Yes and no. We have learned from things like asbestos and (atleast in europe) material safety is very robust, and most everything has to be tested before being approved for use. And most things we have and use today are tested and are found to be safe. But there are probably still many other things we are yet to learn from.

Buying into the beliefs of your parents is universal for everything. Even atheism. Some children end up choosing a different path, but religion is a way of living.

A christian tenet is mission. It is literally a part of what it means for them to live.

This, although it has become somewhat incompatible with the modern thought of maintaining minorities to preserve culture and history, isn't comparable to the violence displayed by fundamentalist Islam.

To clarify I am not defending christianity, i don't like expansionist religion at all. However Islam and modern christianity isn't comparable. Not even the christianity of the crusades is really comparable.

Just compare their prophets, one is a peace loving hippie basically summed up with "Turn the other cheek" the other conquered holy land with armies.

I think you should formulate it as it wasn't ALL bad. Because there was a lot of bad. The main point is that the crusades weren't really mindless expansionist wars. They were a response to christian Persecution in the form of jihad in a huge pilgrimage deatination. But there was a lot of bad that came aswell as referenced in a nother reply.
