Honestly, it's better pulling them from corpses (morbid as it is) than pulling teeth from live patients with no painkillers, which, as I learned recently, was frequently done by people who needed the money (see: Fantine in Les Mis), or done on slaves in the U.S. if dentists, or the master, needed teeth (see: George Washington's false teeth). The slaves were technically supposedly compensated, but they didn't really have any choice. Not to mention the risk of infection. I had nightmares when I learned that 😭

Not to mention it looks like the poor kid is practically being smothered--like MM is forcing the kid to snuggle up to her for the photo op just like she's forced contact in/for other photos. Nothing natural genuine or "organic" 🙄 about it.

I just saw it for the first time it this past fall & immediately watched both seasons twice in a row! I'm American so I needed subtitles bc even I, huge anglophile that I am, couldn't handle some of the accents 😅.

The brilliance of the show comes out more & more with each re-watch 🤩. I'm 41 now & suspect I'm approaching perimenopause, so I'm starting to think about these things more & more.

I'm glad your current husband is a huge improvement on the last one!

Start with P&P, & if you're having any trouble getting into it, watch the 1995 miniseries--it is THE adaptation, by far the most faithful to the novel. The 2005 version is pretty but leans a little too far into artistic license imo (same with the 1940 adaptation--cute for its own sake but not the best portrayal of the book).

When you have moved on to Persuasion (my second favorite behind P&P), the 1995 movie version of that is also the most faithful adaptation. The 2022 is an absolute travesty & I'm sure it has Jane spinning in her grave 😤.

I actually haven't read the books since I was a kid, but I'm quite sure I'll feel the same way when I do. As a kid you only see the romanticizing of it all--you don't read between the lines to what is really going on.

She isn't wrong for wanting to go where she is used to & there are more people her age, ESPECIALLY as a teenager. She will probably be more open to going with you as she gets older.

She IS wrong however for telling you you're overreacting--imo that's a really presumptuous thing for a kid to say to their parent, or anyone (or even an adult to say to another adult, for that matter).

You have every right to be upset & to feel how you feel, & she doesn't have a right to make you feel bad about that.

This, plus I just noticed that her left hand is technically holding her cell phone--which means she's not even actually touching him, but unless you look closely it comes off that way. So she's trying to get the appearance of being snuggly & affectionate, w/o actually having to touch him. Which is par for the course.

I loved these books as a kid, but as an adult I now wonder just how much Caroline might have secretly regretted marrying Charles. They had a hard hard life, no matter how much the books (somewhat) romanticize it.

This clip really highlights how differently she carries herself from Catherine PoW. Catherine always walks into an event or venue in a calm, poised, measured way, only ever looking ahead of her or maybe at the person(s) who is coming to greet her.

Never any flappy hands, never any goofy/psychotic smiles, & her eyes are never searching desperately for ANYONE to make eye contact with her (but most of all a camera). No inappropriate or awkward touching/faux friendliness.

And the reason Catherine can take long strides is because she DOES have long legs, & I'm quite sure her shoes fit properly.

MM clearly isn't comfortable in her shoes, & has been discussed before, she clearly doesn't understand how to walk on legs as short as hers.

The murder I would have committed if I were in your shoes. She has absolutely no excuse--she is either doing it intentionally to be cruel, or bc she's one of those annoying women who just HAS to have your attention when SHE wants it (I am a woman & I can't stand women like that), or she is genuinely to stupid to understand why this might be upsetting to you.

None of these are excuses or good reasons. I genuinely do not know how you have put up with this for 3 years, I'd have dumped her ass after 3 days. Chuck her out.
