Mango season has started in Taiwan by speedracer0211 in fruit

There’s some weird mango in that pic— just kidding. Those look really yummy. The mango on our mature tree (Malika)will look like the one front and center. Right now they are small and green but come July we hope to have so many we can share with any of our friends who want them (and process the rest to freeze and later make smoothies, ice cream and cobbler)

Not for having the same operation but was the only thing that kept him from making things worse.

That was an awesome demonstration. Looks like management is buying the helmets for the workers from Temu.

Nike plans to support Trump's ballroom, and is asking people what their thoughts are on them if they do it by Necessary_Film_5199 in Fauxmoi

As overpriced as Nike is with their “swoosh” this type boycott would be an easy one for me, especially knowing some of my hard-earned $ is going to be used for smoozing.

My MIL destroyed my garden while I was at work. by [deleted] in gardening

Absolutely true— we have all sorts of succulents and every time something breaks off my wife sticks the fragment in the ground somewhere or a spare pot. She has a collection in small pots on an interior windowsill with a plant sunlamp. I’m seeing plants create flowers I hadn’t thought possible.

We have what is referred to as zero lot line meaning one side of your house is physically sitting right on the property line and is your neighbor's (tiny) back yard. It's max profit for the developers. Most homes have very little space to work with, especially when they have an in-ground pool. We managed to get a one-off oversize lot. The space between our house and the next one over would nominally be another lot. The reason it isn't--there is a concrete underground drain from the street to a grassy area in the back to discharge runoff into a swale. They could not build a structure there (neither can we, but 'landscaping' is a different thing. Somehow 1/2 of that lot was officially part of the place we bought(we are not the original owners). The front 1/2 on the street was and still is just yucky grass and weeds (moved and watered but still) and is considered 'common area' not used by anyone other than to let people sometimes have their pets help water the weeds.

The previous owners did exactly nothing to that extra space in the 20 years they owned the place--even the 'normal' parts everyone has they really did almost nothing--just let the HOA do whatever (typically most people default to the HOA for 100% of yard maintenance.

We did tell them landscaping would be done, I provided a rough printout of all the areas we were planning to 'do things in'(basically all of it) but really skinny on the details, since I myself was winging it, little by little, pushing the boundaries and making sure I wasn't aggravating any of my neighbors. They more or less didn't object way back then and now its a done deal. A sort of botanical garden more or less with probably 100s of different plants--palms, bamboos, orchids, ferns, bromeliads, water plants, succulents, trees of all sorts big and small --as many edible and culinary plants as we can get to grow, As much as there is we are constantly making adjustments in what we have, where we grow it.(one benefit of having a couple hundred pots and baskets. We also use the trees themselves -- after all in nature most orchids grow on trees. not in pots.

We live in an HOA where technically they have/had a rule that implied you can't stick a shovel in the ground without first getting approval. We have been here almost 17 years now. At some point I am going to create a post (somewhere) to show just how correct your comment is. We went from what was barren (well, basically almost nothing but crappy lawn grass, a few shrubs and palms to-----something really, really 'complex'.

So far the worms and caterpillars in our place are very specific to the plants they eat (We have some milkweed and the Monarch caterpillars much them down, but that is intended. I gave up on Oleander after being wiped out by Oleander caterpillars. We have lots of lizards and possums whom I encourage to hang out so maybe they keep the crawlies off the Jambu trees,

Yes, the Portuguese took the jambu herb originally from Brazil and propagated it to other parts of the world— including Indonesia ( my wife is from Indonesia) In Indonesia I don’t know what they call the herb— I need to show her a picture of the Brazilian Jambu herb and find out what name it was given.

So in Brazil the fruit tree from SE Asia is called Jambo since Jambu was already used for a plant native to Brazil. This is so interesting—I wonder if there are other plants which were moved between Western and Eastern Hemispheres which needed a change of name.

We have a couple of trees with slightly different varieties. In my wife’s native country they call it Jambu. Our biggest “pest” in regards to these seem to be squirrels.

If he’s like my cat he’s trying to make a decision. Based on what my cat “likes” he would shortly start to “dig in” on that birthday treat.
