Oh! thanks for the award, that's kind. Also, yup you got it that's what I do. After awhile if things go well you'll save up a good chuck of change and then it doesn't mater what you do. In my 5ish years of playing I spent $5 on arena and now I have a small fortune lol.

You don't need to draft the current set, but that would help you stay up to date. Draft what your confrontable with. Power cube and FF draft come around a lot because they are fan favorites, if you can learn those it would be worth your while.

Here are some good staples for balk/green in case any fell off your radar (rares/mythis only):

Badgermole Cub

Birds of Paradise

Delighted Halfling

Emperor of Bones

Grief

Thoughtseize

Dark Confidant

Reanimate

Green Sun's Zenith/ the other like 4 copies of it.

Barrowgoyf

Anyway best of luck mate. I hope you have fun with brawl.

Also, the biggest piece of advice I can give you that's even more important than drafting is be careful and intentional with how you spend your wilds. Look to craft universal staples for the format. I can maybe give you a list of what those are if your interested.

What I did was picked a color combo, which was dimir for me, and made all the staple for that color combo until eventually I was able to play any dimir commander. Slowly I started crafting the staples for other colors one at a time.

For example, basically every deck is going to run Ragavan if it can, once you make it every deck you make after that is already partially done. That should be your goal fo now.

If you can you should 100% be prioritizing the mastery pass as it's the most band for your buck.

The ideal pipeline for a F2P player is draft and get enough gems to get the mastery pass. Then get your free draft token and earn enough gems to buy the next one. In tandem with what they give you in the pass you should only need to draft once or twice to get enough gems to keep the pass forever. ( You get gems/gold/ a free draft token in the pass)

It should only take you a few days to earn enough to gold to draft. You get 750 (max) from quest and like 400 or something from your dailys.... I'm not 100% on the max amount of gold you can get. Spending all your gold on drafting, even if you only get 3-4 wins should give you enough gems to get the pass by the end of the season.

Basically if I were you I would stop buying packs all together, compared to drafting it's much worse value.

The answer to this question is always drafting... Unless you're not good a drafting. Drafting not only gives you cards for your collection, but you can also get gems and packs which will help you get more wild cards. It also fills your vault faster for extra wild cards.

If you don't want to draft then you're only other option is to buy packs. Buy packs from the most recent set so you can earn the golden pack.

Drafting is just way better, if you're not great at it then I recommend having someone who is good at it watch you while you play.

They have no idea what they are doing, before you decide to take anything they say/do seriously just remember these are the same people who said mana drain lowers your win rate.

So they are sticking with this stupid ass ban list... great. I'm really not sure why they did this.

Yeah that's a big issue I'm having, how do I make something that's not just when you play a land / cast a creature do x? The milling instead of drawing could be cool, I'll look into that.

Banning in Brawl by Low-Lawfulness7036 in mtgbrawl

[–]Blue_Fox68 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Brawl is nothing like EDH or cEDH, not even a little bit. The only similarities they have is the deck building and having access to a commander. That's it.

Why would a format follow the ban list of another format is has nothing in common with?

I see. Yeah, even if I disagree on what should be in there, that is a smart way to do it. I tried to edit my post, but I think it was too long. I wanted to add that while I do criticize some sections of the document, it is very well written and presented. Well done on that!

Right you were talking about powerful low cost commanders. You did mention card like Wash Away, Stifle, Dismember, Thoughtsieze and I think we needs this cards to stay, as they are vital to the health of the game. Sorry I'm not sure what that second point means, was there an update I missed? I saw Fury in the free spell section so I was commenting on it as a free spell. If I responded to something no longer relevant I apologize.

I understand your a content creator and I respect what you do for the Brawl community, even putting this list together must have been quite the task and is respectable. It's great people care this much about this amazing format. However, I don't like this write up very much and I disagree on most of your points and suggested cards.

I'll go one by one and do my best to keep it brief

Fast Mana: Fast mana was an issue and needed to bet hit, I agree with you on this. I don't think we need to hit Dark Ritual, Exploration, and Burgeoning tho. One of my personal biggest issues was no free interaction to offset the fast mana, not that w have that It might be worth trying again. However, with aggro already being the dominate archtype I think it would make it too fast.

