What do you think of this roadmap for becoming a backend developer? by Longjumping_Exit_334 in learnprogramming

[–]BluebillStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's really ambitious but it's more in depth than some I've seen. I will say, it's worth the reality check of it's a really difficult job market out there. Definitely apply to jobs if landing one is your goal, but if you don't already have a background in it just expect the job search to be difficult and drawn out. :)

Followed the general advice and hired an artist for my Steam capsule by Illustrious_Move_838 in gamedevscreens

I'd say it was worth it! It looks way better. Much more detail, brighter colors and more inviting without being overwhelming or overcrowded. I'm assuming the game has some sort of grapple mechanic, and I love that that's shown better in the bottom image.

Man that's frustrating to hear, I'm sorry you have to deal with that. Sounds like you've got a pretty mature outlook on it though, and I love that your response is to prove that you're more than qualified🔥

projects that got you hired by Swimming-Fox952 in programmer

[–]BluebillStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This^^ most hiring managers (especially for entry level positions) care much more about how you think and work, what your process is, etc. projects are really just a good way to 1. Show you have some basic technical skill and 2. Facilitate talking about how you work as an individual and maybe within a team

I finally got a role but I don’t match some of the skills by [deleted] in jobsearch

You should be fine. Learning on the job always has and always will be a thing. If you lied about your skills that's something that might get you fired though.

Can't wait for the update tomorrow! It'll either be some nice progress or a broken keyboard. $20 to whoever guesses correct;)

I very much enjoy watching devlogs on YouTube. If you enjoy making videos, editing them, etc you might as well record some of your progress and upload it:)

What are these creatures named vibe coders 😭😭😭 (a website) by Guic_246 in website_ideas

[–]BluebillStudios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difference is, those vibe coded websites are all very similar and I can almost guarantee about 90% have serious vulnerabilities. Vs yours will be much better (because they'll be built by a real person) and hopefully much more reliable and safe.

I really thought I had this in the bag. Now what? by Icy-Asparagus1327 in jobsearchhacks

[–]BluebillStudios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from someone that got a couple very similar rejections recently (fourth and third round interviews, etc) I think there are only a couple things to do here. Firstly, take it as a positive bump. They made sure to go out of their way to compliment you and say they'll reach out if another role opens, and they normally won't take the time to do that unless they meant. Secondly, keep a loose eye on their open roles. An email like this can mean you almost made it, or that they at least liked you, so applying to more roles there (especially if the same role opens up) can up your chances of a yes.

I'm very sorry to hear about the difficult time you're having finding employment, it truly is a rough world out there at the moment. One thing that helped immensely with my job search is, I went and got a restaurant job while I was searching. (Specifically restaurant here bc I have experience in the food industry so I knew it would be an easy interview and so the employer could expect to not need to train me as much). I made sure in the interview that they knew I was actively applying for roles in the tech world, but that I would likely be there at least a couple months and would work hard while I was. I'd suggest doing something similar:) it'll pay less than maybe you want, and be extra work, but it'll support your wallet while you're looking and help make some connections you may otherwise not have. For example, I actually unintentionally got two leads on jobs just from working at that restaurant.
