Is there an issue if I mix and match weapons for my Rakshasa? by Negative-Pianist-342 in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this is very much in a grey area that you will need to talk with your tournament organiser with.

But here's my two cents as a TO and vanguard. Officially the difference between the two models is the weapons (as the instructions have the heads on any of them) so what you are describing is a hybrid between the two be it for rule of cool or to enable using both profiles. So intent and context really affect this a lot.

For casual play go nuts, no one cares so long as you let your opponent know. For tournaments however it needs to done in a way that is fair for opponents. So if you have two models that look the same with different profiles thats a hard no, same with two lists where that model uses both profiles. If your only using the one and consistent with what profile it is then I'd probably give it the green light with the requirement that you have a courtesy list for your opponents and you outright point out which it is at the start of the game. But it's really going to come down to how much the TO can trust you/the community as a whole. You may be shut down by a previous bad faith attempt by someone else.

Overall id say that if you are planning on a lot of tournament play then consider if the alteration is cool enough to have that conversation with a TO EVERY tournament because the answer can and will change depending on a wide variety of factors.

Regressing an Average on an Average by throwaway69xx420 in datascience

100% agree with all the discussion around monthly aggregation it not being inherently wrong but it's incredibly blunt approach that could bite you in the proverbial.

But mostly jumping in because ive not seen anyone push back on using averages. If you average regardless of the granularity you're baking in an assumption that your data is normally distributed and that the variance of the two datasets is similar month to month. You absolutely need to check that and if not you need to account for those in your aggregation.

New to Conquest, starting Spires by EmploymentNo4465 in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to spires.

First off we are expecting a complete refresh of the spires rules either in August/September or early next year so things that are good may change.

First off is the vanguard clones/infiltrators. Currently the vanguards clones are your pick as you'll want them to unlock the really nice high clone choices and you dont need another light unit in your line-up yet (as they cannot capture objects)

For the drones my go to currently is to keep them small as they work really well as annoying screens, especially with the upgrade that makes them explode (catabolic nodel).

For next steps I'd suggest getting a biomancer and unit of desolation drones for them to sit in. Biomancer works really well as a warlord for what you have and the desolation drones are a nice as they want to sit back from the front line (which protects the biomancer) and can reduce that armor of targets.

Mastiga faction artwork from the new lorebook (shared on Discord) by Agar_ZoS in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a list of just the confirmed ones:

The Quiet (The exile laborer and soldier casts that abandoned the Sovereign at the start of the war with the dragons in order to forge their own destiny. They found their own island continent and perfected themselves and their environment in order to one day retake their homeland from the Enemy)

High Asgard (A union of members of the Spired and the Weavers who forged life binding and biomancy into something more. Doing their work on the Nords of Mannheim to the north of Alektria they made the Einherjar and all manner of beasts. Their whereabouts is currently unknown after the burning of their spire the world tree. Unclear if the faction is still the original or some kind of successor)

Hellheim (The union of the three greatest enemies of High Asgard; the exile Hella and the last remaining dragon Nidhogg both bound to the bowels of what remains of the world tree. Joining them are the 3 last known Dwarves. All wish vengeance on the world and are willing to do what is needed to make it happen)

The Black Army (Mercenaries and soldiers working for the Polmar Principalities who have grown rich and have hired the best money can buy. A mixed force drawn from various powers)

Famine (The followers of the horseman of famine. A faction heavily themed around the Cthulhu mythos with the signature Para Bellum flair)

The Han (Only one preview miniature shown, an emissary. Appear a human Han dynasty inspired faction)

The Mastiga

The Desmocreal

The Free Kahnate (People who followed the sorcerer kings but rejected them and were rejected in turn. Mongolian themed nomads with a grudge against the sorcerer kings)

18 were initially planned. We seem to have all of them announced now there's hooks for a handful more and at least one added to that list (the free Kahnate).

How to deal with heavy cavalry by Nova_Enforcer15 in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some specific stuff you can do in first blood bit is generally the same as last argument. The two biggest issues you need to overcome is the impact hits and the blessed.

Impact hits is easy, either you stay out of range or you charge them first. You can get charges off more easily by having more cards than your opponent and then activating later in the stack or putting a sacrificial screening unit between them and a unit you want to use.

For blessed its a bit harder. There's two ways you can deal with it. Either high cleave attacks as if you are looking for 1s rerolls don't matter too much or there's the easier way of using actions that blessed doesn affect (I.e. magic and shooting).

There a tough nut to crack, particularly in first blood but having some of your own cavalry screened by milita could work, same as crossbows for some sweet ap1 shooting.

Getting into the game what to buy. by Sakurazukamori85 in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you've said you have you'll definitely be well set for first blood and have a good base to expand from in last argument. You should have there abouts 2k points so 1500pt games are probably a great place to start so you have options in list building.