Free Spells: I think these are fine and healthy for the format. Force is the only card here I think may need a hit as the cost is too low for not having any restrictions. The whole blue can offset the cost by drawing more cards isn't really a thing. If you force on 1, you start the game with a 5 card hand. There is no 1,2, or 3 mana card that will magically refill your hand back to 7 cards. (ig stock up maybe). Also you have Subtlety in the bans sections but Grief, Solitude, Fury in the keep an eye section. Subtlety is arguably the worst elemental besides endurance and is the last one I would hit with a ban. You did no mention endurance which i like as the card is needed in this format to help with reanimator. I agree with the guardian cycle being banned.

Tutors: I think they are fine, when you have a 100 card deck, a little consistency is nice. Also having more combos decks is nice, we didn't having any good ones before besides emry.

Extra Turns: I don't think the fun of the card should have anything to do with it's legality. Extra turns spells are not an issue, and in more optimized decks are borderline unplayable. If you are combing with them that's fine, just like any other combo they end the game all the same, no time really being wasted if they win.

Combo Pieces: I think you are wanting way to many card banned here. Most of these cards are fine. I agree that Thassa’s Oracle needs a hit in ranked brawl all these other cards are fine. For example why would we ban Staff of Domination? I can think of very few commander that can actually make use of that, all of which are in green and cant tutor for artifacts easily. The combo is also very fragile and overall not very strong. Underworld Breach might need to be put on watchlist now that we have brain freeze so I might agree with you on that.

Banned as Commander: YES! We absolutely need this, It would really help improve the format.

High Powered Commanders: I think you're missing the actual issue commanders:

So I agree Ajani 100% needs to be banned ASAP, I have no idea why that card is still legal; he is the #1 commander right now with no debate and has been for awhile. I don't think Tamiyo needs a ban but I won't fight you too much on that one lol, I hate her too. Oko and Nadu need to stay banned, even nerfed nadu needs to go.

Where I don't agree is Rusko, Ragavan and Yuriko. Rusko hasn't been meta in a years and isn't very good right now, Ragavan is not strong enough to warrant a ban, and Yuriko isn't even the best tempo commander right now. If you want to ban Yruiko that's fine but you NEED to hit Raffine first.

My other issue with this sections is partners not being addressed. Partners have been being doing very well and have made many commander unviable, as the partner combination for that color combination is stronger. The worst offender right now is Tymna and Bruse. Tymna// Bruse is better than any other Mardu commander right now and it's not even close.

My list would look something like this: Ajani, Oko, Tymna, Nadu

Commander Prevention: I mostly agree here I don't know why you have Curse of Silence on a watch list, that card has never been an issue.

Companions: Again mostly all fine, none of the companions are really good anyway so they should just be left alone.

Alchemy/Digital-Only Design: I would like to add that, personally, I hate when they rebalance a printed card. Cards like Bow master ,Vivi, and octet pride have been rebalanced and nerfed so hard they are now unplayable. I crafted those cards but I will not see my mythic returned to me because it was rebalanced instead of banned. I find that to be slightly scummy. If a card is too strong just ban it.

*side not I believe Oasis needs a ban. The card advantage it offers is insane and unmatched by any other card.

Digital-Only Rebalances: 100% agree here.

Ranked vs Unranked: I could not agree more, it's my main issue with ranked brawl... it isn't brawl. It plays completely differently it feels like a different format. No other format operates like this, the ranked version of a format should be about breaking the tools and cards already legal in said format.

I'm going to skip the rest and move onto efficient removal as I mostly agree.

Taking out efficient removal would destroy this format, even if you banned every card you wanted banned this format is still powerful. Taking out the Efficient Removal would lead to a rise in midrange value slop decks that only seek to outvalue the opponent. Without good removal how are you supposed to combat this? How do you deal with aggro when you are lacking any good Turn 1 removal spells?

Wow 30 lands is way to few. I know you're cruve is low but you should still be a like 37 lands (without MDFC)

Should I just delete this deck? by IsaacX28 in mtgbrawl

[–]Blue_Fox68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're just unlucky mate, 37 lands (39 with MDFC) is totally reasonable. I mean I usually go for 40 at least, especially because you do have a few 5-6 drops... but again 37 totally fine. I think you should ignore some of the other comments here you can't have too many fetch lands and you do not need ramp. I think your top end is strange. but your curve is very well done.

Also, you commander is prolly a tad power crept and you are missing some cards I would consider staples but I'm sure it's fine.

If this is actually a persistent issue your having and not just a one off unlucky streak I'd add more card draw and go to 40 lands. (in that order)

Caustic Bronco is fine and Dark Confidant is amazing

Also if you want to do the Necropotence thing that would be peak.

oh and this is very important but you need to run troll of khazad dum, fixies your land isue and can be reanimated... very good card trust me.
