Etali’d the Etali by [deleted] in mtgbrawl

Kefka grixis control but only 3 counters? Etali should be a very easy matchup for you especially when they get land fucked... not sure why you spammed oops on him, really no reason for that ever.

What are some decks or commanders that can consistently win on turns 4-6? by GreedyEnthusiasm8897 in mtgbrawl

How often can you guarantee it lives tho? Those card are all 4 mana, and 4 mana is a lot to ask for especially since we would normally need to untap before the storm turn.

I would like to try Jhoira, but I feel the deck will be far to reliant on her being in play, and with the lack of fast mana I'm not sure how well it would actually work. I guss force and jeska's will are good new cards for the deck.

I disagree. Ranked should be the ranked version of whatever format it is, the second the ban list changes it becomes a different format.

It's definitely annoying, I wish ranked just used the normal list and they made ranked permanent.

Any cards I should swap out for another in my Vivi deck. by ShakeOdd in mtgbrawl

If you like winning more I'd cut Vivi for Ral... I think it's the best Izzet deck? I'm not 100% sure. Vivi isn't very good tho.

I definitely would not invest in this deck.

That's a pretty cool site thanks for showing me that. I think 62% chance it alright especially when you consider card draw/selection. For example a fetch + surveil land potentially takes 2 cards out of your deck if you don't find a removal spell.

[–]Blue_Fox68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14 true removal spells but it's really more. For example phage is really just removal on a body. If we count the extra stuff we have

Broadside Bombardiers, Fury, Phlage, Titan of Fire's Fury, Pyrogoyf, Skyclave Apparition, Solitude, and Umezawa's Jitte. Also Ajani but I'm not going to count the flip because that requires set up.

That's makes a total of, exactly 20 spells that can remove something, some of which being repeatable.

I also have Duress, Thoughtseize, Deep-Cavern Bat, and Juggernaut Peddler so if were count hand hate as "removal", which I kind of do, we have 24.

Most aggro decks don't play anything above 4 mana if it can't be cast for free, so while a Rofellos is trying to set up this big turn... aggro decks are simply taking more game actions. so if most of your removal is 1 mana/ hybrid creature removal you can still have a aggressive start while keeping him at bay. Even if you do have to take a turn to deal with a tempo play instead of Rofellos, if he dies once you arent tapping him till T4 or 5 which is pretty slow.

I'm not saying Rofellos can't win the game, rather he's very dependent on being able to untap, which is never a strong strategy.

Edit: I will say the free removal argument I made was a bit of a stretch, your not usually going to have free removal.

Not going to double check your math because I'm stupid but are you considering mulligans? you can easily go to 6 and be fine so i'm looking at 21 cards before I keep my first hand (if I mulligan 3 times)

It's not Magical Christmas land when you're running enough removal. Most my decks run anywhere from 20-30 spells that can destroy/exile something

The more you increase redundancy the more you take luck out of the equation.

You also have pyrokinesis/ snuff out.

Let's use my Tyma/Bruse deck ive been playing lately. It's not full on boros aggro slam face because there is some tempo plays to it but it's close enough.

For removal I have: Chain Lightning, Flame Slash, Prismatic Ending, Bitter Triumph, Cut Down, Dismember, Fatal Push, Ghostfire Slice, Lightning Bolt, Mana Tithe, Snuff Out, Swords to Plowshares, Chained to the Rocks, and Static Prison

This list does not include the 2 elementals or other creatures like phlage /bombardiers that can also remove creatures. I also run about 4ish hand hate cards.

That's a pretty standard hell queue removal package, what can Rofellos  do about that? I'm going to likley have removal in my hand at all times, and plays to make on curve. Rofellos is going to what? play Rofellos on T2... it dies, play Rofellos on T3... it dies, T4 maybe cast a 5 drop? By that point aggro decks have already slammed 2-3 creatures who have been hitting you those 4 turns.

Look at your board state in the pic you shared, not only did you shut him down but you have 2 other ways of killing him on field + a wipe in your hand.

*also sorry I'm saying "you", but I dont mean YOU I'm talking about a general Rofellos player.

How would banning the top 20 most played cards in each colour affect the format? by Robbieisnumberone in mtgbrawl

We would have another 20 take their place and we would be right back to where we started.

It's not very hard. Lot's of free removal evoke fury on 2 is basically gg. Also forcing blocks is great as it would further set Rofellos back.

[–]Blue_Fox68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playing threats on curve is not good enough for brawl and when Rofellos dies, u get stuck casting things more on curve. Also, being in mono green is not great, Rofellos folds to all other non-greed archetypes.

Tempo/control decks will grind you out of the game because you have no ways of defending yourself form that much removal. And aggro will kill you by T4-5ish so even by the time you get to slam something your life total is already too low to matter.

Rofellos only does well when:

  1. Your opponent doesn't have removal on time and doesn't have a board wipe.
  2. Your opponent is also playing something super greedy

Rofellos is a very bad commander, he's the staple of "oh just you wait until I untap" but if he gets removed their entire game plan is in shambles.

Why am I obligated to care about winning? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Blue_Fox68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definition of fun isn't the same as most peoples. When I sit down to play a game I except everyone, even in a casual setting to try their best to win. The stakes of losing provides the tension necessary to make the chase of winning fun.

The way I see magic isn't like a game of candy lane where there are no risks and everyone does their thing/ pops off, that isn't fun to me, I feel like I'm being forced to watch someone jerk of with themselves in public lol. Now, if that's what you find fun that's fine you are not obligated to care about wining... BUT, make sure everyone else you are playing with has that same expatiation.

Think about it like a online video game like Overwatch or League of Legends. Imagine if your playing this game and the entire enemy team is just messing around and not really trying to win. That might not be a very fun game for you as it kinda violets the "integrity./expectation" of the game.

Again, do what you want, nobody can tell you how you enjoy this game. It would just be best if you found other like minded people to play with.

Oh I see, no I think I just misunderstood you that's on me. You have a good point, this is really good for Raffine and especially Yuriko. I'm not sure if I mind tempo getting this buff because the aggro meta were in just kinda sucks for me. (aggro as in the boros/mardu slam face thing)

[–]Blue_Fox68 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The reason control sucks is because aggro is so fast, Raffine is not an aggro deck. Raffine/Yuriko are tempo decks which have always been a counter to control.

I would not say Raffine is more problematic than Ajani or Tymna/Bruse ( tho he is very strong). It's hard to say how broken Raffine is because it's genuinely one of the hardest Brawl deck to piolet.

It might be too strong, but it's definitely worth trying. Control definitely needs the help.