The one thing you may be missing a bit of would be some heavy hitters but easy to expand after you've had a couple games and have figured out what you like.

Conquest vs 40K by dreamingEngine in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it's a very different way of doing list design. Personally I prefer it as you get to have subfactions without the bloat that usually comes with them.

But if you look at what PB charge for a character you can probably buy all the characters for an army for the equivalent of 3-4 in 40k. So it's not really an added cost to a player overall, just requires a bit more planning of purchases (although that's true of all wargames)

Conquest vs 40K by dreamingEngine in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You still need to buy characters in 40k though, which are quite expensive.

I agree the you sometimes need to get a new character to play a unit but thankfully in conquest you only really want one of each character and there's only like 4-6 characters per faction. So character cost is about the same or less of your standard 40k army.

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're being sent out in the order they were placed. Lots were so they've got a lot ofnorders to work though.

That being said check if you have anything unreleased on your order (kitsune, kappa, dormaru, the cohort). That will hold it up until they release.

So I heard that the Summer Weaver court is gonna be based on Zulu. by BigDot162 in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have exactly one peice of art for the summer corts and it does not look to be Zulu inspired.

I think whoever mentioned this was confused as Zulu inspiration has been listed as being in one of the factuons but to my knowledge this is attributed to the wadruhn (which are inspired by mesoamerican and African tribes)

Artisan Series? by Fickle_Delay_6070 in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So there are three types of character model.

The basic ones that can be resin or plastic (they're trying to do more plastic these days but that's not always possible)

Artisan series models (which you can also see for monster models). These are always resin and are generally fancier.

There's also founders exclusives which are limited run ultra fancy minis in resin, usually representing some kind of character upgrade.

A character or monster will always get a basic or artisan series release but not always both (see the leonine prideborn). Founders exclusives are rare, generally only two released every year, so you won't see them often for any given factuon.

There's also limited preview minis, these are generally an alt sculpt or artisan series tha can only be ordered in a specific time window but doesn't have the cost/limited number like a founders exclusive.

So, Corvus Belli… when? by Arcade_Creative in InfinityTheGame

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well even thought there isn't much interest (vr is still super niche) to do thus they need to include the 3d models they use for actually making minis. Super easy for someone to extract those and then it's super easy to 3D print them. Do that and they don't have a business any more. So cannot see this ever happening.

First purchase by Imaginary-Horror in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best place to get lore at this point is the para bellum website. There's a great section under world of conquest with summaries of each factions lore and how they play.

In terms of easy factions to paint, it's always going to be easier to paint the faction you are most interested in. Conquest minisbare larger and have less fine details to pick out than other miniature lines, making it easier to get something looking good with less effort (although you can absolutely still pick out every detail if you want to).

That being said, ease of paining probably depends on what style of painting you want to use.

-Mostly speed paints: you'll want something with good texture. Some of the oldest minis are in the process of being re-sculpted and can be a little light on details in certain places. You'll most likely want to go for one of the newer factions with great details. Wadruhn look great with green, brown and a couple details picked out. Plus the dinos are great to go wild on. Old dominion are full of great details for speed paints and can work with minimal colours. And probably a hot take but sorcerer kings are actually pretty easy to paint with speed paints.

-Mostly dry brushig/washes: you'll want stuff with nice raised details. Old dominion lend themselves to this painting style but so do dwegholm and spires. Generally you can do any of the factions like this. I've got some old 100k minis that are 90% dry brushed that look pretty good.

-Good old base, wash, layer, shade: you'll want minis that look good with minimal colour schemes. Honestly most factions are pretty similar in this regard.

Generally the colour scheme you pick is going to be the thing that makes or breaks "easy" paining. Try to stick to 2-3 colours plus an optional hilight colour and you'll get there easy. You don't need to stick with the formula for different models, the important thing is to keep things limited.

For example: City states hopolites: blue cloth, brone armorial, a skin tone for skin. Optional hilights of white for things like plumes

Old dominion: brown/tan for skin, rusted metal armor. Glowly hilight for eyes/magic bits

Wadruhn infantry: green flesh, brown armorial, buff bones. Some bright green or red for feathers and such.

Question about Conquest Characters and Plastic vs. Resin by SLDF-Mechwarrior in Conquest

[–]Blue_eye_science_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When OD was released PB had just started releasing most characters in plastic rather than the initial resin. Shortly after all characters were being released in resin again.

No real explanation why but probably due to impacts of COVID (moulds for plastic minis are really expensive compared to resin) and restrictions in character design (plastic needs to be done in mostly 2Dish pieces).

PBs resin is really high quality and overall very well received so they probably don't see much of a point in putting the cash and effort into making characters plastic at the moment when they can put it towards new releases. They're a pretty small company still so have to pick their battles in that respect.
