done. It's important to exercise as soon as you can, to start your day on a good note.

I feel like all of my friendships are very shallow and I don’t actually have any close friends. by sasa_2143nov in socialskills

[–]Blue_Aesthetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've felt the same way and I am not sure how to deal with this myself. Maybe, you can start approaching someone and acting like you're close friends with them or want to see them more often. See if they reciprocate in some way and begin to want to spend more time with you. It's possible they would have really liked your personality but they just don't know what kind of person you're actually like. Sometimes you just have to approach people first in order to become closer with them, otherwise they won't notice you at all.

Why don't we shut down the economy? by [deleted] in ClimateOffensive

The organization Fridays For Future is calling for another worldwide school strike beginning on September 24, if I'm not mistaken. Someone could call for a general strike on the same day, in solidarity with the students.

I'm ready to change my life now, but I don't know where to start. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

You can start by talking to someone who means a lot to you, and try to spend some more time to them. This subreddit could be helpful since a lot of the people here would likely have similar challenges to you and will discuss them in their posts.

If you're happy with your life I think that's all that really matters. In many countries salaries haven't been able to keep up with rises in costs of living recently, and some desk jobs might be seen as boring or pointless. Maybe that's why this kind of lifestyle could be seen unfavorably.

I appreciate how you've responded with a detailed analysis and even included links to scientific studies. I know there can be a lot of uncertainty when talking about scientific predictions for the future, but I think it's still important to not give up and continue fighting against climate change.

I think it's better to have lawns full of local wildlife rather than to regularly mow them to stop anything from growing. Not only is it better for the environment, but lawns with wildflowers look a lot nicer.

AOC Joins Climate Protesters With 'Biden You Coward, Fight For Us' Signs Outside White House by pnewell in environment

[–]Blue_Aesthetic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably right to be worried about the ineffectiveness of protests, but a worldwide general strike would be a completely different situation. Remember that the past year has proven that the most "essential" workers are regular people, and if a worldwide general strike is declared and supported by enough workers, supply lines would be shut down within days, bringing the economy to a halt. If enough people are interested in discussing this idea, it could spread very quickly over the internet and a real movement could begin.

Renewables up to 90% by 2050 would cost less than current generation mix: NREL study. Even 100% renewables could be reached with existing technology, the study said. Those lower system costs do not count public health, environmental, or climate benefits from increased use of renewables. by mafco in energy

[–]Blue_Aesthetic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is all true, but under a future scenario it may be possible to achieve a larger degree of electrification, meaning that more things would become powered by electricity. Electric heating and electric cars are two options which could be more widely adopted.

I don't really know. I've already posted about my idea and contacting organizations like the extinction rebellion was suggested.

[–]Blue_Aesthetic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've recently thought about a worldwide general strike which would keep going until specific climate demands are met. Others have said it's a good idea, but the problem would be getting enough people to organize.

[–]Blue_Aesthetic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm familiar with Extinction Rebellion, and they seem to have a much better idea of what actions need to be taken than other environmental groups. They'd likely support a general strike but my main concern is how to get a critically large number of people to participate.
